When I got up this morning, IE9 had downloaded and I didn't request this. Now my home page freezes and I cannot do anything. How do I get my IE8 back without losing any vital programs for my computer?

Tugger1998, you probably should have started a new thread. Anyway, once you get IE9 off, you should still have IE8 installed for your use. Your system should revert to IE8 if you had it before. I followed this thread to remove IE9 and I did not loose anything within my system: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2579295/en-us

In my opinion the problem isn't IE9 - have had it since 4/2011 , no problems until very recently - to me it's one of the many updates , i.e. automatic from Windows , manually from Lenovo in my case , and periodically from Adobe which I opt for that's conflicting with IE9 - or it could be Comcast/Xfinity itself that's clashing with IE9 all of a sudden .
I don't know for sure what the culprit is but it's good to share our experiences and then eventually a solution will emerge .
