I recieved a message of copyright infringement.I was away from 3/24 till 2/29 afternoon.I know nothing of this.What is it about PORN?Not by me or any i know.Can my signal be used?If so tell me how i can prevent it.

Please read the "sticky" at the top of the Home Networking and Router Help Forum describing how to secure your wireless network....

IF you're sure YOU didn't download from any neferious sites....it's a safe bet a neighbor (or someone nearby.....) "tapped" into your wireless connection....

I'm not totally familiar with the reporting - but it appears thsi is the 3rd incident.  Original on 26 January, 2012, another one on 3 March, 2012 and now this one on 11 April, 2012.

Your grandson downloaded copyrighted material in violation of Federal law and got caught doing it. Delete the work ' SEXY AND I KNOW IT, from your computer. Also remove any bitTorrent program using Add/Remove Programs.

Finally, I suggest you restrict, if not outright ban, his use of your computer.

Should the copyright holder elect to sue (unlikely, but possible) you are responsible.

What the heck are you talking about and what or who is/are RED TAILS and/or Bit Torrent?
I have no knowledge of, nor interest in this THING whatever it is.

I've taken note that the "Timestamp is: 2012-06-21 22:52:30.450 GMT."
I note also that the "Date Last Seen is:  2012-06-21 22:52:30.450 GMT."
The Timestamp and the Date Last Seen are identical down to the second??  
 If someone is playing games with me, am not in the least amused.
 
As for the date in question, 6/21/2012, my Hotmail service was at a virtual stand still for much or all of the afternoon and evening supposedly because of a hard crash at Twitter per CNBC. It caused an Internet freak-out I read later.
On June 21st, I apent a good part of the day attempting to send emails to my family without success. Failure after failure.

When, after annoying waits, I tried to access other sites via Google on Hotmail/Comcast, I frequently and repeatedly ended up on sites unknown and unwanted before I finally gave up in thorough disgust.
All this after hours of accomplishing absolutely nothing.

If anything, this subscriber is deserving of apologies, not accusations.

These notices, although sent from Comcast, originate from the Copyright Holders -- not Comcast themselves.

The three most common ways you will receive a DMCA Violation Notice are, in order:

1. Your computer is INFECTED with malware. A third party who has remote control of your computer is using your connection to illegally download copyrighted material. This is the most common reason you get "caught" of violating copyright law!
2. You have a wireless network with either no password protection or a weak password, and someone in your neighborhood used your connection to download the copyrighted material. Or, if you operate a business that provides wifi to your customers, for example at a coffee shop, one of your customers downloaded it.
3. Someone in your house/office (children, grandchildren, roommates, friends, coworkers, etc.) knowingly downladed the material.

There are other possibities, but they are incredibly rare.

If you have questions, or need direction on how to check for infection, secure your wireless network, or just want to learn more information regarding copyright infringement and why/how you were contacted, call CSA at the number in the email, (888)565-4329! They are available nearly 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

These emails are not notices of legal action. They are simply cease and descist orders from the copyright holders. If you do not take action to remediate the issue, your service may be terminated, you may be sued by the copyright holder(s), and you may face criminal charges. The way the law currently reads, it makes no difference if you knowingly or purposely downloaded the copyrighted material or not. Even if you were infected with malware and that is the cause of the infringement, you are still ultimately responsible for the activity. There is nearly constant legal, ethical, and technical debate about copyright infringement, but the only thing that matters is the way the law reads right now. The law says this is a crime no different than stealing a physical DVD or music CD from a store. It's as simple as that.

This just happened to me.

I just got a wireless router on Black Friday (my old router picked this day to die).

I have never used one before, so I once I got it setup I left the default password on.

Now I'm going to have to take the time to figure out how to change it.

Course in my defense I called Comcast with help setting up the router. They never told me to secure or how to secure it. So it's also their own fault.

At any rate I got a bunch of those at least a dozen or more for porn.

I'm not too worried about it, cause I don't think the companies that make porn are going to come after me specifically. Also if they looked into they will realize it was my router and my connection that was tapped into and not me personally.

Anyway after I post this I'm going to figure out how to secure my router.

My point is don't sweat them too much, if asked tell them the truth. Best thing is to lock down your router and they will stop.

One last thing I wouldn't worry so much about the notices, unless it's a ton over a long period of time the companies will not come after you. Doesn't pay them to. I would worry more about them using your bandwidth. Comcast is unlimited but if massive amount of stuff is being downloaded from your router this is not good. Also slows down the connection you pay for.

Lesson learned. Lock down router. Solve problem.

FWIW, that is incorrect. They can't see or tell which particular client behind the router is responsible. They would only be able to know that it was your WAN (public) IP address for your general connection.
