Does anyone know if the app checks for mail when a PC has SmartZone open? I left mine open overnight, when I woke up I noticed I had no new email on the app. When I came down to my PC and refreshed the mail, it logged me out due to timeout. However when I relogged in again, I had 3 new emails. It seems to have a problem checking for new emails the last few days.
EDIT: I have not been able to receive emails all week, whether by checking every 30 minutes or manually. I have to reinstall the app and it will look for emails then and retrieve them properly, but after that it doesn't work.
EDIT: It's working better today. About the issue with the app freezing up on certain occasions. When the app is "updating" and you close out of it during that time, is it possible that it corrupts it when you open it the next time?

Sorry for the double post but I wanted to bump this. The Android app (at least on my phone running 2.1), has not been updating the past few days. I have to uninstall/reinstall the app for emails to show. Please look into this.

Lets see if we can sort this out.
1. Originaally it appeared to you that having smartzone open on your pC blocked the download of Mail to your phone.
2. Edit #1 says that no mail download Manually or when set to every 62 minutes
3. Edit #2 says that the app is working except that it freezes when you try to close it down while it is updating.
To take Smartzone out of the equation, can you use the Stock Messaging App to send your self email at Comcast and then set your xfinity Mobile app to download every 15 minutes.
Send your self some mail and wait 20 or 30 minutes and open up the app and see if the mail came down properly.
In other words, see if you can create a duplicatable failure pattern.
See if it fails set to 15, 30 and manual. See what triggers the failure.
I will raise the issue with an administrator to escalate the issue. Please monitor your email and ths thread for response. Also please update this thread if you come across any additional info.
Thanks

Yea that's fine, I'll do some more troubleshooting. I will post a summary of my tests. To clarify my earlier posts, last week most of the time it was not receiving mail, I constantly had to uninstall/reinstall. Sometimes it did work (it almost seemed dependent on the day), but most of the time it did not. The second edit I was asking if it was possible that having SZ open on my computer and phone would corrupt things. Sometimes I leave SZ open on my computer overnight. This problem still happens even when I don't have it open though. I'm also thinking my problem with the app freezing when loading emails is all the same issue.
Another thing, I noticed earlier today when I opened inbox on my phone, the date on the bottom of the app said it last updated a day or two ago. Does that date specify when it last checked for mail or when mail last came in on the app?
01-03-2011 03:36 PM
OK, I logged out of SZ on computer, cleared history/cache, and restarted browser. All emails were sent from a non-Comcast email account to my Comcast email account, with SZ never open on my PC at any time. Here are my results:
Test 1 - Check Every 15 Minutes: Waited 25 minutes after test email. No notifications came through saying I had new mail. Manually checked and said nothing new came in. However, when going into settings to change the check for new mail interval, the email finally came in.
Test 2 - Check Every 30 Minutes: Waited 40 minutes after test email. No notifications came through saying I had new mail. Manually checked, updating took 1+ minutes for mail to come through.
Test 3 - Check Hourly: Waited 25 minutes then went to check mail manually (Obviously wasn't testing the interval anymore). Nothing new comes in, even after refreshing several times. The "Last Updated" time at the bottom says 1:55 pm today, even though its 2:20.
Test 4 - Uninstall/Reinstall app: After uninstalling and reinstalling the app, test 3 email joins the other two. Updated time is the current time.
I opened SZ on my PC and all three emails were there no problem. It seems to be a sporadic problem with checking the emails properly (I assume it uses pull instead of push) since the "last updated" time is never the time that it is being refreshed, its always the time it last successfully worked.

Mine did the same. When I first opened inbox I saw a date from several days ago, but then something happend and that date/time reflectd the Time that I opened the Inbox. Strange stuff.
I think that is a sync date rather than a dowload date.
01-03-2011 05:02 PM
Did some testing no trouble with mail coming down from SZ to the XF app.
Did notice something cool. Mail generated on the phone winds up in the sent Folder on Smartzone.
Looks less and less like Push/Pull and more like Synch.
Can you run some more tests with Smartzone open? I'll do the same.
01-03-2011 05:09 PM
I'll try some tests with it open. My problem doesn't seem to be affected by that condition, I was just wondering if that could be a problem.
Is yours automatically receiving emails just fine? Or do you have to manually go in and check?
01-03-2011 05:21 PM
No my droid sounds off when something comes int to messaging but the app doesnt get anything until I open Email.
Incidentally, there is a delay on some Comcast Email Servers. Actually all email servers have a variable response time based on congestion or whatever. ![]()

Yea I'm not getting any notifications whatsoever anymore. Its like its not checking for emails every 15 minutes like its supposed to, and it doesn't manually get emails either. The date thing is strange too, that date should be the sync date/time, if thats not the case then the app is not connecting to SZ properly.
It was working almost just fine until last week when it started sporadically not getting emails. I would get a sound and notification and open up SZ and the emails are there. I had a problem with emails locking up and having to kill the app, which is on a separate thread.

If you go to Messaging, do you have your Comcast Account set up there?
If You go to Menu > Sounds > Volume is the notification Volume Down?
I get notification when they come down to messaging no notification when they come down to the App.

The Fascinate is a little different than the Droid, messaging is SMS and MMS only. Emails are set up separately. Anyways I don't have my Comcast account set up on my phone, only the app. I've always received notifications no problem through the app, that is when the emails come in so there's no problem there. The root problem is checking for and receiving email solely through the app. Up until last week emails had no problem coming in.

We've sent you an email on your comcast.net account. Will need some logs from the app in order to investigate. Please respond.

Also if I tag several messages to delete or to move them to the Trash folder, it will wipe out all of the emails I have received that day. I can go in and do a search for the topic or sender and retrieve them that way. It also will not automatically refresh. I am having to manually do it every time I want to check emails.
I have a Samsung Captivate. I am having the same problem with disappearing e-mails. This seems to happen when I delete an e-mail after reading it. That function takes out the e-mail that I am trying to delete, plus all of the other e-mails that have been downloaded with it. Other read (and unread) messages seem to also sporadically disappear. I do not have any other program downloading my e-mails...I only use the webmail at home, and the app on my phone...so it is not a matter of some other program snatching them.
I also have a problem with getting it to update automatically. I have to press update several times for it to work, and have the automatic setting at 15 minutes. I have gotten a notification once or twice, but not regularly.
For the "wish list" once the bugs are fixed...It would also be nice to be able to see if I have already replied to a message.

It sounds like we are having the same issue. Does yours also "lock" up on the loading screen? Perhaps its a bug with Android 2.1 or Samsung models.
01-05-2011 09:36 PM
That pretty much describes my experience dmb. I haven't had any issues with mine locking up szeck87. But it was annoying enough that I went back to Pop3. My wifes Intercept is running 2.2 and she is having the same issues. Maybe it is a glitch with Samsung.
01-05-2011 10:22 PM
OK, sounds like there are a couple different issues.
1. Some e-mails disappear after deleting. So far all reports are on Samsung models. Can anybody find a pattern? I need to test a couple more times to be sure, but it seems like the e-mails being removed are ones that were last received during the previous sync.
Also, its NOT deleting the e-mails themselves, they're just being removed from the app. They show up just fine in SZ, or if you uninstall/reinstall the app.
2. App gets stuck on "Loading" screen. This has happened to me and a couple other users (even those with Droids running 2.2), but I haven't had that problem for a while now.

Yea I have noticed that. Droid x 2.2 messages disapppear back to a date in mid December.
Read some of the new messages and then delete one and all of the new messages disappear.
Strange stuff.
01-06-2011 08:09 AM
Ah OK, so the disappearing emails is happening on Droids with 2.2 as well?

Seems to be. Seeing and reading mail in the app and all of a sudden everything past a certain emil in December is gone out of the app.
Thinking there must be something like longterm storagee vs short term and the Long term is full??? Seens like Short term storage clears after some triggering event. Will try to identify the triggering event.
01-06-2011 10:45 AM
I think the problem dmb and I are having is a little different. If I open the app in the morning and have say 6 emails and want to delete 3 of them, the app will possibly delete all 6. Or sometimes 5. Or just the three I told it to. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I noticed it was mainly just the current days emails, but it got to be such a pita that after reinstalling it several times, I just gave up.
I'm thinking now of just changing email providers to gmail. I have to have the account anyway so I might as well use it.
01-06-2011 01:24 PM
Well of course you can do that, but there are a couple of other alternatives
If you Browse to M.COMCAST.NET and do your emil there then you are right on Smartzone.
Another alternative is to just add your comcast email account to <uAccount and use the Android Messaging app to consolidate and handle all of your Email accounts, Comcast included;.
01-06-2011 07:43 PM
I forgot to ask in my previous posts, is anyone having a problem with the app syncing in the specified interval? I have it checking every 15 minutes and when I wake up in the morning, there is nothing there and the last sync time was the night before. I sign into SZ and there are 3+ emails there. Also, hitting "Refresh" takes a couple of tries for it to sync.

A few things I learned today...
If you delete a single e-mail in the "All" view, all of the e-mails downloaded at the same time disappear. Sometimes they take everything else with them (old news).
*BUT* If you go to the "Folders" view, and click on "Inbox"...and refresh 2-3 times, the e-mails magically reappear (in the Inbox and All views). Of course, if you delete another one after you read it...you have to go back to the Inbox and refresh again.
Notifications do not work unless the phone is not asleep *and* if you have the application open.
Sounds like good old webmail would be less frustrating, especially in the absence of home voice service and DVR.

I was trying to figure out why it didn't do this all of the time. I'll try this myself next time I receive a few e-mails, nice to know.

It didn't used to do this. Notifications worked fine the first week or so; It would display notifications no matter what state the phone was in, then they stopped.
I found another one today. For whatever reason the "Last Updated" date went to 12/31/69 6:00 pm when I opened the app. Refreshing, closing/reopening did nothing. Had to uninstall/reinstall.

I can confirm that deleting one email will trigger the other emails to be removed (obviously not deleted permanently). Good find dmb-rox. Hopefully this will be fixed, along with auto-refresh, manual-refresh, and notifications not working properly.

I'm now running Maildroid until there's some kind of update for this program. It updates regularly and deleted emails on the phone are deleted on the server and vice versa. So far, for two weeks, it's worked flawlessly. Not as "pretty" as the xfinity app, but it works.
