I apologize if this has already been answered, but I searched the forum several time and was unable to find an answer to this, so I am posting my question here.
What is the deal with Comcast not offering Norton Internet Security 5 for Mac? The issue is that version 4 (the version currently available through Comcast's website) is not compatible with Lion. Lion has been out for almost a year, and Symantec released version 5 over 6 months ago.
Comcast just did a full revamp of its Windows offering with ConstantGuard (which is required to install Norton for Windows). What is the hold up here? It seems unfair that Comcast uses this as a selling point, but then fails to provide a product that is compatible with an operating system that is installed on the vast amount of Apple computers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Tyler

Hi tgd85,
Please go to the Norton MAC Forums with any questions you may have about this subject. They are located here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-for-Mac/bd-p
I know this sounds like aI am copping out - but I am not a MAC user, do not understand the differences and the last I heard it had something to do with licensing, but am not familiar with the particulars.
Also you stated:
"Comcast just did a full revamp of its Windows offering with ConstantGuard (which is required to install Norton for Windows). "
It is not necessary to install Constant Guard Protective Suite in order to download and install the Norton Security Suite on a Windows system. The two programs operate and are independent of each other.
I do agree it is unfair to use the Norton offering as a selling point for MAC users and then not provide aproduct that is not compatible - if that is the case.

tgd85, I completely agree. I run both Windows and OS X 10.7 on my machine, and I want both sides protected. Comcast is big enough to keep pace with both major operating systems.

I keep hearing 'licensing issues', etc. Mountain Lion 10.8 will be out before this is sorted I think. -.-

Gee - what a surprise - Mountain Lion IS OUT and still no updates. What am I paying for? I already have to live through XFINITY spewing advertisements at me when I want to watch anything - as if my monthly fees were not enough.

It's 4 months since this posting, calling out the lack of concern for Mac/Comcast customers and Comcast has still not provided protection for those using the Lion Operating platform. This software is not new- they've released Mountain Lion, so good luck to folks using Mac systems less than 2 years old! I assume Comcast customer relations reads these postings, so would Comcast at least have the courtesy to tell us why not, and what their plans are?

Most of the posters here are customers - just like you are. The "experts" are also customers who volunteer their time in order to help other customers. We (experts) know there is a drastic lack of attention paid to these forums by Comcast employees (those with red User Names).
I would suggest you drop a note to Comcast corporate customer service (we_can_help@cable.comcast.com)?
For the quickest response, please include:
Your full name;
Service address;
Phone number & an alternate number if possible;
Account number;
A link to your post.
I now that is not much help, nor answers your question, but it's the best I can do as a fellow customer.
Have you tried the Norton MAC Forums? They are located here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-for-Mac/bd-p

Hello,
USAF_E-8_RET keeps telling us Mac users to check out the Norton forums, Why? The question is why hasnt COMCAST updated the product they are offering to THERE customers. From what I can see this has nothing to do with Norton.

The Constant Guard Protection System is customized third party software offered free for Comcast Customers. The AntiVirus/AntiMalware/Firewall portion is Norton Security Suite (a modified version of Norton 360). Thus the reference by USAF to the Norton forums.

You need to ask another question. The question you need to ask is: Why hasn't Norton provided the product to Comcast to upload on their server? I know that sounds like a cop out - but try to understand how this works.
You see this all works a bit different than what fiolks are used to. Normally when a new upgrade/product is provided by the procducer (Norton) it is offered via their servers to their commercial customers first and then when it is preped and ready for release in it's modified state (so the license is not tracked, the Norton Account is not present and what ever else they have to do because Comcast actually controls the license) it is placed on the Comcast serves and is available for download for the Comcast customers.
I have stated before I am not a MAC user and have no idea about the different OS #'s and names of their systems. That in itself handicaps me greatly in trying to answer your questions - I do pass on what I am fed by my contacts at Norton. I do believe the best source for info on Norton programs on a MAC is in fact the Norton Mac Forum.
Tell you what, why do you not PM one of the Norton folks who can post on this forum. TonyW_Norton, JonMcB_Norton CarlosL_Nortonask them if you can not get any info from them.

Comcast provides the Norton software to there customers. Norton is not giving it away to Comcast customers. Therefore we need to be asking Comcast why why have not updated there agreement with Norton. If Norton will not provide software for the most current Mac OS then Comcast should come out and say we are trying to get the new updates and not have people telling everybody to contact norton. Asking Norton about the security update will get us anywere because we do not hold the license Comcast does.
