when I try to open a email wmv file I get error message;
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

WMV files are native to Microsoft Media Player. If one is refusing to play, the it is more than likely that the file has become corrupted.
Have the person who sent you the email, resend the wmv file, this time storing it in a zip file before attaching it.
When you get it, download the attachment to your computer, open the zip file and extract the wmv file.

I can open same wmv files on my work computer and they work fine. Every wmv file I have been receiving will not open and play in Xfinity.

Are you saving the wmv file to disk before you try to play it??

if I save the email attachment (wmv file) to my video file then I can play it. I don't understand why I can't play it directly from the email, use to be able to view them by just clicking on them and they would open & play.

Most likely it's an issue with the Xfinity webmail program. I'll pass it on to them,but in the meantime, you'll need to save the wmv to disk first.
