Can't remove Comcast Antispy - Fix found post What Is Comcast Antispy.exe dtd 8/29/11

[ Edited ]

I am running Windows xp, SP3, and have removed the comcast toolbar, along with the CA program.  Comcast antispy keeps running though, and I don't know how to remove it.  Can someone help?

I get the error message "access violation at ......" as other have posted at shutdown, and the process shows as running in my windows task manager.

Thank you.

ETA:  See edited heading for solution that worked for me.

Summarizing....went to c:\windows\comcasttb and found the antispy folder and ran the uninstall from there.  Thank you.

Re: comcastantispy.exe errror on logoff

I am having this problem too.  I do not have the toolbar installed, nor any CA programs left to remove via "add/remove".  I keep getting this error message upon shutdown, and this is also showing up in running processes as ComcastAntiSpy.exe and ComcastAntiSpyService.exe.  Please help me remove this!  Thank you.

Re: comcastantispy.exe errror on logoff

I'm getting a similar problem. I uninstalled the toolbar and have nothing left on my computer related to comcast antispy that I can see. Still, it runs and continues to open up new tcp connections. I'm up to 50 right now.  What is this and how do I stop it? Standard methods mentioned in earlier posts have been tried and do not work. I downloaded directly from the comcast website and some sites have suggested that this is a virus.  Any help is appreciated.

@ Jason_McCreary

If you, at any time, installed the Comcast toolbar, CA Pest Patrol Real Time Protection came with it.

If you had the toolbar and uninstalled it, Real Time Protection remains.

You can uninstall the CA Real Time component via add/remove programs (Programs and Features).

This still does not solve the problem. I used revo unistaller also. Comcastantispyservice.exe will load everytime windows loads regardless of what actions I used. I uninstalled everything! This process doesn't show up in the add/remove programs page.

If it is listed on startup tab of msconfig, uncheck it!

Re: comcastantispy.exe errror on logoff

I had the same problem. The tool bar and toos were removed using Add/Remove. I also found the installation site and removed from the C: drive. However, my system drive for the XP installation under which I installed was drive F:. The tool bar was installed on BOTH drive C: and drive F: I used the uninstall executable found in "F:\Program Files\comcasttb\" to perform the second uninstal.

To find the installation location, bring up Run from the Start menu and type msconfig. Go the the Startup tab and look for the ComcastAntispy entry. Under the entry, the "X:\zzz\comcasttb" portion of the path shows the location for the uninstall program where X is the drive letter and zzz is a directory name.

Thanks for the post and the instructions for finding the uninstall file.

Re: comcastantispy.exe errror on logoff

Oftentimes the easiest fix is to (re)install the toolbar and then uninstall the toolbar.

Upon rebooting Comcastantispy should be removed completely.

Note that occasionally if you encounter an error during the install, you may have to repeat the steps one more time.

ComcastAntispy.exe is an antispy ware program that's installed with the Comcast Toolbar. Do you have the Comcast Toolbar installed?

Comcast Antispyware

Ditto same problem, removed from Control Panel, however still remains, and hoggs up 50% of memory, not allowing other programs to run.

How can it be removed completely

Go to Windows Task Manager and select the "Processes" tab.  Scroll down for the Comcast Antispy.  Select it when found.  Then choose the "End Process" button.  Only then can you terminate Comcast Antispy.  Go to the Program "C" list and now when you select Comcast Antispy, you'll find an UNINSTALL Comcast Antispy.  Obviously, select Uninstall, and poof:  all parts of this program disappear from your computer.  Other fixes offered did not work on my computer.  This one totally eradicated the problem.

Re: comcastantispy.exe errror on logoff

I have seen this on my Windows XP PC.

I resolved this CA (Computer Associates) problem by going into the registry (Start->Run-> then type regedit) and and search for antispy.

I found two locations.

The first I did not document but it had something to do to do with CA.

The second was HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run where it pointed to  C:\Program Files\comcasttb\ComcastSpywareScan\ComcastAntispy.exe the source of the problem.

I also ran the uninstall in C:\Program Files\comcasttb\ComcastSpywareScan and then deleted the folder comcasttb in C:\Program Files.

I have rebooted the PC several times since and have not seen the problem.

Good luck to you all.

Re: comcastantispy.exe errror on logoff

Are these fixes and the one in other thread mentioned for XP only, having issue with it but on Win7. Was going to try and fix today, not sure which one I should be trying. Toolbar was installed during a reinstalation of Nortons and DNS changer bot problem. Constant guard to. If someone has best solution for Win 7, much appreciated. On a severe time limit dealing with all of these issues and family health problems.

Thank you for any advise

Essentially, yes. The only difference will be if you have a 64bit processor. Then the folder to check will be Program Files  (x86)

Re: Can't remove Comcast Antispy - Fix found post What Is Comcast Antispy.exe dtd 8/2

I'm trying to resolve this, my pc is lagging, and I'm getting the comcastspy pop up when my pc is trying to shut down.

I did have norton from comcast, but uninstalled it. I use Firefox, but when I opened IE to uninstall the toolbar, the toolbar section is black, and I can't see the tool for the drop down menu.

I tried going into control panel and remove, but it is not there.

What else can I do?

Re: Can't remove Comcast Antispy - Fix found post What Is Comcast Antispy.exe dtd 8/2

First, you need to use the software Add/Remove to try and remove the Comcast Antispy program. If you have already done that or you cannot find an entry in the installed program list, you will need to use the process I provided 2011/11/23.

Hope this works. Please post the results.

Re: Can't remove Comcast Antispy - Fix found post What Is Comcast Antispy.exe dtd 8/2

You can only locate it in c drive

Depending on system it under Programs or Programsx86

Folder name comcasttb

Open it and comcast anti-spyware should be inside

Open foler and there is an uninstall option. If it's not there you can uninstall manually by deleting.

Reboot and should be gone.

Also double check add/remove of computer for any toolbar named comcast or xfinity. Uninstall if there is any

Reboot and should fix all problems

Re: Can't remove Comcast Antispy - Fix found post What Is Comcast Antispy.exe dtd 8/2

Glad to help

Based on other posts, may want to consider removing Constany Guard Protection Suite and components of of it. It speeds up computer and leaves only nortons. There are plenty of posts here explaining how.

Don't have to but something to consider, many people have problems with the components as well

(Also: You have option to check which solution worked or refer to the post number to help others out if you began the thread- it can people find the best solution quickly :smileyhappy: )

Re: Can't remove Comcast Antispy - Fix found post What Is Comcast Antispy.exe dtd 8/2

The first thing you do is dump Constant Guard.  The program is a pain in the neck slows down your puter and the cpu usage is ridiculous.  Get rid of the Xfinity toolbar. then delete constant guard (you will still have norton antivirus) which is sufficient.  Unless you've got millions in the bank then the program is a pain.  If you still get Comcast antispy exe on shutdown then go to run type in msconfig find the comcastantispy and uncheck it and constantguard.  It worked for me.  My computer speeded up and I dont have to hit end program for IDVault or anything else and antispy error is gone. ya hoo!!!!  Good luck
