Once again you do not have to download and install Constant Guard Protection Suite in order to install just the NSS, you can still obtain NSS V 6 via this download link and selecting No Thanks on the CGPS popup and then the Get It Now to start the NSS download.

I installed NSS 6 last night - You may want to edit your post to include doing Live Update a couple times, E8. ![]()
I have a question RE Constant Guard - what does it do that NSS doesn't do? It seems to cause more problems, but what else?

Hi gleo,
E8 did make mention of the updates in his post here: ![]()

Yep saw that BlueJay. But assume 99% of folks read this thread but not the other...

Hi gleo,
Did you read the Product update notice on the Norton forum that I linked?
It states:
"Please note: a reboot will be required. We also recommend that you run LiveUpdate to receive the latest smaller updates and definitions.
To verify you have the update, launch the Main User Interface, click on Support, and select About. The version number of the new release for Comcast Norton Security Suite will be 6.2.0.9 (2012)."
I worked with Tony Weiss to get that posted on Norton so that I could use that as a link and provide most of the information for customers to follow to get updated. I also included the update in another post as BJ stated.
Sort of reminds me of the phrase - you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink! ![]()
I am gathering more information ow that I have some time and hope to be able to catch up somewhat and get a Step by Step developed as we have posted in the FAQ's for other topics.

No I did not follow that link in your post above. I downloaded/installed and did Live Updates last night before you posted anything about NSS 6 being available. My post suggesting you edit your post above was for OTHERS who may not bother reading the first link. Just trying to be helpful.
Regarding my question about Constant Guard...I'll just continue to assume its a pile of junk not worth mentioning. ![]()
Enjoy the holiday and thanks for your service.

OK - understand now - you're probably right - my bad!
I regards to your CGPS question - I am trying my best not to bad mouth that garbageware - since we finally have an employee trying to assist here on the forums and they really do have a lot of ill feelings to overcome in regards to CGPS. Let me just say - CGPS will never touch any of my systems.
Hopefully everyone will have a great holiday weekend and thanks for the thanks for my service!

Thanks for letting us know.
Off to get my update...
05-24-2012 05:13 PM
I installed NSS V6 on all my applicable systems beginning last night and today. I completed the process on each system with NO problems! I did run Live Update a few times and restarted twice....again NO problems!! I'm very thankful that it was finally released. By the way, I do not have Constant Guard installed and do not intend to install it.
E8 -- Thanks for your service! Thanks to all the veterans for your service!

lol - Many years ago after Comcast absorbed my cable co, I tried software they offered that promised to enhance my internet experience. It did that by forcing me to reformat and reinstall Windows to get rid of it! Sounds like they haven't learned much......

Hi E8: I saw this forum on upgrading nortons to version 6.2.0.9 which I did by using the link you gave. my question is, how about those who never read the forums. does comcast send out an email to these people to upgrade or what?

Hi zeike,
Unfortuneately Comcast/Xfinity does not usually send out info on these type of upgrades - it is pretty much based on word of mouth thru these and the Norton Forums. Also since customrs can opt out of receiving announcements from Comcast, there is nothing that says everyone would get the word that route - although I would think it would be worth a try.

NSS version 5 does support FF 12. The latest NSS is version 6 which also supports FF 12.
FF 13 I believe is due out pretty soon and once it is officially released, Norton will followup with an update to ensure Norton compatability. How soon? Nothing is promised, but Norton has been pretty quick with the last few FF upgrades.
I'd like to recommend you upgrade to NSS version 6 at this time because I suspect Norton will supply the Firfox update for version 6 (rather than the older v5). They may update both, but I won;t take that chance on my system.

Well, I upgraded to NSS Version 6, and then I did a LiveUpdate only once to get to Version 6.2 (with a total of 20 updates). Now, the Norton Toolbar is working so far. When I start the computer, it only took over a minute for the NSS icon to show up, but otherwise, it's working fine. Thanks. ![]()

Hi Pharrell,
I'm glad you were able to get the download. Which version of Firefox are you using? Thanks.
EDIT: I forgot to add that I'm Tony Weiss from Norton. Yep, I'm really from Norton, I'm not a robot or an automated response machine, and you can see my posts on the Norton Community as well.

I downloaded and installed this with no problems. Everything seems to be working, but the Norton gadget on the right side of the screen says "No connection." Any suggestions about what that means? Thanks very much.
05-30-2012 12:31 PM
Ignore my previous email. I clicked on "support," and Norton did an Autofix for me. Everything is fine on 3 computers.
05-30-2012 01:20 PM
Hi8 Marcus3344,
I'm glad it's fixed for you. That would have been my recommendation too -- we had a similar issue crop up in the Norton Forums (http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/360-v6-D

Thank you very much for posting the link. I had kept running Live Update on my version 5 whatever and it would say: you have the latest updates. but stay version 5 whatever. I was worried about accidently installing Constant Guard since it wasn't clear from the button that an opt out would appear but your threads explained it would.
No problem downloading and installing using Firefox - although the 20 updates and then the 2 more took quite a while to finish.
Just wanted to add a warning that now my Norton's Security Suite dialog box has emblazoned under the status icons: Constant Guard by Xfinity and the CG icon below it along with activity map which spooked me.
But I don't see Constant Guard on my installed programs, so I guess it's just generic branding.
Thanks again
Charm

OOPS, must be chemo brain As I went to update my other computer I noticed that the old version 5.2.1.3 has the exact same Constant Guard logo. But the version six has a different color scheme (white background, then black bar with CG , then white background) which makes the advertisement pop, while the old version only had greybackground and then black bottom instead of the three tone new one. Just paranoid about CG
Thanks again

Hi Charm2017,
I am glad you got it all sorted out and you can rest easy about CG just being a branding (like the Xfinity). I have been going nuts as folks are calling NSS CG ever since some markleting type @ Comcast decided to use that branding. We now have the original Constant Guard (for BOT warnings), Constant Guard Protection Suite (which includes NSS and the worthless Comcast/Xfinity Toolbar) and then they had to add the "Constant Guard from Xfinity" to the NSS main page. You can imagine how the helpers here feel when there is a post: "CG doesn't work", and we need to figure out whhich CG the OP is talking about.
CGPS will never touch any of my systems, but I do believe, that the CG Shield labeled Xfinity on the main page will link you to CGPS if you have it installed.

I came from version 5.0.2(?) and the link installed 6.0.0.145 instead of 6.2.1.5. Now, with FF 13 I am once again without the Norton Toolbar. Whenever I go to the link to install 6.2.1.5 now, it keeps getting hung on the uninstall of the current product. I tried manually uninstalling, and then going to the link, but I keep getting 6.0.0.145. How can I get 6.2.1.5 so I can get a working toolbar?
The link takes me to this post:

owlynagain,
I just tried the bottom link from your message and it works OK for me. It brings up a page with a pop up asking if I want Constant Guard. I then click "No Thanks" and I get to the page to download just Norton Security Suite. Do you have a pop up blocker that may be keeping that link from working for you?
06-05-2012 10:41 PM
Ed,
Thanks for the suggestion. I had NoScript enabled, so I allowed All on Page, and that allowed me to continue properly. Anyway, it made no difference. I have now installed Norton from every link in that message, as well as the links in the messages those links refer to. I even uninstalled Norton and Installed ConstantGuard to get access to that Norton install. All any of it wants to give me is 6.0.0.145. This is really frustrating. During the uninstalls, i am telling it to keep my Norton settings when it asks if I will be instaling another Norton product. I really don't want to answer "No" to that question.
I am still stuck...

Well, I just found this page: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Nort

Norton 360 2012 (6.2.1)
Norton Toolbar: 2012.7.3.1
Norton Vulnerability Protection: 10.1.1.8 - 4
Norton Identity Safe 2012 (6.0.72)

Comcast Norton Security Suite 2012 (6.2.1)
Norton Toolbar: 2012.7.3.1
Norton Vulnerability Protection: 10.1.1.8 - 4
**EDIT: We have temporarily removed the recent update for Comcast Norton Security Suite 6.2.1 due to a patch distribution issue. We will update shortly when the patch is available for Comcast Norton Security Suite. If you already received the patch, you do not need to take any action and you will not experience any issues.**

Well, it's a good thing that I received the patch update for the Norton Toolbar when I did yesterday.
06-06-2012 10:51 AM
Hey folks. Tony Weiss from Norton here. We're working to get the patch available as soon as possible. I'll let you know when I hear more solid info. Thanks.
06-06-2012 12:58 PM
owlynagain,
Thanks for posting that information.
I had updated two of my three PCs before this issue arose so I expected that the patch was still available when I posted before. Funny, but I did notice that I had to LiveUpdate and then reboot THREE times to complete the updates on both PCs which seemed kind of weird at the time.
Anyway, hopefully the good folks at Symantec will have a fix soon so I can update my last PC and you can get your update too.

Tony,
I was stuck on Version 6.0, uninstalled, reinstalled, and still could not get to the end of Updates. i was working with Air Force during the entire process. Could not resolve it, could not get to the end of updates so finaly uninstalled Norton. I will admit I was behind on updates because I have been ill, but after spending tow days trying to resolve this, I installed Microsft Security Essentials so at least I have anti virus working on my PC again.
There has to be a better way...

The 6.2.1 patch is back up. You should be able to Live Update up to this latest patch level now.
As a reply to another comment, those on 6.0 that had not got to the 6.2.1 level before the patch was pulled were still protected. Those systems will get 6.2.1 automatically through automatic live updates over the next day or so.

Thanks everyone. I am now up-to-date and everything is working fine. One note for those who still have to upgrade: for some reason it takes a couple of Firefox restarts until it recognizes the new toolbar. Once FF recognizes it, you need to enable it.
08-27-2012 07:31 PM
I'll be interested in downloading the Norton. Seems like a good added deal from Comcast. Comment about users reading forum for updates and glitchs to overcome is a good suggestion. The slug about veterans: well, what about $10,000? When I got into the army (WWII) the term life insurance premium (for 10K) was "automatically" deducted from the $50 a month we rec'd.(Plus a war bond deduction.) It wasn't till I got out after the war, that I learned it was "supposed" to be voluntary. (PS: I converted it to 30 year life!) Who knew?!
