I use Internet Explorer and Comcast as my home page. As far as "inappropiate content" is concerned I apologize if using the expression "sucks" hurt anyone's feelings. I find it a waste of my time to have to search out the X to close the Rollover Pop-Up !!!

Ghostery is a browser tool available for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer. It scans the page for scripts, pixels, and other elements and notifies the user of the companies whose code is present on the page. These page elements aren't otherwise visible to the user, and often not detailed in the page source code. Ghostery allows users to learn more about these companies and their practices, and block the page elements from loading if the user chooses.
I choose to block ads

Did someone complain about inappropriate content? I don't see it.
I just went to the Comcast home page and tried hovering over everything, and never got a pop-up.

I went to look and was asked to participate in a survey. I decided to take the time and participated. My one thing to change was to remove the ads and particularly flashing ones. I'm getting an ad for a local antique mall; the ad has scrolling parts but doesn't flash. And there's a banner ad for the Summer Olympics.
I'm not getting pop-up ads on the main Comcast page in any browser. I don't have anything special installed in the browsers I tried (Chrome, Firefox).
I normally use OmniWeb and block most images, but the Comcast site won't load in that. I've given up on trying since I don't use the Comcast main site except to check on things for the help forum.

Was this problem ever solved?

No, Comcast is not going to remove those roll over ads which bring them revenue.

Has anyone come up with a way to block them from opening? I am currently using Adfender. It works but slows things down. Thanks.

Try this link: http://xfinity.comcast.net/adinformation/. Also- if you use the Firefox browser, you can download the Ad Blocker Plus Add-On to block ads.
Need Email Help? Please post the following information in your post.
Do you use XfinityConnect? The Full or Lite version?
Do you use an email client? Which one? (Eg; Windows Live mail, Outlook, a smartphone etc.)
Which browser/version do you use? And- have you cleared your browser cache?
Which operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X
Details of the problem you are having.

Thanks. I keep reading about Firefox & Ad Block but I use IE 8 on a Xp system. Tried Simple AdBlock but didn't do a thing. So far Adfender stops them but I am not sure if it is that or some entries made into the inprivate filtering and restricted site areas.

Do try the link I provided as well.

I looked at that. It only applies to zip code specific ads and ads in the Comcast e-mail. If you stop them for your zip code you still get them for other areas. Thanks.

These ads on Comcast.com are beyond annoying. You cannot move your pointer never them or they open up. Then you close it and try again. many times it opens again.

I do not like the rollover ads that open up when you accidentally move your cursor over them. It obscures my view of what I'm reading and then I have to go and close the ad.
What a pain!
If I want to open an ad and read further I will but don't shove it in my face.

I really get annoyed and ticked off when just by moving my mouse some ad begins their sing-song commercial on the X-finity home page or any other site. This is an unwanted and unwarranted interruption to my internet experience. At one time we were able to block ad pop-ups. What happened?

Rollover Pop-up Ads need to go away! Ads between every video need to go away! It's like you're pushing resons for me to sign-up for Dish more & more!
08-18-2012 11:35 AM
Are you sure Dish doesn't have ads on their homepage and in their videos?
08-25-2012 07:21 AM
There are way too many ads, so much so that they are annoying and distracting when trying to read the news. Knowing they won't be removed, please at least get rid of the ones that "explode" on the screen when the mouse passes over it!

i have read 22 messages/complaints about this topic. i have not yet gotten an answer to the question - can comcast continue to subject me to these ads whether i like it or not?

I find it very annoying to have to close those ads that pop up just because I accidentally roll over them.

If you go to the Comcast pages, you are stuck with the ads. It is a marketing decision, not a technical issue. The options are use ad-blocking software, or use another site as your home page. With the incredible variety of content on the web, I see no reason to ever visit a Comcast site unless I absolutely need to access a service that is not available elsewhere. I use Google News as my home page.
