FTP uploads not working

When I upload files ( in this case a VSD (visio) and PDF ),  the files upload successfully but the server sets them to 0 bytes length.     The files are truly empty, but I have no idea why this is failing.

I have used FireFTP,  IE FTP from the browser, and even Windows Explorer FTP and all do the same thing.   They upload successfully and then the server just sets them to 0 length files.   I have been doing this for years so I dont think the problem is the way I do it  (i.e. passive mode uploads ).

The file sizes are 5 meg and 15 meg.    Any ideas on why this is hapening ?

I saw that post prior to posting here.

It is not a permissions problem - the files being uploaded are new, not being replaced.   Thanks for responding though! :smileyhappy:

I think there is either something wrong with my account or the ftp server software has changed.

Re: FTP uploads not working

Is it still not working? I can upload a file with FTP (in my case CyberDuck).

How many files are in the folder you are trying to upload to? One of the FTP programs and Comcast's system were having trouble when there were a large number of files in the directory on the server.

This may seem to be an odd question, but is your router's firmware up-to-date?

What I would try to help isolate the problem is to upload a file to a new directory. I'd also try connecting without your router.

It is a brand new folder off of the root folder - there are no other files in the folder.

The folder's permissions are set to allow full control for me, and read access to everyone else.

I dont see it being a router problem,  I have been ftp'ing for years without incident.    The files are being created, the files appear to be getting sent to the directory,  FTP is successful - and there are 0 bytes in the files.

It almost looks like something on the server side is scrubbing them - like some antivirus or something.

FWIW:  I uploaded a 100mb IMG file 2 weeks ago - no problem then.

More Information:

       TYPE A

       PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (216,87,188,9,146,50)
       LIST -al
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
226 Transfer complete.
       NOOP
200 NOOP command successful.
       PASV

       LIST -al
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
226 Transfer complete.
       NOOP
200 NOOP command successful.
The 1st time after uploading, the LIST command reports the proper size - after that it reports 0 bytes length.

Re: FTP uploads not working

Well,  I found out why it is not working.

After googling for about 20 minutes trying to find the link for publish.comcast.net I discovered that I used up my 1 GB of storage.

The limit is fine, I can manage that - but the error handling leaves a lot to be desired.

The worst thing is trying to find a link to the personal web page manager - what a nightmare.   Thanks to all who tried to help.

How many email addresses do you have left?  Each Comcast email address gets 1 GB of PWP.  You just have to spread your links across the the email/PWP pages.

Re: FTP uploads not working

I agree that the error messages leave a lot to be desired.

For the router, there was a time when Comcast made a subtle change to their server, and I had very similar FTP problem symptoms to yours. It turns out that I needed to update the firmware in my router which had been working fine for years.

For anyone looking, the PWP tool link is https://publish.comcast.net/home/index/ but not all web browsers will display how much space you are using.

Re: FTP uploads not working

There is so much to be desired with all of Comcast online services' operations, management and configuration. My complaints are too numberous to mention. Your experience with your PWP uploads is just representative of many other problems. Comcast is supposed to be a business but yet the experience is like that of a high school computer project.

Re: FTP uploads not working

Same thing happens to me, except my file transfers don't say they've completed. The connection times out. However, the files which I attempted to upload or overwrite become 0 KB, and I have plenty of space left in my storage.
