Links not working on comcast home page.

I haven't been able to use my home page for 2 days now.   I am using Safari, and have never had a problem with it.  The only way I was able to get to the forum, was to select "contact Comcast" link.  Once I was logged in there, I went back to home page to check email, and got no response from the link when I selected it.  This is a new feature.

I just logged in with Firefox, and can access everything.  I will try Safari now and see if there is any difference.

I logged in with Safari, and still cannot access email and only the Top Videos, and some of the lower level links to news stories.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

I am having the same problem.  It would appear as if the newer versions of Safari 5.05 and 5.1 will load the Xfinity Home page but none of the links will work.  I tested it on both my imac and my macbook and the same issue came up....The home page links seem to work fine on my Lenova with IE 8.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

CCCarole thanks for the reply...I just got done with a chat involving Comcast and the nice lady with a Russian first name was open to the discussion but really could not find a solution other than to use IE 8 or change home pages.   Very frustrating to say the least....Hopefully there is a solution as I will have to change homepages if this continues.

Please post back and let us know if each of you have been using the FULL version of XfinityConnect, or the LITE version too.

I am having the same problem and spoke to comcast rep. she was polite but useless in solving my problem.she kept telling me to use internet explorer on a windows machine, she could'nt grasp the fact that i have a mac.She told me she would let the engineers know and if the problem is not solved in 72 hours call back. A real waste of time

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

This is interesting, using Safari 5.0.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and I'm not having any problems with http://xfinity.comcast.net.

I know this is pretty basic, but have you all cleared your cache and cookies and restarted Safari?  And difference at all?

If not, then would someone please go to http://xfinity.comcast.net, hover their cursor over a link that's not working and tell us what link it is and what it says in the message area in the lower left corner of the Safari window?  Does the pointer change from the arrow to a little finger pointing hand?  If you click the link, does the page flash or reload?  Do you see any errors at all?

I have cleared everything. When you put your cursor over what you want to open and click on it nothing happens at all. It's like you never click on anything

What happens when you hover the pointer over the link, does the cursor change to a hand and do you get a target URL in the message area in the lower left of the Safari window?  What link were you hovering over?

It would really help if you answered all the questions, not just some of them.

Has anyone tried temporarily disabling all of their plugins and extensions and seeing if that fixes the issue?

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

Xfinity.comcast.net/? That is what comes up in the URL window. All I type in is comcast.net. That is what I have typed in for years and it has always worked.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

I tried everything outlined and still no improvement....However, the news page link you provided seems to work....The problem seems to be a compatability issue between safari 5.05 and up and the Xfinity home page....Again, the home page loads up quickly, the links are not functioning.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

I've just had a report of one person who said the problem was fixed by disabling plugins.  We still have to track down which one is causing the problem.  Please respond if this temporary fix of disabling plugins and java doesn't work for you.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

I noticed this morning that the links are working, but an earlier problem still exists.....When you select a link for a video story the window with the story opens up and the 10 or 20 second add plays, but the video story doesnt.  In fact, it trys to open and then skips to the next video story listed and the adds play again and then it repeats....The video storys never open....The links to picture files seem to be working again and the links to written stories are working as well.....

I just checked mine and it still does not work. How do you disable plugins?

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

Try clearing your cookies one more time.  I know you've probably done this once if you've been following this thread, but there's a known issue that screwed up cookies can cause a problem with video delivery, so it's still your best bet.

Is there any settings you've changed or any plugins you've upgraded to get this working?

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

Under the "Safari menu, go to the "Preferences" option, and then select the "Security" tab.  There should be two options to uncheck: "Enable plug-ins" and "Enable Java".  Uncheck them both and completely exit out of and restart Safari.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

I disabled all the pugins and all that did is prompt me for flash player to be installed....I cleared all the cookies etc....The home page loads up and the links seem to be working.  The challenge is around the video news as they will not load....The commercials load but not the  new content...

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

PDKrall,

Yeah, the plugin suggestion was only for the issue where clicking links didn't do anything.  If clearing cookies didn't fix your issue, I'll have to think about what else it might be.  As far as I know, no other users are having this type of video issue at this time, but I'll double check on that.

Thanks, but the issue is happening on both of my apple computers.....The problem is really around compatibility with Safari and Comcast.  Any fixes would be helpful.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

CC....

I noticed that all the links are not working now.....I am back to square one on the compatibility issue....I  believe the challenge is Safari with Comcast.net....I checked the browser on other sites like, CNN, Fox News, ESPN, etc....and there is no problem.....I will give this a day or so, but feel I will have to change home pages soon as the Xfinity home page is not working and not bringing any value...

Thanks,

It can't be basic compatibility with Safari 5.0.5, or it would not work for everyone, and I can verify it works fine here with Safari 5.0.5.  It has to be something local in your browser.  Since it's happening to more than one person, it has to be something that's at least semi common among users.

Have you tried disabling your plug-ins, one by one to see if any of them are the cause?  See this link for how to do that:

http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/safariplugin.htm

Do you have any 3rd party security or firewall programs installed on your Mac?  Are you using a router?  If so, which one?  Did Comcast insist on installing any software when your HSI connection was setup?  Nothing is necessary but some Comcast techs insist it is and the Comcast software is know to cause trouble sometimes.  Are you using the Comcast toolbar in your browser?  If so, get rid of it.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

I saw a msg. from comcast saying they updated their stuff.  I think its something they did that is causing the problem.  My Safari (version 4. something.) was working fine until they changed something.   My Firefox works fine.  I am running OS 10.4.11.  Didn't want to update because of some things I didn't like about 10.5.

I got it to work for a couple of minutes and then went back to same problem....I have done everything outlined in this discussion and nothing seems to work.....Unfortunately, I will have to change homepages.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

Another thing to try is Safari -> Reset Safari... with ALL options checked.

Also, what extensions do you have installed?  I have 1Password and AdBlock.

Things worked fine with Safari 5.0.5, and I've just upgraded to 5.1 and things are still fine.

What about plug-ins?  Everyone has as least a few?  Which ones do you have?  Safari -> Help -> Installed Plug-ins will get you the list.

not that many...just the basics....In researching some of the internet discussions around this, there would seem to be a challenge with regards to javascripts.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

There are no error messages.  Nothing changes when you hover over the links.  I have refreshed the page and cleared cache and no change.

This is something that happened recently.  Maybe a week ago.  Before that all was well???

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

Mine started to work as well.   The change happened when Apple pushed some software to me as an update.   The links are working, but the video is still not perfect as the video news stories still dont work.  The links will get me to the right place and even the commercials will run but the video content stalls out.

You might want to start a new thread with your exact browser and plug-in specifics, this sounds like a Flash issue.

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

Glad I found this thread.  My Dad is having the same problem, but he is using IE rather than Safari.  He uses xfinity connect cable (not wireless), home page is xfinity.comcast.net, uses comcast's email, and has Windows Vista.  On the comcast homepage, the news stuff won't load and none of the Favorites (URL's) will connect. I also cleared his cache, cookies, history, everything and still nothing.  I called the local comcast number and she checked the connection/router, which was fine.  She gave me another number for comcast service, but when I spoke to them they said I would have to buy a (rather expensive) service plan, but didn't say they could fix the problem.  Any ideas???

My links aren't working either.  I have to use IE to get anywhere and I don't like IE.  I was using google chrome for everything, now it doesn't work right.

I have Safari 5.1.7 on my iMac and everything at Comcast works just fine.  Maybe just update to the newer version?

Today they are not working for any emails that Comcast sends me.  I have to cut and paste all links even though the msg says to click on the link below.  It is the same for both Safari and Firefox .

Re: Links not working on comcast home page.

I am using Safari 4.1.3.  If I upgrade, I will have to go to 10.5.x for it to work.  I am using MAC OS 10.4.11.

I like it better than the newer OS.
