Creating a personal web page

Hi,

The information I read instructs me to go to the toolbar and click on "create page" except I can't find that toolbar.  How do I navigate to the toolbar to start the page creation?

Thanks

Mike

Re: Creating a personal web page

Comcast doesn't really support the personal web pages. But you can play with them. They might go away at any time.

You need to enable the feature under My Account.

After you do that, go to https://publish.comcast.net/home/index/ to get started. You may have to click Get Started even after your pages already exist.

Your page will be at http://home.comcast.net/~username where the is a tilde (~) in front of your username and there is no @comcast.net.

Re: Creating a personal web page

does not seem to find the link to create a web page..why Comcast hides all the information while the service is free to customer.  I talked to 3 representatives..none of them seems to know where and how to create a web page....sad.

Re: Creating a personal web page

Read the first sentence in Beth's post above yours.  Comcast does not really support the PWP.  They haven't upgraded the tool in years.  They could take this service down at any time without notification.

Beth's post also gives you the link to find the PWP, but again the tools are pretty basic and really not that hard to figure out.  As far as support goes, this is probably the best place you''ll find any answers.  And FWIW, this is only a customer-to-customer help forum.

Re: Creating a personal web page

I have had a personal web page since before I had comcast even.  I started my pages back when I had bellsouth fastaccess internet, and was able to move them over to my personal webpages on comcast via ftp, which is the way I have always worked on my site.  I find the built-in tools that comcast does provide to be powerful, but limiting in the formats and styles of the pages.

I suggest that anyone wishing to create their own pages do so with software on their own pc, then upload it via ftp.

Keep in mind that MS Office includes the ability to save documents as web pages (very larges files, though) and you can even upload them using an internet place via Internet Explorer, which lets you drag and drop files, etc.

FWIW, doing this makes it possible to always have a copy of your site should Comcast ever drop the personal pages, and you wish to put your pages elsewhere.

Re: Creating a personal web page

I agree with musicbilly that you can use tools other than Comcast's to build your pages. Upload them to upload.comcast.net being sure to include all the supporting files. You can use Windows Explorer or an FTP program or the upload facility of the tool you are using to build your pages.

Realize that  the server is case sensitive. That means SafeHarborMap.jpg is not the same as safeharborMAP.Jpg. Also, be careful using spaces and unusual punctuation symbols.

You cannot use server side scripting. If some program with executable permissions needs to be installed on the server to makes your pages work, don't do it. FrontPage extensions are installed but FrontPage isn't supported anymore.

Be sure to keep a backup of your web site on your home machine. Comcast could decide to drop personal web pages at any time.
