Net 3.0 is a requirment for Constant Guard Protection Suite which if you lok around the security forums here you will see has caused many and varied problems. The Net 3.0 situation may not be caused by CGPS, but ithe situation is certainly stopping you from installling CGPS.
I personally would recommend you install Norton Security Suite on it's own following the instructions in the FAQ's at the top of the Security Board which suit your situation. On the NSS download URL, click on No Thanks on the CGPS popup and it will reveal the Get It Now so you can download only NSS.
