What do you mean by "tv guide?"  Selecting channel 1 should bring up On Demand, if the dedicated On Demand button doesn't.  In what way does it not work?

when you hit the tv guide button no listings come up. it says ,to be announced and the time does not change

What time doesn't change?  Do the channels appear in the list?  What box are you using?  What about the On Demand?
