Can you offer any reason why I should give up ConstantGuard to get whatever benefits from Chrome? (The same crashing happens when I install Chrome.)

Hello - the issues with Chrome are ongoing, and are certainly not restricted to Constant Guard. When the Chrome session crashes, it will bring down whatever application was running when it crashed, and will list that application - it does not mean that Norton crashed Chrome, or Constant Guard crashed Chrome, or MSN crashed chrome. It means that something crashed Chrome and took that application with it.
We are hoping that the Chrome crashing issues subside with the release of Chrome 20. Due to the nature of my job, I run IE, Firefox, and Chrome with CGPS, and have seen several crashes with Chrome - but not enough to worry about - and that is dissimilar to some of the posts I've seen here, and to the ticketing which comes through our Support phones, chat, and webforms. It is still not "huge." Within the next few days we will release an update to Constant Guard Protection Suite to be released in conjunction with the next browser updates. We think that the combination of this release and the release of Chrome 20 will resolve the crashing you are seeing.
For right now - there isn't a solution other than to use IE or Firefox as the default browser, and use Chrome as your normal browser - just not set as the default. I do think this issue will be resolved between our release and the next Chrome release.

Make no mistake, the problem here is Comcast's Constant Guard "protection" which continually freezes my Chrome. Even when it's working it tries to take over my browser and always has pop up messages. If you fix it for Chrome, please let me know. Otherwise I'm removing the program.

We, like any other web application, have a BHO (browser helper object) which is the *link* between the software and your browser. It is your browser which gives US information. It is your browser which tells us if it detects a secure password field, based on the coding to that web page. Your browser is crashing, and is crashing our extension. If your browswer tells us that you are on a bank web page, and that bank is in our trusted network database, when you click on a log-in field, we will then issue a pop-up asking if you wish to add the account or if it is already stored as a secured site in your Constant Guard software, we will ask if you wish to open it. If you answer "yes," we will then open our secure browser, and everything you do, regarding that website from that point forward, regarding that bank account is done in our secure browser. We can't take over your default browser - in this case, Google Chrome. If you disable the CG chrome extension, only sites stored using our SecureView secure browser will open, and no prompting will occur for any site, including financial ones.
We have just released a software build to the Comcast download page which includes bug fixes for Google Chrome. However, these fixes relate ONLY to the Constant Guard application and will not fix the Chrome issues which we believe are fixed in the Chrome 20 release.
Before removing the Constant Guard Application - if you intend to reinstall, create a backup of your stored accounts. To create a backup:
1. Click on the CG icon to open the Constant Guard Protection Suite dashboard;
2. Click on the "Options" tab;
3. Click to "Backup;"
4. Select or browser to the location you wish to save the backup file;
5. Click to Backup/Save
A "backup.idv" file will be created at the designated location. This file cannot be opened. It is an encrypted file and can only be imported into the CGPS application, and can only be imported after the PIN used during the file creation is entered during the import process. You can even attach this file to an e-mail and send it to yourself for safe keeping, or to download/reinstall if something happens while you are traveling and you need to reinstall while you are away from home.
To remove and reinstall CGPS:
1. Go to your Programs/Features control panel (add/remove control panel for XP);
2. In the Programs list, find Constant Guard Protection Suite (CGPS) and the CG logo;
3. Click on it to highlight it;
4. Click to Remove or Uninstall;
5. When prompted to Save or Delete the Secure Password File - SAVE. This is the Microsoft Security Certificate which houses your encrypted secured accounts and your PIN;
6. Fill out the Uninstall Survey - mark as "Temporarily Removing;" and Submit;
7. RESTART the computer. It is the restart that finishes the removal process;
8. Go to www.comcast.net/security and click to Download the Constant Guard Protection Suite - during the download/installation, watch for any prompts from your Security or anti-virus software, and "Allow" the installation.
9. After the installation, click the CG icon to open the Constant Guard dashboard, click on the ? in the upper right corner, and click to "Check For Updates." This will immediately update the trusted network database for banks and financial institutions related to our SecureView browser.
NOTE - if you have already installed or enabled Norton Security Suite - it will not be removed and reinstalled.
See if this resolves or mitigates your issues with Chrome.

Been there and done that, constant guard still crashes!!

Hi cubduke,
We recommend you uninstall/reinstall the CGPS software application using the Constant Guard cleaner tool in order to remove the software. Also, before you run the cleaner you will want to save your accounts to a Backup File so you do not need to recreate your accounts. The feature is in the Control Center under the Options tab. Also, you may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
To completely remove all traces of the Constant Guard software from the computer, download and run the Constant Guard cleaner tool. Click here to download the tool, run the program, and follow the simple prompts to remove the software. You will have to reboot your computer after running the cleaner.
If you plan on reinstalling Constant Guard after removal, then you can download the software by clicking here.

Hi,
I have already done that and the problem remains.
09-24-2012 04:27 PM
Hi cubduke,
What software version are you showing? When you re-downloaded the software from the Comcast website you should have downloaded software version 1.12.917.1. To verify your software version open the CGPS software application then click on the "?" mark then select About. Also, what version of Google Chrome is installed on your computer system? To verify, open Chrome, click on the wrench then select About Google Chrome.

Hi,
thx for replying. I have already done all of that and still having problems. So I uninstalled chrome, and installed firefox making that my default and constant guard still was causing problems... so I disabled it and that is that!
09-26-2012 12:18 PM
Hi cubduke,
We have not had any reported issues with regards to Firefox being set as the default web browser. If you have the time could you tell me which version of Firefox is installed on your computer? To verify your version of Firefox, open Firefox and click on Help then select About Firefox. We appreciate your assistance.

15.0.1
10-01-2012 12:38 PM
Well, cubduke, that's a surprise. I thought you may have been using the beta 16 release. I'm using FF 15.0.1 with CGPS and am typing this message to you. We have had almost no issues associated with FF 15.x release, although Mozilla did change the installation procedure with FF15. As such, I'm at a loss without more information. If you have any browser related crash, it's going to have to do with *how* our software is interacting with the browser, and that communication is through the BHO (browser helper object), which, for Firefox is an AddOn/Extension. My suggestion to you is to remove Constant Guard Protection Suite completely, using the CGPS cleaner here -

http://downloads.idvault.com/comcast/cleaner/const
After running the cleaner, RESTART the computer. Make sure that FF 15.0.1 is your default browser, and then reinstall the Constant Guard Protection Sutie from www.comcast.net/security - watching for any prompts from a firewall or anti-virus software to allow the installation. Due to the change in the FF installation procedure, you'll be prompted several times regarding the BHO (Add On). Just follow the prompts, and the Add On/Extension will finally be enabled, and the software should run fine with your system. The only other thing I would suspect, IF the crashing continues, is that there is another plug-in or extension which is in conflict with ours. I hope this helps you. |

I may try again. thx!

Hi, It is 12/23/12 and I still have Google crash every day. We do the auto updates, but still the crash and it blames Constant Guard. Any hope?
12-24-2012 05:47 PM
There's always hope, but I don't know what version of Chrome you're using or what operating system. If it's Windows 8,then click on "Chrome" in the Chrome toolbar and click to "Relaunch in Desktop Mode," and see if the issue goes away.
If you are using Win 7, then check and see how many tabs you have open. We've found that the more tabs you have open, the more crash prone Chrome is - and that would point to memory issues - if you're using an older OS or are short on memory, then you'll see the crashes more frequently than on a faster PC with Win 7 or Win 8 and plenty of RAM.
Do we have a final solution for Chrome crashes? No, and probably never will. When it crashes, it will post whatever application is running as the culprit. It could be us, it could be Norton, it could be any browser application which uses the Chrome extension to operate. We will release another version when Chrome releases 25, and hopefully, we will see some improvement when they revise their launcher.

Hi LoRydeRanger,
On most computer systems the CGPS software application will prompt the user when a new version has been made available to Existing users but your can also perform a Check for Updates which is available by accessing the CGPS Dashboard, clicking on the "blue button" and selecting Check for Updates.
Now, the reason we recommended a customer to uninstall/reinstall the software application is due to the fact that we release new software versions to the New Users before we release the new software version to all Existing Users. The reason we do this is if there is an issue with a new software release we have more control of containing the problem.

thanks for the replies but i have already uninstalled and reinstalled CG and with the same results. I have made firefox my default and called it a day. You can now close the support.. thanks!

I wonl;t speak abut the Constant Guard crashing, but the following instructions shold help you with installing Norton:
Please let us know how you get on.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'
04-23-2013 11:10 PM
Because my constant guard add-ons crashed does that mean my computer isnt protected anymore?
04-24-2013 11:37 AM
The add-on crashing means that the browser cannot load the add on for the web application. So, it depends on what you mean by "protected." If you have Norton installed and it is working, then you are "protected," as far as that security application is concerned.
However, what crashed on your system and when? Did you see a browser crash when you were trying to install/activate Norton or Constant Guard Protection Suite? What browser were/are you using when the crash occurred?
We have released a new version of Constant Guard Protection Suite which includes a new "loader" for the browser helper object for Chrome to alleviate the majority of the crashing within Chrome. So, is this a new problem, or have you been seeing it for awhile? If the latter is true, then you may be able to alleviate the problem by just going to your control panel to Programs/Features - find Constant Guard Protection Suite (CG) in the list of programs, click to highlight it, and click to uninstall. SAVE the secure password file, when prompted, and restart the computer.
After the uninstall, go to www.comcast.net/security and click to download/install Constant Guard Protections Suite. The new version includes the new "loader" for Chrome.
