Re: Silverlight

In order to address a video streaming bug in the Silverlight plug-in, Microsoft provide us with a special updated version: 5.1.10516.0.  As of the May 31st release, we require our new users and users with existing Silverlight 5 versions to install this version.

Here are a few points to consider as well.

5.1.10516.0 is special to Xfinity

The 5.1.10516.0 version is NOT available on Microsoft's official GetSilverlight site, http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx .  If users go to the Microsoft to install they will still be asked to upgrade on our site. They must use the 5.1.10516 version we provide not the latest version on the official Microsoft site.

Must restart browser

For any Silverlight upgrade, users MUST RESTART THEIR BROWSERS! The install screen that appears after the users click "Upgrade" instructs the users to do so.  Some users may not be seeing this.

Officially unsupported OS/browsers

For certain OS/browsers that are not officially supported by Silverlight, the install link that Microsoft provided does not function properly.  It redirects to the GetSilverlight site which will not provide them with the 5.1.10516 version required.  The Mac/Chrome direct link and MS catch-all link is provided below.

For Mac 10.5.7+ / Chrome:

http://silverlight.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/5/F/4/5F4E029C-77F5-4EC7-B084-E7B180483AFF/10516...

For nearly all other cases:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=149156&v=5.1.10516.0

64-bit support

64-bit is only supported for Win7 SP1 / IE9 .  Users attempting to run 64-bit with any other combination of Windows and IE will not be able to install the required 5.1.10516 version of Silverlight to watch videos on Xfinity.  Please use 32-bit IE versions.

Thank you
Comcast Vic.

Re: Silverlight

That's still a problem.

I have Vista 64, which is NOT compatible with silverlight64, yet your website always forces me to download a 64 bit installer. Where can I find the 32 bit installer? Also, why does your site require a separate instance of silverlight? That just seems ridiculous!

Re: Silverlight

You cannot tell us 64 bit support is only provided for 7, then not provide the download for 32bit.

Re: Microsoft Silverlight problem

I, too, am having a problem apparently with Silverlight. Whenever I try to view certain programs (Hotel Inspector season 3 for example), I get the following message:

You're almost ready to watch Hotel Inspector

Please upgrade your Microsoft Silverlight plug-in to begin watching this video.

I download the supposed upgrade and re-start my browser, but continue to get the same message. Have tried numerous times. I even went to the Silverlight site and downloaded from there. Same thing.
I am using a MAC OS10.6.8 with Firefox 13.0.  Also tried Safari 5.1.7, same result.

Re: Silverlight

I do not need the installer for IE 32bit. Your silverlight installer detects that I have vista64, and automatically downloads the silverlight 64 installer. I will make this very clear for you:

I NEED THE SILVERLIGHT 32 INSTALLER!

Not one that detects my 64-bit OS and only gives me the 64-bit installer!

I'm starting to think that the responses in this forum are intentionally not helpful as a means of stalling. It has taken over two weeks to get to this point.

Try downloading Silverlight from here and see if it works:

Re: Silverlight

That installer works and I am no longer receiving the message about upgrading silverlight. The issue is resolved with this silverlight update.

I am concerned about  this silverlight patch. Is it supported by Microsoft? Will it generate compatability issues with other silverlight services? Is this an incremental update, and will Microsoft provide the full update later? Will it fit within the update cycle of silverlight? Has it been rigorously tested? Does it have security vulnerabilities? These are things normally identified in an update, you have none of them.

Re: Silverlight

This is a joke and I will be looking into canceling my services in the near future.

Comcast has provided no explanation or actual solution for the problems, simply parroting the same statement over and over again. It is a joke and the company should be embarassed. I'm going to be sure to make sure I tell everyone I possibly can not to get Comcast's service as a result of this as well.

Silverlight plug in

I installed the old silverlight. Installed the newest version restarted my computer and still nothing is playing. I have read through the forum and see that lots of people are complaining about this issue but no solutions or step by step actions have been offered other than the simple "restart your browser" suggestion. I would really appreciate some quick help and would love even more to speak with someone on the phone. I have a mac book pro and I firefox as my internet browser. Please help me fix this.

Silverlight Plug-In

Hey, I keep getting the error message "You're almost ready to watch _____. Please upgrade your Microsoft Silverlight plug-in to begin watching this video".

To start, I simply downloaded the new plugin (5.1) and I'm running 64bit windows, no big deal, still didn't work.  Deleted and uninstalled all together, no bueno.  Checked the plugin status for my Google Chrome 12, its definitely enabled.  I've restarted my computer, still not working.  Tried using Internet Explorer 9, doesn't work on there either  It plays tv shows and some movies.  The movies affected by the problem all seem to be from the premium channels (HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax).  Please help.

Re: Silverlight Plug-In

Upon further investigation...noticed that when I open the Silverlight Config Executable on my computer the version being reported is  5.1.10516.0 but the version being reported when I go to xfinitytv.com/computer is 5.1.10411.0 might this be the problem?  Maybe microsoft upgraded silverlight but comcast has not upgraded their software to recognize it? or maybe it is not being reported correctly in the browsers but I get the same result in any browser I open, I have a slew of browsers just for this purpose....Just  curious....

Can't upgrade Silverlight to watch shows on older Mac PowerPC

I uploaded one version of Silverlight on my Mac. When I attempt to watch a show, I get the message I need to upgrade, then I get the message that only Silverlight 1.0 is available for the Mac PowerPC. Help!!! I don't want to buy a new computer at this time.

Re: Silverlight

Wow, this is pretty substandard customer service. My guess is Comcast has cut a deal with Microsoft and is trying to shoehorn IE9 into users hands. That is a silly business decision.

That was the PC download, sorry, I am on a Mac. Also, the Mac is the new macbook pro retina display if that means anything. I had the streaming service working, then all of a sudden it stopped. I tried all the uninstalling and installing methods, I just have no idea. If there is a mac download link to the one you posted maybe that would help. Thanks.

Uninstalled 64-bit silverlight & installed one from link below & it worked for me.  Now how come the video quality of The Daily Show is so much worse when watching it via comcast.net then when watching it eithver via HULU or thedailyshow.com?

so this is what I did to fix this issue:

I created a folder called plugins in: C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application

it contains silverlight data, this is a fix for Google Chrome only.

here is a link to the folder.

you will have to unzip it.  Download here

Re: Silverlight

[ Edited ]

I figured out my problem, probably not applicable to many people though. I have simply been unable to install the new Silverlight, though I was able to download the installation package. I got a bug some months back that switched a bunch of my files to hidden. Just today realized that one of those files was "AppData". All I had to do then was turn on the "include hidden files" in the search for programs and files, click into AppData properties, and turn off the hidden switch (and read-only). Installation of the new Silverlight went through in seconds. It was nice to watch The Wire again (was on my third viewing of the show when I was stopped).

Want to thank comatose1978 for pointing me in the right direction.

Re: Silverlight

There seems to be a lot of ranting and raving going on in this thread, so I'm going to try to avoid doing that, but this really is unacceptable.  I have had no problems streaming content from xfinity ever since I got your service, but then over the past week or two I've noticed that whenever I try to stream content from HBO I've been getting the bewildering message that I'm almost ready to watch my content, but I just need to update my silverlight installation (with a link to the Microsoft silverlight download page).  When I follow that link, Microsoft tells me that my installation of silverlight is up to date!  I'm able to watch content from all other providers that use silverlight (e.g. netflix) without a problem, and non-HBO content still streams fine on the xfinity website.

Then after hours of forum scouring I find this solution provided by Comcast Vic (with the direct link to Silverlight 5.1.10516.0), which DOES work, but is completely unacceptable in its implementation.  If you are going to require a special version of silverlight that microsoft has not released to the public to watch streaming content through xfinity, you need a better (and I use the word better loosly - you really have NO way of informing your customers of this) way to distribute your special silverlight implementation.  Simply directing your customers to the official microsoft silverlight website, where the actual version of silverlight that you require is not available clearly does not work.

I was honestly on the verge of cancelling my xfinity service over this issue before finding this solution, as all forms of phone support were completely useless and had no idea as to how to resolve this issue.  And although I'm keeping my xfinity service for now, this issue and the quality of support I've received through it make me far more likely to not recommend comcast to my friends in the future and less likely to keep my service in the future over even a minor issue as this has put such a sour taste in my mouth.

So basically Comcast Vic and Comcast Joe - get your stuff together.  Make sure the files needed to use the services you provide are readily available and easy to find, and you don't leave your customers stuck in some sort of catch-22 loop where they can't use the services they're paying for.

Please see the post marked as the solution for further instructions.

yea123:

It still shows that you have an older version of Silverlight installed. You need to have the version I posted above installed after you remove the current version you have now. Please go here and make sure that you are uninstalling it correctly:

Re: Microsoft Silverlight issue

I am having the exact same issue. Even though there is a current version of Silver light on my computer the same message continues to appear to upgrade my Silver light. I was able to at least watch the earlier episodes of He$$ on Wheels and now I am unable to view any episodes because of the error. What I dont understand is why only some shows and not others. I am unable to view Breaking Bad and Copper as well but I am able to view Revolution new pilot and other shows. This doesn't make since to me.
