When will Comcast have Norton Anti-virus available for us Mac Lion users? There is such a Norton product out there but not through Comcast yet.

This is the most current info I have received from someone associated with Norton:
"For Lion we are having them install the product already available on the comcast site. It all works except for some of the web conponents. A new version for Comcast for lion is in the works but I don't have a public eta yet"
This is the latest I have received from Comcast:
"I reached out to our Constant Guard team for a update on this questions. Once I get word from them I will update this thread."
Both bits of information were from December, 2011 and I have not heard of any changes.
I have just now re-escalated this to Forum Admin here @ Comcast. We'll have to wait for a reply (as we have been doing)
I will also ask that you go to the Mac Products Board on the Norton Forum and ask the qustion making sure that you specify that it is for the Comcast Mac Download.

We will also be awaiting your response as to what Norton said.

Thanks for such a quick response. I will follow through on your suggestions and download the current version of Norton even though it says it is not compatible with Mac OSX (Lion)

The web link you provided did not work.

By all means, please provide feedback for the other MAC users (as I am not one and really winging it trying to help here). ![]()

According to the Norton website they are dealing with licensing issues between them and Apple. That was posted in January.

Thanks for the feedback - I had heard that awhile back!

Works, but frequently causes a pop-up message to warn about corruption in the anti-virus and asks to update it and reboot.

What is the status of this issue? is the Lion version available?

The NIS v4 available from the comcast website works on OSX Lion (10.7). Note that some of the web protection features are not availalbe.
There is currently not a Norton solution for OSX Mountain Lion (10.8) through the Comcast Constant Guard service. We are investigating an update to the Mac product offering through Constant Guard and will provide more information when it is available.

As a fellow Mac Lion user, please get us the new update for Norton Security to use with Mac Lion as soon as possible...At least let us know how long this will take! I can download nothing!

I was just talking to a Comcast chat rep...
They are playing completely ignorant and dumb...
as if this problem is news to them.
In the end I was told to go to Norton Forums....
And in the Norton Forums you either get lost, give up
or find out there IS no solution planned.
This isn't Norton's problem... they would LOVE us to buy
the whole Suite outrite. Comcast has dropped the Ball with us MAC users
and doesn't care.
I was told I could check out McAfee.... this from a tech rep I already
paid, to give me Norton... which they aren't providing.
I must admit I DID get a huge laugh out of one techrep's answer...
It does work.... with the caveat that the internet part doesn't work.
Hahahaha.... Norton Internet Security... Works Greeeaaat....
except the Internet part... or the Security part...... ![]()
I have ended up getting a freeware product.... this is absurd....
Once they have you for a customer that are totally willing to risk losing
your entire business just to shave a few bucks... it's the new standard.
The meeting room scenario....
"Should we risk a class action lawsuit....? Or will MAC users be too ashamed to admit
they need antivirus. Lets' risk it....$$$.

The current product offered through the Constant Guard program is NIS Mac 4, and as described above, works on OSX Lion and not OSX Mountain Lion.
Sounds like you had NIS Mac 4 on your system and then upgraded to Mountain Lion, which NIS Mac 4 will no function on.
My statement above about the supported systems and ETA on resolution is still accurate. I'll update the board when there is a change.
Thanks!

I spoke with the constantguard people, who transferred me to norton and was told there had been no update on norton for Mac for mountain lion..or snow leopard or lion. Why say you offer it when it clearly is not there. Tried to install it and all I got was a request to insert CD? No CD exists in my house for this nor was any provided during install???

So. I do have NIS installed and I upgraded to Mt Lion. Never occurred to me that NIS didn't support it. But here's my problem, the NAV scan begins whenever I connect a disk to the Mac. How do I uninstall NIS now? It's hanging on a problem iPod that I am trying to restore. The only way out is to disconnect the iPod without ejecting properly.
Thank you.

Are you able to run the uninstallation app? Look in applications, under Symantec Solutions. That application should be able to run and remove it for you.

Comcast and Norton really ought to work this out. I have two teenaged kids that use Mountain Lion, as do I. As much as you try to educate them, it still takes a combination of education, experience and protection/intervention to keep them out of trouble. Comcast sells this as a benefit of being a Comcast customer. It is in everybody's interest to keep systems clean and people from making mistakes.

In the meantime there are free antivirus alternatives to Norton should you prefer to install that when it is available. Clam and Sopos are two..

Just finished a 2 hour marathon of comcast->norton->comcast->norton->comcast->supervi
Seems awful wrong to me that Comcast can advertise, as a way to entice you to sign up with their internet vs. other providers, something that they have no responsibility to actually provide.

Don't know when it happened - but they do have the newer version (5.4) available to install now.
