You know, I understand ads. Really! However, for a paying customer Comcast goes way over the top with commercial ads on their Xfinity video news page. FIrst off I am paying $60 plus a month for Comcast internet, so personally feel I should not have to look at ads. When I read my paid for newspaper, I can choose to ignore the ads and read on. Comcast forces me to see an ad before every single video news clip, and it is the same local ad for Andy Mohr's car dealership. By the time I have watched four or five clips, I am about ready to blow my brains out. I already have Andy's commercial totally memorized. Come on, give us a break.
12-16-2012 09:51 AM
X2 on your compliant. The miserable and annoying ads on their home page are a real pain also.
12-16-2012 10:08 AM
I stopped viewing the video's because of the constant ads. I also can't stand the PROMOTIONS on the e-mail. There should be a ways to eliminate this.

@ ARKK2
There is an email option to stop those. See topic
This thread points to http://xfinity.comcast.net/adinformation/ where you can tweak that. It does seem to work for the email window, but does nothing for the Home page if you want to catch the news. It is not worth the annoyance. I guess the old school news paper still has one big advantage; we can choose to reads the ads, or we choose to ignore them and not have them forced down our throats.
12-17-2012 09:54 AM
Yes more ads and more ads.....just give us more ads ! Don't you like how they (comcast) listen to paying customers ? Hey comcast..... just keep cramming more ads down our throat and we will find a better place to spend our money !
12-23-2012 12:39 PM
I too understand that adds are income generators to y'all but to deal with them on nearly ALL the videos is WAY TOO MUCH. Please, you have a chance to show you REALLY DO CARE ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS. Consider all the caps me speaking very LOUD.
You are not the only game in town.
12-30-2012 04:25 PM
I know what you mean. I don't look at anything if it is in video mode. If it is something I am
interested in enough, I go to google and search it and it brings up the same subject, but
in an article. I'm a reader, I don't need things to be put in video form for me, nor do I like it.

01-07-2013 01:30 PM
Sigh.... I've made this point before, so here I go again.
1) I don't like ads anymore than anyone else
2) It's why I use these forums and dslreports.com for home pages.
3) All ISPs have ads on their home pages. Check ATT.net, Roadrunner, charter, etc. All of them are chocked full of ads. So if you don't want to see them use a different page for a homepage and an email client for email
01-07-2013 02:05 PM
@ CajunTek
You make a good but disturbing point. I guess what you are saying is, Comcast has no interest in what their customers think or want, so we should just get over it or move on. However, why does this forum even exist? We are apparently just waisting our time.
And the difference is, I am not paying AT&T, Yahoo, or Google $60 a month for internet service. I am paying Comcast $60 a month, and should be provided a customer homepage and email, free from ad bombardment.
01-07-2013 04:11 PM
I don't know how you are set up, but my homepage and e-mail do not have any ads at all. You can set yours up that way too.
01-07-2013 05:46 PM
Adblock
01-07-2013 07:19 PM
Some of you did not read the opening of this thread. The complaint was primarily about the video news feeds offered on Xfinity (Comcast) home page, where you have to watch the same freaking video ad before EVERY SINGLE news article.
They have already reduced this some since I started this thread, but as a paying customer, I want it to be zero...
01-08-2013 11:55 AM
Watch videos? HAH!!!
I never do that, mostly because of the ads.
While I second nearly everything that's been said in this thread, there's a further example:
Merely to enter my log-in credentials, to a site I'M PAYING FOR (there it is again), there's a giant display ad.
I log in from work occasionally to send or check personal e-mail, and why does there have to be a full-screen red ad with short-skirted woman, for any passersby to see?
I know: don't log in from work. But really, it's one thing when it's a discrete little box for refinancing or whatever else they've sold, which is bad enough, and another when it's this garish screen that can be seen from across a room. Again, to access a service I'm paying for - and not just $60, but a full $160 or so for the package.
01-11-2013 02:57 PM
add another voice to the anti adds campain, when you pay for a service you expect to get it add free.
My option is not to support the local sponsers on the videos and to let them and Comcast know. That as long as there offensive adds appear i would not consider them for any purchase
01-12-2013 08:43 PM
Get google chrome and then install ad block. You won't be dissapointed.

I am going to use yahoo as my new email address and will be looking for a new cable company. two days ago a blinking red light started on my email page and I called Comcast and rep said that he needed to transfer me to Norton in case it's a virus. Norton Rep. told me that it was a paid ad by Comcast and they get kick backs when ever anyone clicks on these ads. I clicked so many times trying to get rid of this ad because it had to do with Outlook, which, I don't have. Norton Rep. said it had nothing to do with a virus. I called Comcast back after waiting for over 30 minutes for someone to help and yes, indeedie it's comcast ad space by any ad company willing to pay for space and this Comcast rep. said he would send me to some specialist at Comcat to remove it. I waited another 30 minutes and no one came back on the line. I have had it with Comcast and they are nothing but a money hungry moochers. Now have you noticed if you have more than one tv and you got that little digital box for your second tv you will be paying another 1.99 for it a month and this started on January 1, 2013. Originally they said there would be no charge for this box for a second tv but if you had more tv's in other rooms you would be charged. I'm sick and disgusted how they nickel and dime you to death. I'm tired of their lousy customer service that they are allowed to put you on hold and forget about you and sending a message like the last rep did to me that they had no intentions of helping me get rid of that blinking stinking red light. The blinking light is to annoy you so you keep clicking on it and kaching more money for Comcast.
01-13-2013 12:27 PM
Comcast I'm am so done with your dictatorship of ads after ads I don't want. I hope the fall of Comcast hits hard, as this company deserves it.
01-13-2013 12:28 PM
Change cable company or go to yahoo. They don't dictate to you.

Thanks Carole. This thread has gotten a bit off track, as it was strated regarding the Xfinify video news feeds that make you watch a video ad (usually the same friggin ad over and over) before each article.
As for email ads, there is also another thread (below) that at least gets rid of the ad box on the right end of your email window. I have done this "opt out" process and it does work.
01-13-2013 02:37 PM
One other point. You would think that with all of these threads continuing to pop up about annoying ads from customers, Comcast would get the very loud hint.
01-13-2013 04:15 PM
Probably to much revenue to turn down. I even saw ads on a PBS site video at the start of it that didn't allow you to fast forward. But one of them was for a PBS show.
Seems to be the standard nowadays on all sites.

I can see by all the comments posted here that there are many who dislike all the advertising on the Comcast web site. I strongly agree that this is very annoying, especially the roll over advertising. These folks have figured it out that most of the users must be right handed and many will inadvertently roll the cursor over an advertisement. I have chosen to pick another page for my browser home page because I'm so sick of Comcast. I find it interesting that they aren't responding with any reasonable answers which is the same as saying "tough, get used to it."
01-18-2013 06:41 PM
I had a blinking yellow, green and red light in a box and when you clicked on it it was an advertisement for another email site which I don't have. I looked everywhere to delete it and you couldn't. I called Comcast and the rep said it should go to Norton and when I spoke to a rep at Norton he told me it was Comcast's ad and they get paid everytime you click on any ad. COMCAST GET'S PAID. The next day the blinking light was all red and blinking very fast in the box and I called Comcast to get rid of it and the rep said I needed to talk to high tech who could delete it for me. He put me on hold for 20 minutes and never came back to me. I'm sick and tired of getting the run around with Comcast and I was going to report this to the FCC. I pay for the Internet and email and Comcast has no right on my email page putting anything there including ads. Finally the next day after I complained in writing and emailing the complaint it was gone.
01-18-2013 06:42 PM
They have removed the blinking red box that when you click on it you were directed to an ad..

01-20-2013 11:07 AM
Again it begs the question: Why are you even going to web pages you don't like?
01-20-2013 11:20 AM
EXACTLY!!
01-22-2013 06:28 PM
Don;t force us to watch ads.Takes to long to download.
01-22-2013 07:44 PM
The point some of us are trying to make is this. We are paying customers, not random-joe-public. We should have a home page, and an email service free of unwanted ads
If Comcast wants a "public" website that they can bombard users with ads, like Yahoo and YouTube, then fine, but it should not be COMCAST.NET used for customers. They should open a separate ComcastPublic.Net (or whatever), and let us paying customers have a little peace, free of ads.
01-22-2013 08:50 PM
I am just saying that Comcast does whatever they want. If you don't like their page, go somewhere you do like. Stop expecting them to change, they won't.
01-23-2013 06:44 PM
This thread got a little off tangent. It originally started with the orignial posting talking about ads on videos. Someone started posting about ads on a webpage.
01-24-2013 12:40 AM
Best thing to do is pick a homepage you like. I think some people are under the impression that you must start out your Internet browsing sesswebsite your ISP's website. If you want to check your email use an email client like outlook, outlook express (which comes with most versions of windows) or any other email client. With an email client you don't even have to log in each time you wanna read email, who wants to log in every time.

Helpful post, thank you.![]()
But, you mentioned Outlook Express to use for email. Outlook Express is no longer supported by Microsoft, so no security or any other updates for it.
Anyone wanting to switch to a free email client may want to consider:
Windows Live Mail
Thunderbird
GMail

I think if we want to stop the annoying adds (many of the same ones over and over) We should, and I did, contact the company paying for the add and tell them , your adds on Comcast are so annoying I would not even consider coming to you.
01-25-2013 08:12 PM
My complaints lie in the fact that I am a paying customer, and should not be subjected to unwanted ads like I might expect with free services like Yahoo or Google. I have figured out how to get rid of them within email (there is an opt out option in the profile), but not video news (which is why I started this thread).
Many have said, "Comcast does not care, so just go elsewhere.". This may be true, but if no one complains there is no chance of change. If enough customers complain loud enough, and long enough, companies will eventually come to their senses. (Bank Of America wanting standard monthly ATM fees as a case in point.) So if we don't complain about poor services from whom ever, we will certainly be treated like cattle to be milked. I actually like Comcast email and home page in general, I just hate any forced ads. I will continue to complain until they fix it, or I decide to change my Internet service provider.
01-28-2013 12:41 AM
OK, I have to watch ads, but when I just want to catch what I missed on another device and want to fast forward to a point in the show, don't make me watch ads to start the video, and then force me to watch the same ads again when I click through to a different starting point in the program. And with some of your content being rebroadcast from Hulu, you might ask them to get better sponsors than radical activist organizations like Earth First. Millions are unemployed, poverty is rampant, people are dying, and those people hire lawyers to stop economic development actually ADDING to human misery! Heck, next we'll see ads for GUN companies...
01-29-2013 05:56 PM
I not only don't want to watch ads, I ABSOLUTELY don't want to watch sexual or bordering on pornographic ads. I only have internet and email, and have to see fairly explicit items on my homepage when it opens and then see an add just to login my email! I don't have tv or cable for A REASON!!! And I sure don't appreciate having my children having to see them when they just want to check their email! There was just an ad with the naked back of a black woman with a white womans head who looked dead. I think it was for Deception? Definately not something I needed in my brain! Is there any way to turn this stuff off??? I went and opted out of all advertisers, but what do you know? One of them didn't accept it! And Comcast is not on the list so I can't opt out of their ads! FRUSTRATING!
01-29-2013 06:18 PM
It has been said here too many times to count. Stop going to web pages you don't like!!! There are ways to get your mail without going to Comcasts page.
01-29-2013 06:34 PM
Can you tell me how? I know I don't have to have them on my home page, but this was on the email sign in page.
01-29-2013 06:43 PM
Use an E-mail client such as Outlook,Thunderbird or Apple Mail. They connect easily to your comcast mail account and are much better to use.
01-29-2013 06:59 PM
THANKS, I had no idea!

There are also several add-on programs to block ads on websites. I use fanboy. Seems to get most of the ads on all sites.
Look for adblocker add on.
