vanity URL issue

It doesn't appear that vanity URL's are re-directed properly. What gives? I have a base index page with my base href listed so I could use username.attbi.com/whatever. Now that goes nowhere. How can I get the redirect to work from my old URL to the new one without breaking it???

Re: vanity URL issue

I guess noone of my friends has the ugly URL but only the vanity URL. Why bother?! -- they only will not be able to ever find the new location. :-/
I call this really bad service.

BTW, copied from: http://online.comcast.net/faqs/faq-detail.asp?intFaqID=55&intSubCategoryID=170 :
Vanity URLs in the format http://username.home.attbi.com, will not automatically forward and to use vanity URLs on comcast.net your index.html file will have to be manually edited with new HTML code for the new base reference. Instructions are available at http://home.comcast.net/pwpaddresses.html#vanityurl.

Re: vanity URL issue

Thanks for the info.

I would think that if Comcast really wanted people to use the PWP then they should have worked harder at a complete transition strategy. Instead, my URL is broken and I have to email people (if I know their email) to let them know about it. Does that sound like a good strategy?

Hey Comcast! Marketing needs to talk with your IT folks (all the time, not just once) and make sure you can do what you claim you can. Pretty basic.

Re: vanity URL issue

Folks,

I just got off the online chat line with Comcast support. It seems like these issues are reported one at a time. I encourage everyone to submit complaints so that they see that this is affecting a lot of customers.

Re: vanity URL issue

Thanks for the info. Wish I would have found that when it was posted.

Tried the online chat last night for several hours... and never got in. The number of requests before me kept changing down and then back up. Isn't it first come first serve? Computers are supposed to be pretty good at counting.

Don't you love the first emails from Comcast?

Here's one of them:

"As the new company serving your Internet needs, we know we'll have to work hard to prove to you we are unlike any cable company you've ever had....

Since 1963, Comcast has been proving just that to the people we serve all across the country. We've done it by focusing on one principle: commitment.

·Commitment to new products
·Commitment to better service
·Commitment to connecting our customers to more of the things they love most."

!!!!!!!!!Looks good so far!!!!!!!! huh?

Really, I don't want to beat up Comcast too bad, I'm sure they have been pretty slammed with such a huge undertaking. Should cut them some slack even though I never had an email returned... ever.

I love the broadband service and still think it's a pretty good deal for the speed and in my opinion, better than the alternatives.

But it's just a shame that the whole country pretty much has completely abandoned customer service and satisfaction... it's the new way. If you don't like it leave it attitude. If I had that in my business, I would be out of business pretty darn quick.

Re: vanity URL issue

I have been dealing with this issue since AT&T switched over to Comcast...they are doing NOTHING about it.

According to Customer Service

"PWP are not supported by Comcast because it is a 'extra' that comes with the Cable line. We will not make refunds or rush complaints submitted that deal with PWP...blah, blah, blah"

Face it...no matter how much we complain, moan and groan, Comcast is not going to do anything about it...because it's a "perk" and they are still getting your money.

Funny thing is...it's a simple redirect fix at the server level. One line that would solve all these problems. But they won't do it...

Take a look at all these complaints:

Doesn't look like they really care...
