Upgrade 5 to 6

Hello:

I want to upgrade my norton from 5 to the latest 6. I seem to recall that going from 4 to 5, it was not necessary to uninstall 4 first----the 5 installer took care of removing it and installing the new---which is really the way any good software install should work----keeps uninstall/install problems to a minimum.

SOoooo---can I go from 5 to 6 the same way? Is it really necessary to go through an uninstall of the old first?

thx

If I said maybe, would you be upset?  Provided that your version 5 is working flawlessly it is okay to do an overinstall for version 6.  If you have any problems with version 5, it would be better to uninstall, run the Norton Removal Tool and reinstall.   Otherwise, with no problems with version 5 - go for the overinstall.

A word of caution - please backup your ID Safe Data if you use ID Safe for you log-ins.  This data should transfer with the overinstall - but better safe than sorry.

Once version 6 is installed run liveupdate (rebooting as requested) until liveupdate responds "No updates found", then reboot one more time.   You should then be on version 6.2.1.5 (On main page of NSS Support > About).  This will permit you to use FF13.0.1 also.  Remember to import your ID Safe data if not done automatically.

Let us know how you get on.

You could just slam v6 in there and it should work perfectly.  :smileyhappy:

However, I left nothing to chance and uninstalled w/NRT and installed after a reboot and a CCleaner run.  An ounce of prevention....

IIRC from the beta, it does as you say, uninstalls 5 and then installs itself.  You will have to reconfigure your settings if you've changed them from default.

Doing an overinstall you do not need to run the Norton Removal Tool.  But please backup your ID Safe as a safety precation.
