Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a way to use my own page, "index" as my home page?
I really would rather not use use the comcast format for any of my pages if I dont have to.
Thanks
Susan

I probably should mention that I successfully transferred my entire web site via WS_FTP to comcast.
I am just stuck on how to publish it using my format and not theirs
Thanks

It's not really clear what you're asking.
You can use anything to author your webpages and upload them to your PWP, but you will have the URL as http://home.comcast.net/~yourusername . If your first page is index.html then the page will load using the format above. You can't use any server side scripting because Comcast doesn't support it. And case matters. Index.html or index.HTML is not the same as index.html.
I see your "old" page, however.

Like Again said your main page must be named index.html or index.htm to overide the /site/ page you created with the comcast PWP tools.
However if your index page is in a subfolder it will not override the comcast created page. It must be in the uppermost (root) directory for your account.

The Comcast web server is case sensitive. So index.html (which is an acceptable name for your main page) is not the same as Index.html (which does not work as a home page). I tried the capitalized versions, and they didn't work either.
So I agree with lead5alpha that you probably uploaded into a subdirectory.
Depending on how many folders you used and what your content is, it may be easiest to delete what you uploaded and upload it again.

how do I get it into the uppermost directory.
Right now it is in a subdirectory within the rest of my web page?
Thank you so much for your help!!!

Hi...thanks guysI uploaded the index file separately and that seems to have worked for my homepage.
But now not a single link works.
Do I have to reassign each link, file and picture?

and how would I do that if they arent listed as pages for me to edit?
I am so lost and I appreciate any help, truly I do!!!

Forget about the Comcast page building tools. Don't use them. If you modify any pages there, the system will rename your index.html page so that it has a time stamp in the middle of the filename. That tool sues a Comcast-specific storage system. The pages there are not regular HTML files.
You can look at your file names in the File Manager:
https://publish.comcast.net/filemanager/files/all/
However, I suggest removing all the files on the web server and uploading again so that your index.html is at the top along with the other files that you expect to have at the same level as the index.html file.

One cause could be the supporting folders and pages are in the wrong location and you get a page not found message. Or they have not been uploaded.
The source code for your page shows that you used MSWord to author the pages. For each page you author Word creates a supporting folder with all of the images etc that need to be uploaded. For a page named Transcripts.htm there will be a folder named Transcripts_files Transcripts.htm needs to be in the root directory and its supporting folder needs to also be uploaded into the root directory.
Another possible cause is that the link in the html code and the image or daughter page do not match by case. For example 64Impala.JPG is not the same file as 64impala.jpg. The comcast server is case sensitive.
You won't edit your pages as Beth has already indicated with the comcast editor. You will edit them in MSWord on your workstation and then upload by ftp the changed pages.

thank you everyone for your help!!!
I was transferring the files within the folder I had saved them on my desktop.
Once I transferred everything individually all the links worked, with a few exceptions.
Now I just have to make changes and corrections to those pages.
Thanks again!!!

Glad you got it working. Good luck with your educational career. You have some interesting projects for teaching social studies. I happen to have taught 6th grade for 20 years including 2 sections of world history.
