FF6 and Java 6

I see that FF6 is here. I heard from DSLR that FF6 is not compatible with latest Java 6 version. Does anyone know if it has been fixed.

Re: FF6 and Java 6

Do you have a link to the thread as DSLR discussing the incompatibility?

I went looking at DSLR for information about Java (console?) and FF6. The link I would have you both see is:http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r26198001-FireFox-Mozilla-Firefox-6.0-Final.~start=80. KoRnGtL15 says s/he "has just updated to 6 and Java console not supported. People will be running into this tomorrow. Is there a fix?". I am interested in FF6 incompartibilities also. Hope you guys get this figured out!

It's an issue with Firefox 6, and java font display. Nothing wrong with the java iteself. Java 6 Update 27 supposedly fixes the bug.

I sure hope so because I have been holding off installing FF6 and guess what FF6 decided to update itself without my approval and it promptly disabed all my Java.

There are scattered comments about the Java issue in this link.

I also thought I might mention that with earlier versions of FF when you updated to newer version of Java you were able to uninstall the older java console plugin but with FF5 that option was taken away so as you update Java console you still have the older console plugin you can no longer uninstall.

You can manually remove the older consoles by deleting their folders from the program files>Mozilla Firefox>extensions folder.   They have numbers like below.  The bold number is the java console version.  Remove all except for the latest version which is 26.  Some might have 27 if they manually downloaded it.

Thanks lead5alpha, that did the trick. I guess I'll throw this question into the mix while were talking Java. It's presently disabled. I did check both browsers at Java.com and they show that I have latest Java ( 32 bit ) version installed even though the FF6 plugin is this disabled.

I noticed Java has a new version ( 64 bit ) ready to install. I opened my internet explorer ( 64 bit ), ran that at Java.com and they said I do not have Java installed on this browser in ( 64 bit). Can I install the 64 bit version to this browser or will it conflict with the other 32 bit browsers

It appears at this time there is no new 32 bit version of Java availiable.

Re: FF6 and Java 6

Java itself is working.  The only thing disabled is the console which most of us would not use anyway.  Here is a java test page that will show if Java is working within the browser:  http://javatester.org/version.html

There is an update 27 on the Java website that provides support for Firefox 5 but it has to be downloaded manually.  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

I don't use the console so I have not downloaded it.  (If I recall correctly the java console was also disabled in FF5)

LPP, I have Windows Vista SP2 (32 Bit) and attempted to update. I still have Java Standard Edition, Version 6 Update 26(build 1.6.0_26-b03). I am assuming from what has been said earlier in this thread that this is the latest version for Windows Vista SP2 (32-bit). Am I correct? I suppose the situation is the same for 32-bit Windows 7... I have never messed with console stuff and have always just updated Firefox when I have noticed some information here at Comcast help forum about updates.

lead5alpha: I checked that Java was working in both IE8 and FF6: it was. Thanks. So if you only installed the different versions of updates to Java, one-by-one, you don't automatically have the console?

Re: FF6 and Java 6

There is always as delay from the time a new Java release appears on oracle.com (nee sun.com) before it appears on java.com.  The updates your computer gets comes from java.com. Unless you are having problems, you can wait until the udpate is installed manually.

Re: FF6 and Java 6

That was my point. When I go to Java.com to update Java I use internet explorer to do so. When it does update it also installs new version of Java console plugin to FF. I did use your test page and I am good at this point.

I appreciate you guys taking time to explain this to us.

Thank you also LPP for your assistance on this subject.

To put finish on this can I install the 64 bit Java version for my 64 bit IE 9 or will it interfer with the 32 bit versions of both IE 9 and FF 6..

Re: FF6 and Java 6

Never had cause to need both since  I only use the 32 bit versions of the browers (yes, this is a 64bit machine) since most addons are not compatible.

I don't have the answer for you, but maybe lead5alpha will.

Re: FF6 and Java 6

I to only use the 32 bit browsers on a 64 bit system. I understand there are not many 64 bit programs out there if any at all. After some more research I realize there's no reason to run or use the 64 bit browser.

Thanks LPP for your thoughts on this subject.
