Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

Two days ago (12/18/12...and for months before then) we watched a couple of on demand shows from the disney jr section (under the kids section). Yesterday and today when I tried to access it the prompt came up that I would have to buy the shows.  What changed?  Are they no longer free?

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

No the disney channels are now part of a pay package that will cost you $10 additional dollars a month to subscribe to.  It's another example of Comcast sucking every dime possible out of their customers at a time when people can least afford it.  Thanks for charging me more for the same thing (again) Comcast.

Shady, you should have asked if the poster has a package that includes Disney Jr. You may not know that sometimes this happens with On Demand channels that are included in a customer's package.

They are still free. If you have a cable tv package that includes Disney Jr. you should not see that you have to purchase the shows in On Demand. If you do try you will not be able to buy it anyway and will be told to call Comcast.

The coding on your account is wrong. Call Comcast and have them check the coding and correct it.

If they cannot correct it please post back in this topic.

Incorrect coding is a common issue-in fact it happened to me a few months ago with Tru TV. I could access Tru TV On Demand on only 1 of my 3 boxes. It took a while to get it corrected on the 2 boxes that told me I had to pay for whatever I wanted to watch on Tru TV On Demand.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

This is OUTRAGOUS!!

Not only was there no notification, but they want an extra $5.99 a month simply to access Disney Jr. on demand!

So mad that we may leave comcast over this issue!

what the heck are you talking about?  Obviously the poster does not have a package that includes it and the fact remains that YOU NOW CHARGE FOR DISNEY on tiers that used to include it no charge.  Simple answer.

Shady -- You don't know what you are talking about... I just spoke with a CSR from Comcast, it is now a Subscription like HBO according to them. Regardless of if you get the channel, the on-demand content is no longer free.

What the heck are YOU talking about? The poster did NOT state whether his/her package includes Disney Jr. Please quote the part of the post that says anything about not having Disney Jr as part of the package.

Disney Jr on Comcast has ALWAYS been included in the Preferred or Premier Packages. It has NEVER been included in Digital Starter or lower.

The CSR you spoke with is incorrect. Disney Jr is NOT a subscription you have to subscribe to just like HBO.  The CSR may have been confusing Disney Jr. with Disney Family Movies. Disney Family Movies is $5.99 a month and is only available through On Demand.

http://www.comcast.com/Corporate/Learn/DigitalCable/Disney.html

If Disney Jr is included in your TV service tier you do NOT have to purchase it for On Demand viewing.

I'm looking at Disney Jr. right now in On Demand and am NOT being told I have to pay to watch the programs. If the 5 year old was here right now I would be able to watch anything from Disney Jr On Demand because it is included in the tier I subscribe to.

dsy, I repeat: call Comcast if you have Preferred or Premier and can watch Disney Jr on the regular tv channel.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

I had the same problem and it cost $10 per month now.  And to top it off, the first customer service representative I got spoke such poor English that I could not understand her and she refused to give the call to anyone else.  The next time I called I got a very helpful lady who spoke English.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

  1. actually I do know what i am talking about because I am repeating EXACTLY what a comcast rep told me this morning when I called to ask about this change.  I did not change my subscription in any way and as of yesterday had disney both on demand and on regular channels.  Today I get neither and was told I now need to pay $10 a month additional to get disney.  So tell me where I am wrong in my statements?  The rep responding in this post states that nothing has changed and the rep on the phone says it has!  Another example of comcast's excellence and why the annually are rated as one of the ten most hated US companies.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

Hi all,

As of 12/20/12, Disney Jr. content was no longer available to all customers On Demand. As long as you had a cable box with On Demand, you would of had access to Disney Jr. content On Demand.

Now, to have access to Disney Jr. On Demand, you have to be subscribed to the linear Disney Jr. channel. A Digital Preferred package or higher is required.

Sorry,

Thank you Joe for the information. I was not aware of that fact because it had never been mentioned anywhere.

It's a good thing I have Premier XF so the 5 year old can watch Disney Jr when she is at my house.

I was informed about an hour ago that she will be arriving later today to spend a few days with Nana.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

It would have been nice to have been notified of the change, but be that as it may, I have now committed to an additional $10 per month.  My biggest issue is the tech support female that I got the first time I called and could not understand her English.  When I requested to speak with someone else, she refused.  And by the way, she was also un-educated about the On-Demand changes.  She reset my cable box and, of course, it did not make the On-Demand work.

The second call I made was much better.  I spoke with Crystal who spoke EXCELLENT English and explained what had happened with the On-Demand, added the necessary programs and then called me back to make sure it was ll working correctly.  Crystal should be rewarded at least with a "good job" and the first person who I could not even understand her name, should be terminated.  She sounded like she was oriental and was adamant that I could not speak with anyone else.

There are other options available for all of the services that Comcast provides and customer service is an important part of any companies success.

Thank you.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

You have to upgrade to Digital Preferred for only $17.95. What a scam to get you to upgrade by using your children. Great timing Comcast with whats going on in the news and right before Christams??? Looks like I will be upgrading.....to DISH.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

Wow.  Comcast customer service is really bad.  The first CSR I talked to said I would have to upgrade my service, but that I am in a 2 year contract (which I don't remember being in a contract) and the only way to do that would be to upgrade from my double play to a triple play package.  Not going to do that since I don't need phone service.  He couldn't tell me when my contract expires so he transferred me to a CSR in the billing department.  This one couldn't understand what I was saying and kept trying to recap my explanation but got it badly wrong everytime. He also spoke terrible English and kept repeating himself and saying things like "ummm.... how do you say... umm...." as if I was supposed to know what he was trying to say without him being ablie to articulate it.  At least he told me I am not under contract.  Then he puts me on hold for like 5 minutes and when he comes back he tells me that Disney Junior is down right now and it is outside of Comcast's control and it should be back within 24 hours and I don't need to change my account at all.  Not sure if he was just trying to get me off the phone or what but based on the information in this thread I'm thinking he doesn't know what the heck he is talking about.  Before my call he had never even heard of Disney Junior - he said, "is that a channel?"  Step it up Comcast this is a joke.  I will not be paying more for something I was already getting.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

This is really low Comcast. I have been talking about how great the service is and how I have no complaints. Now this happens and right before Christmas no less. It really does seem like a horribly cold business practice to manipulate your customers by using their children. A two year old doesn't understand why they suddenly can't watch their favorite show anymore and lots of people dont have an extra $10 to hand over to comcast. Perhaps this was a sign that my kids were watching too much TV anyway.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

I'm really angry about this right now. Just found out this morning that we no longer have access to Disney Jr On Demand (a few months ago it was Nick Jr) AND I just received something in the mail recently that said our Starter package is going up by $5 a month as it is. So, now if I also want these shows back On Demand, I'll need to be paying $10 a month more (so now $15 more per month)? No way. I'm getting so ticked with the constant changes--ALL OF THEM HURTING THE CUSTOMER.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

After getting completely misled by CSRs when I called in I thought I would try a different method - chat.  At least this time I think I got accurate information (eventually).  But now I am even more upset.  I was happy with Comcast until I actually had to deal with them and now I realize how bad they are.  Also my wife reminded me that we lost Nick Jr. from On Demand a couple of months ago too.  There has got to be something wrong with this Comcast.  From a lawyer's perspective maybe they have themselves covered, but it is just plain wrong and on top of that will serve to drive customers away.  Here's the chat (with not relevant parts cut out).  And all this is after one CSR tells me I have to upgrade to triple play, then the next tells me Disney Junior is having an issue and to wait 24 hours and it will be fixed.  So this was my 3rd attempt to find out what is going on and what my options are.  My favorite excerpt - "Me: OK, so basically it is around $90 more if I want Disney Junior.  Chris: Yes.  That is correct."

Chris: Hi, I’m a live Comcast products specialist. What questions can I answer for you today on adding new services?

Chris: Just type your question below.

You: What is the deal with Disney Junior? I no longer have access through On Demand. A CSR yesterday told me it was an error and would be fixed soon but in the forums they are saying it is an intentional change in services.

Chris: I'll be glad to check which cable plan will include our Disney Jr.

Chris: Channel line-ups for every cable package vary by location, however we can definitely take a look at the available offers in your area. May I have your address with the zip code ?

You: ______________

Chris: Thank you for providing your address with the zip code.

Chris: What TV plan you currently have with us?

You: How am I supposed to know?

You: It is an older plan as I understand that isn't currently offered.

Chris: Disney Jr is currently under in our Digital Preferred cable.

Chris: Here's a link to a new window where you can review the channel line up. Please Click Here to see the page.

You: OK, so how much would it cost to upgrade?

Chris: The Digital Preferred cable will cost you $86.49 per month.

You: No thanks. What a joke. Thanks for continuously downgrading service and increasing the cost.

Chris: May I ask how much you are currently paying with your TV plan?

You: I am paying $80 for Blast internet and limited basic TV with HD and 1 DVR with Streampix and On Demand.

Chris: It seems that you have the most basic Digital Economy.

Chris: With our Digital Preferred you will have access to around 70 HD only channels including the HD channels in Digital Starter plus our HD Broadcast channels that are available locally in your area! Chris: Digital Preferred has more than 160 digital cable channels. You get everything Digital Starter has plus channels like Nick Jr., Nick Too, ESPNews, NFL Network, NBAtv, MLB Network, G4, Logo, Lifetime Movie Network, Sundance, Disney Jr., Encore and 5 of its multiplexes and many more.

Chris: How are things coming along?

You: I'm back.

Chris: Cool! Are you ready to continue?

You: Yes, what I'm really wondering is what my total bill would be, including DVR, cable modem rental, etc. So I can compare to what I am paying now.

Chris: Digital Preferred $86.49 + Blast internet for around $58 a month + $16.95 for HD DVR + $7 for the modem lease.

You: OK, so basically it is around $90 more if I want Disney Junior. Chris:

Yes. That is correct. This will keep your current Blast internet + your limited basic TV will be upgraded to Digital Preferred plan.

Chris: Here's a link to a new window where you can review the channel line up. Please Click Here to see the page.

Chris: On the channel line-up page, you can see the additional channels you will get with the Digital Preferred plan.

You: Yes, I see clearly how this works.

Chris: Cool! How does the Digital Preferred plan sound to you?

You: Terrible.

Chris: The other option you have is to add our Family Tier plan. Family Tier includes Toon Disney, Disney, Discovery Kids, Nickelodeon or Nick Too, Disney Jr., Nickelodeon Games and Sports (GAS), PBS KIDS Sprout, DIY (Do It Yourself Network), CNN Headline News, The Weather Channel, C-SPAN, C-SPAN 2, Food Network, National Geographic, Science Channel (Discovery), HGTV, TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network Chris: Family Tier can be added to Basic Cable for around $14.99 per month to your current plan.

You: Wow do you guys work on comission?

Chris: No, we do not anything like that.

You: Can you understand why I would be frustrated after chatting with you for however long, after talking to you about how I only wanted Disney Junior, and then having you try to sell me $90 worth of extra services as if it is my only option, and then have you tell me about another option that is much cheaper. Makes me wonder what else you aren't telling me. Is there any cheaper package or add-on that includes Disney Junior?

Chris: You mentioned about you currently have On Demand, Family Tier and Blast Plus does not include On Demand so I cannot recommend Family Tier plan.

Chris: No other plan that you can add on online to get Disney Jr. I recommend you to call customer service to see what other options they have for you. You can reach them at 1-800-266-2278.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

for some reason info does not trickle down to the CS reps about anything.  Unfortunately this issue affects people in the lower tiers.  This was the exact same issue when they moved TCM to a higher tier.  Those of us who have higher tiers don't get affected by this.  Its obvious that comcast wants people to move their services up for more revenue.   You should get into a promo so these changes don't affect you, my advice at least.

Disney Jr and Nick Jr are on the upper tiers of service. Those of us who have those tiers have a subscription to those channels and we pay for them.

Those who do not subscribe to one of those levels have been receiving for free what WE pay for.

Comcast decided that Disney Jr On Demand will no longer be available for free to those who don't have one of the upper tiers.

It's either subscribe for more money or do without. If I have to pay for it so should you.

I pay for all the channels and have a promo those channels are included with my package, are you saying that is you have the channel you still need to pay for it on demand?  I checked I have no charges for it on demand.  My area is different though as I have tons of competition here and comcast knows that.

Right, according to comcast above you need digital preferred or higher to have access.

I have HD complete XF so that is included with the package.  So in short you need digital preferred or you pay for access to it.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

I subscribed to Comcast Preferred triple play a year ago.  This Includes Disney Jr.

Suddenly I can not watch it with On Demand.  I still receive the linear channel.

When selecting an episode of Mickey Mouse to watch on Demand,  now the button I used to select to watch it, (it looks like a CBS eye)  has the word Buy, even though the top of the screen says free to subscribers.

When a fee is required, this field usually has the cost amount.  To test things out, I select to Buy.  I then

get a pop-up menu saying that I can't  even pay for it because I am not a subscriber.

I spent over an hour on the phone trying to explain how mucked up that is.  The service rep was convinced that some channels are gated from On-demand even though you can watch the real channel.

I will call back tomorrow...

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

@Comcast Joe....Seriously?! I am so annoyed right now. Someone said it's another way for Comcast to suck more money out of us. So true. We pay SO much per month and have no movies channels. My almost 3 year old son has watched On Demand Disney Jr. every day for the last 2 years. Several times a day. He is autistic  and the ONLY thing that calms him down sometimes is Mickey on Demand, Jake and the Pirates on Demand, and Handy Manny on Demand (obviously during the afternoons and early morning hours when they are not on the actual Disney Channel). Not only will I be buying DVD's of these now, I will be going to Direct TV. Have been thinking about it for awhile now, but this is definitely the last straw for me & has made my decision for me.

Re: Disney Jr on demand no longer free?

Is Dish network or DirectTV better in the Denver area?  I am switching our service since Comcast only raises rates and takes away services they provided before.  We pay 180 dollars a month, have Disney and Nick channels on TV, but now have to pay extra to try and watch the four same Disney Jr or Nick Jr On Demand shows?  All my three year knows is her shows are no longer are on when she gets up.  On Demand, I mean Demand more Money.  What a joke.

I'm in the same boat as the poster above. I have Digital Starter & I've always had Disney Jr On Demand until last month. Try explaining that to a 3 year old :smileysad:   Oso, Mickey, etc are ALSO on regular Disney, so they should also be on Disney On Demand, imo.

They also moved Dora & Umizoomi to Nick Jr On Demand, even though Dora & Zoomi are ALSO on Nickelodeon (which is on Digital Starter).

I am in the same boat too.   Went to turn on Disney Junior for my 3 year old on on demand and it was gone.  It took 3 calls to customer service.  The first time they said  they just needed to reboot and wait an hour.  The second time they scheduled a repair man..the third time they told me it would be ten more dollars a month.  Well I dont have ten more dollars a month!  Comcast why can you offer these great starter deals to new customers but you can't afford to cut me...a 9 year loyal customer....a break?  I am going to be dropping everything but Internet I think....you are squeezing us dry with no regard for your long term faithful customers!!!

Agreed.  Bad form to drop kids shows.  Why don't y'all come explain to my two kids why their favorite show is no longer available.

How about grandfathering in current subscribers and making changes like this only apply to new subscribers?  You can explain that this is part of their wonderful onboarding pricing [that Comcast won't offer me as a 20+ year subscriber].
