Once the email quirks are all fixed, are there plans to expand the app to sync with xfinity calendar, tasks, and notes?

Re: Comcast App for Android

Email quirks will be fixed in two releases one coming out soon 3.5.2 and another after that.

The Tablet support will be later in 4.0 versions of the app. No dates yet.

Calendar is a good question and i will find out.

Just downloaded it to my Galaxy Nexus. Tried running it, and nothing works - all I get is a small black window in the bottom left of the screen.

Has anyone actually got this to work successfully on Android 4.0.3?

Hi

Can you tell details about your 4.0.3 OS ?

which phone you are using? is this officially released OS from carriers or you personally installed with beta version?

I installed the new app. I get notifications in the top line of the phone like I did before but the icon does not stay in the tray.  Other than that, it seems to be working fine.

Re: Comcast App for Android

Hi ComcastKchahal,

Yes. The phone is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon Wireless. It is the official 4.0.3 OTA download that was pushed by Google/Verizon, not my own build (although that's a fair question :smileyhappy: ).

One more thing: I'm talking about the xfinity mobile app for retrieving voicemail and email from my comcast service. I'm not talking about the xfinity TV app - I don't use that.

Re: Comcast App for Android

Cleared cache, uninstalled old app, installed new one.

The problem with disappearing emails continues to persist.  The problem seems to happen after deleting a couple of messages... all of a sudden a bunch of messages just disappear from visibility in the inbox (though they are still there and visible from the web browser).  I think this makes four or five versions of the app that I have used, and this problem is still there.

Sigh (again).

There is new version available in the android market 3.5.1 from Jan 31.

I'm having the same issue with the Xfinity Mobile app on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. It's running Android 4.0.2. It's not rooted and all updates were received OTA from Google.  Here's a screenshot (https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/lXEkJKTPH5OjBdDFWhBJutMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink) of what happens when I attempt to open the app.

Re: Comcast App for Android

The app woks well on my Samsung Captivate (Gingerbread) however in my area (Montgomery County, MD) the HD channels are mislabled and many SD channels are labeled as HD.  Also many of the 800 HD channels are not listed.  I would also like to have the option to expand the amount of time that the app checks for new mail.  Currently this only goes up to one hour.  I would like a two and four hour intervals along with the option not to check for emails (only check if I go to the email function).

Re: Comcast App for Android

Drives me nuts that the xfinity notification doesn't stay in the notification tray.  Then why use it - I have to open the app just to see if I got any e-mails. This didn't happen with the last version of this app

Emails still disappearing, although either over time or via page refresh, they reappear.  Regardless, I shouldn't have to worry about if my inbox is complete or not.

One additional comment - the XfinityTV app for Montgomery County, MD has the HD channels labeled correctly and has all the channels.  It is just the Xfinity Mobile app that has the channels lineup screwed up.  I would have though that both apps would be getting the information from the same database!

Re: Comcast App for Android

Per my note the other day, I cleared data/cache, uninstalled, reinstalled the Xfininty app.

Still having problems with messages not being visible in the inbox from the app (when they are visible through webmail).  The problem always happens after I delete an unwanted message, i.e., I delete one message and then all of a sudden a bunch of messages that were previously visible no longer appear in the inbox.

Hi Anon,

When you say app notification is no staying, can you elaborate your experience ? What is the android OS version your phone is running on? Do you see the same experience when you go outside of the app by pressing back key often untill you hit device home

Re: Comcast App for Android

It is now working properly.  When I first installed it, I'd get a beep and an xfinity icon in the notification tray.  Then the icon would disappear after a minute or so.  So if I wasn't near the phone, I didn't see the icon and wouldn't know I had any e-mails.

Now, it seems to be working properly. Maybe a patch was pushed through - I have my phone set to automatically install updates.  The icon stays in the notification tray.  Also, I'm getting e-mails faster.  I have my phone set to check for e-mail every hour. When I first installed it, I wouldn't get notified until after a few hours - I know that because my Gmail app was notifying me first.  Now, my xfinity app is notifying me every hour like it should.

So for now, no complaints, everything is working fine.

Droid X phone.  Not sure of the andriod operating system - if you need that info, I can check.  Thanks for responding.

Hi Simons,

Can you confirm on following

Do you face same issue when you follow below process

1. Go into inbox

2. Press device menu options, select edit option

3. delete the unwanted emails from list.

Do you face same missing emails issue when you follow same process?

Hi Shermo,

Do you follow any specific steps for reproducing missing emails issue?

Is your app set to hourly interval check ? What is the page size set in your app settings ?

When you see issue, do you receive more number of new emails than your page size ?

Re: Comcast App for Android

My Xfinity Mobile App keeps freezing and tapping on screen just gets me an error message and says "Force Close?" or "Wait.   I tried re-installing app, then I can't use Text.  I get this message:

"Provisioning already set up for this number"  I can"t get by that.

I contacted Comcast and the rep did something then I uninstalled and re-installed and it started working again.  Now it stopped working again....screen freezing again.  Is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

Rocky

Re: Comcast App for Android

I can duplicate the error almost on command, not every time but most times, if I have recently received unread emails in my inbox.  I open app, it goes to the list, then I select inbox, I open up a new unread email, delete the email from within that email, and then next email opens.  I back out to inbox, and all recent unread emails disappear in app view.  They are still on website inbox, and I believe I can even search for them in the app and find them.

My settings are:

  • start screen = list
  • after login in go to main menu
  • log out = never
  • check messages hourly
  • 25 messages per page
  • navigation after deleting an email is "next message"  (I also changed to "messages" and the issue still exists.)

I just tried the edit from inbox screen, selected an email, and delete, and only intended email was deleted the first time.  Sent myself some new emails and tried again and some unintended emails were deleted.  I will keep testing this approach though as all these scenarios are starting to get confusing.

I check email often enough that I never get more new messages that fits on the page (ie 25).

As I keep testing these different scenarios, I appear to have a bit success, but still some failures.  Some of the missing emails have reappeared, but some are still missing.

Re: Comcast App for Android

I am seeing the same problem as Simons, I am using ver 3.5.1 and have tried deleting an email as suggested from ComcastKchahal and still have multiple emails disappear from the inbox. I can never get them to re-appear unless I remove and reinstall the app.
Will this problem be fixed in ver 3.5.2 and if so when will that version be released?

Re: Comcast App for Android

I fought this problem since the app came out. Finally I decided to play around with the settings on both the phone and the app. Found that the disappearing emails is related to the refresh rate that the app/phone conducts with the WIFI server or the carrier's servers. I set all refresh/syncs for Xfinity to as short a time frame as possible to sync, both on the android phone and in the app. That seemed to help some. But for some reason the Xfinity app unlike many others, ie, maps, weather, etc, does not reset the sync on the phone to shorter or instant sync. Suggest that the developers look at how the apps in weather and maps handle the refresh/sync problem. Also, the Xfinity app does not reset or refresh the cache as many apps do. That normally should not be a problem other than Android OS does limit the default storage amount. Again, that can be changed by the app, but at the risk of running out of memory???

Re: Comcast App for Android

I figured out the problem for anyone having issues opening the app with a Galaxy Nexus.

You have to disable hardware acceleration in the developer options menu.

Not really worth doing for the one app to work. Meanwhile I've just added my Comcast email account to the Email app until this app is updated for Ice Cream Sandwich.

Re: Comcast App for Android

I checked today - all the channels are now there, however the labeling of which channels are HD is still incorrect.  Also, some of the upper 900 channels (VOD) have an incorrect description.  As a side note on your TV app it now appears that some of the channels which are HD are not labeled as HD so if you apply the HD filter these channels do not appear. Re: Comcast App for Android

FYI, Kchahal, from limited experience so far it seems that deleting messages using your suggestion of using the edit command under device menu options seems to be working -- deleting messages without causing a bunch of other email messages to disappear.  If anything changes and I do run into the problem using this method I will post another update to let you know.  (This is a roundabout way of deleting messages, and it's still a bit annoying that the regular delete button visible from an email message does not work properly, so I hope they are still working on fixing the problem.)

Re: Comcast App for Android

This Xfinity mobile app is really starting to annoy me.  I'm beginning to think it is not ready for "prime time".  Again I can't use text messaging.  When I click on the text tab I get the message I received when I first started using text.  It's an introductory screen asking me if I want to sign up.  When I click on Sign Up I get the message stating "Provisioning already done for number" and it shows my phone number.  I can't get by this screen to get to text.   Is anyone else having this problem?   Is there a way I can get by it?

Thanks for any feedback.

Rocky -

Currently there is a known issue where the sign up screen will show multple times for someone who has not signed up. We are underway fixing this issue and new udpate will be out this week.

for your issue - since you are getting this message of 'order already ...', it seems like you did get through the sign up process before. Can you log out of the app (from settinsg on the main menu)  and then log back in and then tap on the text tab. If you are sttill getting that error - i will escalate to our teams.

Thanks,

Simons - someone is working up on your issue

Re: Comcast App for Android

Simons,

I did what you suggested but I still get the "Provisioning already done for number" screen and can't get by it.  I can still get my emails, but not texts.  Also, the number of new texts sent to me by others is not included on the Xfinity main menu, it just shows the number of emails.

However, I uninstalled the app, powered of phone, powered on phone and reinstalled app and for now it seems to be working.   Obviously, I don't want to do this every time text stops working.

Thanks,

Rocky

I have the Samsung Galaxy 2 and every night I turn my phone off to charge.  In the morning when I turn my phone back on, I have to go back into my comcast app and log back in and reset my settings for my emails.  I have my setting set to "never" log off and refresh every 15 min.  Is this suppose to happen?

Wrangler8,

By turn off do you mean "Power Down".   When I put my Droid Bionic on the charger for the night (not power down), the next morning I again get the Accept/Decline screen again and have to sign in to Xfinity Mobile again even though in Set Up I said Never log out.

How do I delete PERMANENTLY address book data Re: Comcast App for Android

At some point before I realized google had lumped google+ people into my contacts xfinity app picked up all 900+ contacts and put them in the address book.  They are NOT in my online address book, only the app.

I want to delete the address book entirely...and one at a time for 900+ is not an option.

Where is the address data stored for the Xfinity app?  I have tried system > clear data. I have uninstalled and deleted the Xfinity folder on the SD card and reinstalled.

Tried synching with online address book but synch fails every time.

Haven't rooted my phone so haven't had luck looking at the on-board storage, but that would be really bad if that is where comcast stores it.

Had deleted the app before because it is too buggy to serve a purpose--only put it back on to try texting ... big surprise, first texting attempt said it failed to send the text.

Webempress

What actually happens is - when you go into the address book in the xfinity mobile app - it merely shows all your phone contacts. At this point these contacts are not added to your online comcast address book.

The only way those contacts get added to your comcast address book is when you perform a sync.

You don't have to delete these contacts from the xfinity app. if you do so you will end up deleting from your phone also.

You don't have to worry about anything, those conctacts are only being displayed in your Xfinity mobile app and in no way added to the comcast address book.

what happens when you try to sync ? What error do you get and have you tried doing it while in a wifi connection?

Re: How do I delete PERMANENTLY address book data Re: Comcast App for Android

Regards synch failing: It IS connected to WiFi.  It takes a long time saying it is "contacting server" (progress bar never gets more than half-way) then says "xfinity encountered some error.. relaunching"

I'm not worried about this getting synched to my online contacts--I was only trying to synch there hoping the delete process online would be easier. What I want is all of the contacts removed from the comcast app on my phone.  I tried texting with the app and it was ridiculous looking names up when it is searching through 900 contacts.

So how do I delete?  I'll root my phone if that is what is needed.

When you say it is showing me only my phone contacts, you mean it is showing me only the Comcast phone app contacts correct?  Because I cleared all of the extraneous contacts out of my phone contacts prior to re-installing comcast app and deleting all data for the Comcast app.  I also made sure that I had turned off "restore" data when re-installing in settings.

After each re-install (2 now) the comcast app contacts come back with the people I had removed (I had started removing manually until I realized 900 was not feasible) still removed so it is not picking up the list fresh from somewhere other than comcast data.

Thanks for your help--I would really like to be able to use the app since you've added the new texting feature.

How do I change my Xfinity mobile app to display emails in date sequence instead of subject alphabetical sequence?   It's awkward to have to scroll through many emails to find the new ones.

Thanks
