FYI: HP faxing REQUIRE a 2pin/wire phone cable

FYI:

HP faxing devices seem to REQUIRE a 2pin/wire phone cable, and will screw all up if using a normal

4pin/wire phone cable...

With the more common and normal 4 pin/wire phone cable, when connected to the comcast phone line, will 'hork' the line, making it go dead, and also seemed to make all the lights blink on my comcast box, even though my internet would keep working (go figure). The phone line would not work, until the HP connected via normal 4pin/wire phone cable was disconnected, and about 1-2 minutes went by, then the phone line would provide a dial tone normally again.

luckily, found an old 2 wire phone cable, works like a charm. chatted with comcast to have them cancel their technician service dispatch, glad too, as that would've been a waste of everyones time, money, and patience!

The need for a 2 wire phone cord for these printer / fax combo's has been mentioned more than once on this forum, thanks for the refresher.

Re: FYI: HP faxing REQUIRE a 2pin/wire phone cable

Well, yes, and more to the point, it was the specific issue, none of the other things were relevant, so I thought it might be useful.

Also, to point out that Comcast technical support, on 2 separate phone calls, had no clue as to this issue or how easy to resolve, and first created a ticket, and never acted on it, and apparently even closed the ticket without ever getting back to me as they had said they would, and then, on the 2nd call, no attempt at reasearch of the issue or troubleshooting, but quickly into dispatching of a technician to come on-site, that would have been a big waste of time and very frustrating.

Just thought it would help to post, to increase it's visibility on google searches and such (which is actually how I found this wonderful and accurate answer to resolve the issue in the first place.) trying to pass it along and pay it forward so to speak...

Cheers!
