I have no idea if CGPS is compatable with Windows 8 - especially since it does not appear to be totally compatable with Win 7, Vista or XP.  Have a look around the forum.

Here is the latest word from Norton on the Windows 8 and Norton products (please note NSS & N360 are the same basic programs):

Windows 8 is still in beta. You will not find any major AV/AS program officially supported for Windows 8. Some will work, others will not. Basically, you're on your own.

You might want to try Microsoft Security Essentials.

I wouldn't touch Constant Guard, however my experience with the current Comcast Norton is that it does work very well with windows 8. No problems whatsoever as yet.... Course there are no guarantees, but that's the fun of trying things out!

Re: Constant Guard and windows 8

Constant Guard is compatible with Windows 8 RTM ( release to manufacturing ) except for the keylogging. The issue is that Xfinity will not allow you to download it since the operating system check fails. If you do find a way of downloading it, you will find that you will  need to remove the keylogging code ( or just disable it ) or you will not be able to type numeric characters or special characters from the main keyboard into the address bar under the desktop for IE10.

Re: Constant Guard and windows 8

Hi szelkovitz,

The issue with numeric/special characters usually occurs if you have pre-existing anti-keylogging software installed on your machine.  If that is the case, as you described, the anti-keylogging portion of the CGPS software application can be disabled in the Control Center, under the Options tab.

Hi kennarz1,

The CGPS Engineering Department is throttling a Windows 8 compatible release to new users in the next week then will start to update existing users the following week.  We recommend you check the CGPS support site for any updates.

Re: Constant Guard and windows 8

This is for a computer that I converted to Windows 8. I would like to install the software back that I had on the computer previous to installing Windows 8. I need to have the anti-virus software and other Norton software that I had previously.

As previously mentioned, a compatible version of the CGPS software application for the Windows 8 operating system will be available for new download users in the next couple of business days.  Monday morning at the earliest.

Now, I wonder what this really means?

If I used it before (say on Win 7) I can not download it?

I have sen this term before in your posts about CGPS in Win 8, so please define "new download users".

Hi USAF_E-8_RET,

In throttling the release, the CGPS/Windows 8 version will only occur for new installations.  At this time, we are not releasing the CGPS/Windows 8 to updates.  So, when the CGPS/Windows 8 version is available, existing customers will need to uninstall/reinstall the software application from our download page.

Thanks for the clarification.  It is like a new program for only WIN 8.  Uninstall the old version and in stall the new one.

Those on Win 7 or lesser and remaining on those OS's need do nothing.  Correct?

Hi USAF_E-8_RET,

For those customers with Windows 7 or lesser I would recommend waiting for the new version when it is made available through Updates.  Thanks for bring that to my attention.  Should have mentioned that in the original post.

Re: Constant Guard and windows 8

So you are saying that becasue I upgraded a computer to Windows 8, I will not have any anti-virus software (I.E.Constant Guard) that I can install from you.

If I want anti-virus software, I need to go purchase it someswhere.

Norton Security Suite is the antivirus program offered free by Comcast and is a totally separate program from CGPS and is in fact compatible with Windows 8.  If you have hte most recent version of Norton Security Suite installed you are compatible with Win 8.  The current version can be checked by going to Support and the About on the main page of Norton Security Suite and it will show version 20.2.0.19.

Any other questions, feel free to ask us!

Since this is an initial install on a fresh windows 8 upgraded system, please follow the instructions below:

Here is a list of the steps for Downloading and installing the Norton Security Suite

Please note that after you Click on the Go There Now, you will see a popup offering Constant Guard Protection Suite.  Click on the No Thanks Button and it will reveal the Get it Now button which will begn your Norton Security Suite download and install..

Once installation is complete, open NSS and manually Run LiveUpdate (located on drop-down under PC Security left side of main page of NSS) as many times as necessary for it to respond "no updates found". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no updates found" and then reboot one last time. Your installation should now be up to date definition wise and ready for use.
.
If any problems/questions feel free to start a new thread on the Security Board and we'll provide assistance.

Hi CGPS-Support, it's been over a week now and I am still not able to download new installation of CG.  Do you have a new ETA as when it will be available for download?

Re: Constant Guard and windows 8

The big problem is that Constant Guard DOES run under Windows 8 if you disable the keylogging! On my new computer which came with Windows 8, I am unable to download the package. If I were, I would just disable keylogging until that problem is fixed. On my VAIO, which originally came with Windows 7, I just disabled keylogging and the existing Constant Guard works just fine. I think all we are asking is just allow the package to be downloaded with instructions for those who do not know how to disable the keylogging. I have had it running ever since the Windows 8 RTM was released.

Re: Constant Guard and windows 8

A point of clarification - The Constant Guard Protection Suite software for Windows 8 is available through New User downloads - only. We have not released a version to the Updates for existing customers. Customers who have Updated their operating systems to Windows 8 will need to remove the current installation of Constant Guard Protection Suite, restart the computer, and then download/install the Windows 8 version from www.comcast.net/security. The download/installer will detect the presence of Windows 8 on the computer, and will install the correct version.

Re: Constant Guard and windows 8

Metro Mode is NOT compatible with some browsers, and the current version of CGPS doesn't support the 2nd display option (Metro Mode). You need to select Desktop Mode. If you are using Chrome, you need to go to the Chrome menu and select "re-launch in Desktop Mode." Once that is done, the CGPS software browser-helper-object/extension will install and can be enabled. For other browser, you need to just select Desktop Mode. The next release of CGPS as well as the Chrome 25 release should this issue.
