Been happening to me for the last couple days as well. 64-bit Windows 7. Happens on Chrome, Firefox, and IE9. Uninstalled/reinstalled Silverlight , no change. Same computer has had no problem frequently playing content from this site prior to this weekend.
06-05-2012 07:03 PM
I'm having the exact same problem. Have not had issues streaming until this past week and my system meets all requirements. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I get the "upgrade Silverlight" message everytime I try to stream Showtime or HBO content. I have tried every combination mentioned when it comes to restarting, reinstalling, updating, uninstalling, reinstalling again, using every browser available. Still not working. I've been hoping that Comcast would fix the bug in the past few days, but am getting frustrated and impatient. Please help!
Thanks,
Dani

Thanks for your quick response. I am reluctant to install another browser as I had trouble (different trouble from this one) some time ago with Crome. I realize troubleshooting any system should begin with finding out what works first and then work backwards. Perhaps this additional information will help: Xfinity works for "Watch Xfinity TV Online", but it does not for the IE Home Page News side bar. For example, "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show" results in the following message when it is attempted to watch these videos.
Xfinity Screen: Your almost ready to watch ...
Please upgrade your Microsoft Silverlight plug-in to begin watching the video.
When the Upgrade button is pressed, the message appears that the PC is not compatible with the upgrade.
Rebooting (clean boot) has no affect on these results.
Please note. I have two PCs on my network and the problem is the same. Check the internet and you will see that this problem exists throughout your customer base. Not good for the advertisers. I would think there is something in Microsoft's or your software that is causing this incompatibility problem with version 5.1.10516.0. You can only download version 5.1.10411.0 from Microsoft. I am not an expert in network software. I am lost from this point on. I intend to remain a customer even though I may not be able to use Xfinity to its fullest.

I installed probably 20 times through Firefox and Chrome, and always the same message that it needed to be upgraded. I finally upgraded it through Internet Explorer and all other browsers can now use the latest plug-in. I think having IE open kept the old plug-in in use and it wasn't getting overwritten. so, just use IE to upgrade and it will work in Chrome and FF.
06-05-2012 08:44 PM
I cannot download that version. it will not load. I only receive 5.1.10411.0 IE / chrome / Firefox.
06-05-2012 09:20 PM
Same as the above. Don't have showtime, but this problem only occurs when I try to watch HBO content. Seriously frustrating considering I pay for it.
Been several days for me as well (chrome 64-bit on windows 7, silverlight 64 bit on autoupdate - originally downloaded thru comcast)
Says I'm up to date and silverlight installer won't give any more details. Cleared cache, uninstall/reinstall, different browsers, what have you. Everything I've tried will play except HBO.
06-05-2012 09:29 PM
Yeah, I just tried to do this on IE 9, and it won't even let me download theupgraded silverlight. The unsupported browser-type message below pops up. what version of IE were you using??
Upgrade your Xfinity Player!
In order to watch On Demand Online videos with "HD-Like" picture quality, you need to install the new Xfinity Player
We're sorry, but for watching On Demand Online videos the following browsers are NOT officially supported at this time:

Are you telling me you are not having this problem? Is your system 64bit or 32bit?
06-06-2012 12:45 AM
i haven't had an issue with movies until a couple days ago. I select the movie I want to watch and a message shows saying i need to install Microsoft silverlight. I was already installed last year. I click on upgrade and message says silverlight already installed. Why am I having this problem now?
Thank you
06-06-2012 02:07 AM
When I click that link on the Xfinity response, I get this message:
The version of Silverlight installed is:
Silverlight 5 (5.1.10411.0)
You are ready to use Microsoft Silverlight
However, I'm still not able to view any of the Game of Thrones streams.
06-06-2012 02:10 AM
I'm having this problem too. Cannot watch Game of Thrones because of this error.

Any news? What's happining? Can we have updates on the progress? Still no service. Still no help.

Silverlight works in EVERY way on my system. Has worked on xfinity until this upgrade stuff. Please fix it.

I know some of you have already did this but make sure that after installation that you are closing your browser and are also restarting the computer.
Our team is further looking into why this is happening. I will update you when I know more.

I am unable to play any of the tv shows from XFINITY TV online. It says I need to update my plugin. I have updated the player Silverlight. After installing the latest version of the software on my computer, XFINITY website does not recognize the upgrade. I have restarted my computer as well as the browser. Any helpful suggestions?
06-06-2012 08:01 PM
Same for me. Worked great until I tryed to upgrade silverlight today. I have also done everything.. Delete with Re-install, update, restart computer restart Safari, every combination.. Same "please update message." Using a new macbook pro (Intel) Latest Safari web browser. Please Fix.
06-06-2012 11:47 PM
I have Silverlight 5.1.10411.0 installed on my machine. Xfinity .com (movies) says I need to upgrade. There IS NOTHING to upgrade to. How do I solve this contretemps ? I just want to watch a movie on occasion (for which I am already paying monthly, and have been for some time). I'll await your answer.

I am running Windows Vista SP2 64-bit, and my system meets the requirements for the Silverlight plugin. I have both the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome installed.
I frequently stream videos on my laptop with Comcast without any problems. This is my first time having any issues.
Playing a video prompts me to install the latest version of Silverlight. When I tried to use the provided installer, it said 64-bit version is not compatible with my system, so I downloaded the latest 32-bit version from the Microsoft Silverlight website.
I restarted Firefox and made sure the plugin was installed, but the video still prompted me to update to the latest Silverlight. I also tried it in Chrome, but that didn't work either.
06-07-2012 12:14 AM
I'm having the same problem. I even tried the 32 bit version and it installed but when I try to play xfinity videos I get the same prompt to update my Silverlight; Hulu videos play just fine though. I tried using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox and it won't even let me sign in, the page just refreshes blank like I never typed anything. I have no idea why it won't work or how to fix it but am getting very frustrated.
06-07-2012 01:40 AM
Ths installer provided by Comcast is the 64-bit version of Silverlight, which is incompatible with the Windows Vista SP2 64-bit operating system.
I just chatted online with "Tech Expert" Mark. He should be fired.
06-07-2012 02:59 PM
Figured it out. Here is what worked for me on my system (Macbook Pro) Running Safari. You need to uninstall Silverlight first. Relatively easy. 1. Click open the Macintosh HD icon. select Library. select internet plug-ins folder. move silverlight plugin to trash. 2. Download and install the Silverlight update from the Comcast website only. restart safari.
06-07-2012 05:12 PM
I did the same thing as JPN above and installed it on Internet Explorer, it appears to work on firefox now. I had the same problem only "premium" content was being troublesome.

It seems as though a lot of people are having this same problem but none of the provided solutions have worked.
Everytime I try to watch a premium channel video, I get the following message:
You're almost ready to watch [Show Title] Please upgrade your Microsoft Silverlight plug-in to begin watching this video.
I am using Safari Version 5.1.7 and have Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
and when I go to the Microsoft Silverlight website, it verifies that I have the up-to-date version installed:
"The version of Silverlight installed is: Silverlight 5 (5.1.10411.0)"
I have uninstalled silverlight by removing the internet plug in. Reinstalled it, restarted my computer, restared my browser, etc. Nothing seems to work.
I have tried xfinity with Firefox and chrome, nothing seems to work.
I have called comcast and they have elevated my issue to a higher office which was supposed to call me back and never did.
06-07-2012 09:34 PM
Ok, I got it to work!!!
1. In Chrome deleted cookies and cache.
2. Uninstalled Silverlight.
3. Deleted cookies and cache again.
4. From the Comcast site player prompt, download and install again.
5. Hit refresh when install finished.
6. Video loaded!
This may have been a fluke but I tried many different things before this worked. I hope it works for you all. Having this down for 2 weeks has been a pain.
Good luck!

I'm having the exact same issue for Game of Thrones...I've uninstalled and re-installed Silverlight and still can't watch it. It's rather frustrating....Anyone know what's going on?
06-08-2012 02:25 PM
Same issue.
06-08-2012 02:56 PM
Thanks! This worked!

So this problem also started for me about a week ago. Already tried the solutions posted here; they have not worked for me.
So when trying to play HBO/Showtime content, xfinity asks me to update. The version I have is 5.1.10411.0. I've uninstalled, then tried to re-install from xfinity, but what happens is that I can download the installer, but everytime I try to actually install, it says "Installation failed." This same installation failure happens when I try to re-install from Netflix or microsoft's site. The only way I can successfully re-install is going throug Window's update. After installing, I can watch Netflix stuff, but still can't watch Xfinity.
Help would be appreciated.

I have Vista 64, with which silverlight 64 is not compatable. Your installer will only install silverlight 64, which will not install. If your silverlight patch is indeed different from the one from Microsoft, there is no way for anyone with Vista 64 to use it. I have a hunch that the lastest version of silverlight, whether x86 or 64 should work. I have the latest of 32-bit silverlight. Your site still does not work. It continues to demand an upgrade to the most recent silverlight, despite having the most recent silverlight. This is clearly an xfinity issue.
06-09-2012 11:46 PM
Why hasnt xfinity made a fix to this yet?
A million people are needing help with it and i have YET to see a fix in any response.
06-09-2012 11:49 PM
Are you serious with this help? Do you work for xfinity?

the post above by cort503 worked in google chrome......I finally get to catch up on Game of Throwns. Thanks
06-10-2012 04:19 PM
Just wanted to re-iterate that the solution posted by cort503 did not work for me (though I am glad it works for some of you - lucky).
Also meant to say that I'm on Windows 7, 64bit.

I have the same issue. I tried the link you gavet o microsoft..it does not work;

I have google chrome and did as you indicated. I upgraded silverlight in IE. It now works on Chrome. Thanks!

Joe,
This has been going on for over a week now, is there any chance of this being fixed? It's getting ridiculous, every other silverlight site seems to work. How can we have the massive amounts of money we pay to Comcast for this service refunded?
06-11-2012 03:30 PM
I just tried it with chrome, still does not work.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled silverlight numerous times.

I'm having the same issue. I'm trying to watch with Mac & Safari browser. I get a message that I need to download Silverlight, which I've done numerous times. I've also verified that Silverlight, latest version, was downloaded correctly. I still get the error message on xfinity that I need to download Silverlight. I give up. I only watch 2 tv shows - Madmen and Masterpiece. I can watch Masterpiece online on their website without this headache. So, why do I need comcast tv at all??
06-12-2012 08:11 AM
I just got this message: Please upgrade your Microsoft Silverlight plug-in to begin watching this video. I downloaded it and restarted my computer and attempted to watch a show and then I got this message again. I repeated the process and continued to get the same message. What am I doing wrong?
06-12-2012 02:13 PM
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Silverlight at least 15 times and I stilll can't watch "True Blood". I have restarted the browser, the computer, cleared my cache, checked the plug in, DRM is enabled and I still can't get the video to play. Please Help! I have a Mac OS X running 10.6.8

The title says it all. I have installed and re-installed Silverlight 5.1.10411.0 several times and the notice will not stop showing up. What must be done to pacify this recalcitrant piece of dreck?

I am having the same issue with Silverlight. I am running a 64bit OS, tried different browsers, made sure everything was enabled and updated. However when I try to watch anything it says I still need to update my Silverlight (I am running the latest version of Silverlight v5.1) and restart my browser. Very frustrating!

Hi all,
Please make sure you do the following if you are having this issue:
Reset your computer after installation: Make sure that you are rebooting your computer after you update your Silverlight Player.
Mac users who are using Chrome: Silverlight does not officially support Chrome users who are on Macs but Silverlight does work. Because of this however, you may not be prompted to upgrade. Please download the patch here. This download will work on Macs only.
64-bit support: 64-bit is only supported for Windows 7 users who are using Internet Explorer 9. Users who are attempting to run 64-bit with any other combination of Windows and IE will not be able to install the required 5.1.10516 version of Silverlight to watch videos on Xfinity. Please use the 32-bit versions of IE.
Thanks,
Joe

ComcastJoe-- Unfortunately, I think we have all done these things, and have gathered all of that info over the past week(+), and still are not having any luck. Is it not possible that with so many people experiencing this problem, that perhaps this is on Comcast's end? I'm at a loss and am getting frustrated reading the same instruction over and over that does not solve the problem. Please help. I really don't wish to take my business elsewhere.

If your site does not work with Webkit or Gecko, that's a problem. There is a major compatability issue with your website. It is not compatable with the two most widely used browsers on the planet, in 32bit mode. That should be in every single piece of advertising for Xfinity, will not work with Macs, or any version of Windows other than 7.
Also, just so you know. I tried it in IE 32, and when I try to log in , it says "Sorry, we couldn't find that page".
06-13-2012 04:51 PM
Also, I finally got around the site and found a page with silverlight, using IE9. And, it says "You're almost ready to watch, please upgrade your silverlight plugin to begin watching this video."
What exactly is the problem? Is this happening because of the discontinuity between Vista being 64bit and silverlight being 32 bit?
