Another echo, I was looking forward to using HBO Go on my XBox and am now disappointed. The Xfinity app does have some value to me since I was accessing cable through a CableCard device and didn't have OnDemand available, but it's a small consolation.
Going to withhold judgement on who I'm disappointed with, as I know how this business works. It's pretty likely that one of two things (or both) is going on:
1. HBO considers Xbox/Roku to be a "TV class" device rather than "Mobile/Computer" and is asking for additional/higher licesnsing fees per customer (perhaps per all HBO customers). For a network the size of Comcast this would be substantial.
2. HBO realizes the additional traffic they would get from all these users and wants Comcast to share the costs in building out the server farm to support this traffic.
In either of these cases it comes down to price, and I imagine the discussion (read: agreeing on a price) is ongoing (see the tweets from @xfinity_tv on "discussions").

Okay folks, get this...
I just called Comcast's Xbox support (877-599-1846), and after professionally voicing my frustration, the guy on the phone told me that HBO GO will be available to us on a "delayed release" next week.
I was skeptical, so I pressed him on the countless news articles to the contrary and he told me flat out that they got a memo yesterday that it will be rolled out next week.
I am still a little skeptical, so I encourage you all to call 877-599-1846, voice frustration, and see what sort of news you can gather.
I hope this is true. Perhaps a good sign is me finally being able to get into the Xfinity app.
Report back here if you get any news or can backup what the guy told me.

HBO Go has way more content.
03-29-2012 05:43 PM
Thanks for the update! Hopefully they're true to their word and we have access by next week.
03-29-2012 07:15 PM
joe the Xfinity app is junk compared to hbogo and if you guys dont support hbogo on xbox you will be losing this customer
03-29-2012 09:57 PM
I just switched from directv because it was getting highly expensive. Not only does comcast's hd suck, they don't offer hbogo on my xbox? Furthermore, the guide is as old as dinosaurs on my box. Update it already! If this doesn't getting fixed, I'm going back to a REAL provider.
03-29-2012 11:50 PM
I echo what many have seen here. I feel unserved and ripped off as a Comcast customer. I pay them $230+ a month and they're offerings on "on demand" or via xbox are pathetic. HBO has a great back catalogue, if comcast do not offer it through xbox I am off somewhere else.

i have a question about some movies and tv shows. if im not subscribed to a premium network, will it prevent me from watching it until i get that subscription? or will it charge me without warning?
Also theres some shows on here that says free w/ subscription until 2/15. am i able to watch that or will it charge me because the date is 3/30?

They dont understand that it is not the same. It is very tempting to change to a better service.
03-30-2012 08:33 AM
Hey comcastjoe,
you ever gonna post on this thread again? Or just pretend like none of this is actually happening? Like we will just give up being outright denied services THAT WE PAY FOR! I never wanted comcast in the first place, but we decided to give it a shot after being offered a great deal when moving into a new place. Then this. THIS IS THE EXACT REASON WHY I DIDN'T WANT IT! Comcast is constantly pulling scams like this on their customers.Just take a look at the xfinity facebook page. Besides posts that comcast put up themselves, their entire wall is blasted with customers complaining about hbo go. Thats some great marketings right there!
Giving us HBO GO on xbox is the exact same as having it on my ipad. Its ridiculous that companies like RCN and WOW cable are on board with this, and one of the biggest cable companies in the nation isn't. Way to go comcast, if this isn't fixed by our next billing cycle, count us as another customer lost.
Waiting on your response comcastjoe.

There's nothing new we can report at this time. Comcast and HBO are in discussions to increase HBOGO access for our customers. There's no ETA on this, but we'll post as we know more. Please follow this thread for updates.

Yes, you are correct
"some shows on here that says free w/ subscription until 2/15. am i able to watch that or will it charge me because the date is 3/30?"
If a HBO show for example says free with subscription, that means if you have a HBO subscription, you can watch that movie for no additional cost.
Thanks,

Can you respond to the rumors posted in this very thread that you tell us to keep checking that customers have talked to Comcast representatives who say that HBO Go will be rolling out to customers in the next week? Or is that as much BS as these copy and paste responses that you are giving?
03-30-2012 09:44 AM
tommygoons, I understand your frustration, but please be patient. Any information about roll out plans or dates is purely speculation at this point. All we know is that Comcast and HBO are in discussions to increase HBOGO access. We'll post when we know more.
thanks.

Joe.... so wouldn't it make sense to provide customers who have xbox 360, rokus & Samsung tv's a moderate discount considering we cannot utilize features for these devices. like others have said we feel as though we are paying more for hbo than subscribers of another provider where they infact are given this opportunity.
...... again i think our comcast accounts should be credited up until the point this is resolved.

I don't know how you can put in your post to "be patient". I was patient ComcastEric, for months, when the HBO GO app was initially announced. It was completely unprofessional to withhold the information that comcast would not support the App until after it was launched. And I've also been patient since the launch of the app for some kind of press release from Comcast itself adressing the issue in any way. Instead we got posts on this forum saying we launched an xfinity app, which was not an acceptable response. So patience, no, sorry, I'm all outta that. So these responses where you keep telling us to wait are ludicrous.
P.s.- Changing your facebook page to the new timeline format overnight last night was a sneaky move. It makes it harder for users to see just how bombarded your wall was with upset customers, because that was all that it was yesterday. Just another tactic to try and cover this fiasco up.
Waiting on you again ComcastEric, or ComcastJoe.

Eric, speculation by your own company representative? Sounds like a real upstanding company you have there. Check your memo's, maybe you missed the memo that he told me he received regarding the "delayed rollout" of the HBO GO app next week. I can understand if you simply cannot comment here on the web, but don't call it speculation when you have Comcast employees telling their paying customers with certainty that it will be released. Unless you are telling me that he was lying to me? Either way, this is no way to treat customers who pay A LOT of money to your company.
Again people, call Comcast's Xbox support department and demand answers and see if you can get them to tell you about the memo that they reportedly received a few days ago. The number is 1-877-599-1846.
03-30-2012 12:38 PM
I just give my input to Comcast regarding this issue, and this was the response.
"Maria Catherine: Jacob, I checked on our recent updates and currently the HBOgo via the Xbox is not yet available. There is no ETA as to when will we have it available but rest assured that our content and development team are already working on this.
Jacob: So it is something that will be available, but at this point we just don't know when?
Maria Catherine: Yes you are correct. We are already working on having that available to comcast subscribers but currently there is no exact time as to when."
Hopefully this information is correct, and Eric can provide more information as to when it will be available.

they should have been working on this months ago when it was announced that sounds like a lie......i think they're just waiting for this to blow over......according to people i've been talking to they were told that the HBOgo for the roku was to be rolled out by christmas obviously that never happenned......i think they're playing the same mind games again....

Yeah unless they are reacting to the complaints if they were gojng to do it we would have it already.
03-30-2012 01:15 PM
i decided to get HBO because they would have the HBOGO app on Xbox Live.... now i can't use it because of Comcast? I hope the rumors above are correct and they roll out ASAP...
03-30-2012 04:38 PM
I'm absolutely deflated and livid at this. First, the XFinity app has only a fraction of the content of HBO Go. It is NOT a replacement.
Second, there was NO mention of this not being available when I subscribed to HBO JUST FOR THIS REASON this month even though I mentioned why I was doing it. It never even occurred to me that Comcast, of all providers, would not support the HBO Go app. I'm literally astounded and bewildered.
This is simply the last straw. And it's a HUGE straw. If this isn't resolved within a couple of weeks (before my next bill is due at around $200) and the HBO Go app made available to comcast customers, I WILL be going to UVerse. It's as simple as that.

comcastEric, By Increase access do you mean they are trying to get more HBO content available on xfinity?
or do you mean they are talking about giving access to the hbogo app?
03-30-2012 05:49 PM
Ditto, just posted on Xfinity Facebook page. Keep it going.
03-30-2012 06:05 PM
So Comcast is discussion with HBO about this problem, great Im so happy since these are the same talks that Comcast had with HBO about ROKU getting access. We all know how well that worked out
03-30-2012 06:42 PM
Can I watch every episode of any HBO show like I can on HBO GO?
03-30-2012 08:06 PM
They support HBO GO online, on Android and on Apple products! Just not xBox and Rocu
03-30-2012 08:10 PM
How about just allowing us access to HBO GO on the xBox?

Dear Comcast/xfinity,
I pay for HD cable tv, 2 DVRs, HBO, your fastest internet and xBox live gold(not to mention the xBox 360 itself and my 47" tv) and you won't allow me to use the HBO GO app!..........Why?!
I want access to ALL of the content that HBO GO offers through your on demand service. I also want you to stop blocking access to the HBO GO xBox 360 app......NOW!
Please provide at least one if not both of these services!
Yours truly, ANOTHER UNHAPPY CUSTOMER

Perhaps if enough people do complain comcast can be made to change like BIOWARE did with Mass Effect 3 ending. Bioware is going to change the ending of the game because they got so much negative responses. This needs to go on youtube twitter facebook myspace what ever.
If i had access to the service i would do a video showing the differences between the 2 apps. Try to get a news outlet to cover it.
Be warned though Comcast does still have the caps and will most likely start to strictly enforce it. There have been many folks who have been cut off for going over the low 250GB limit.
I dropped cable but still get my Phillies baseball through the MLB.tv app which is awsome BTW.
I payed what amounts to one months fees from comcast for an entire year of MLB.tv and i also get access on my mobile devices.
I dont buy into the whole thought of if HBO offered this outside of cable providers HBO would suffer. The reason is without HBO why would MOST people even get cable? People get cable for the promos offered which most times offeres HBO free for 6 to 12 months.
Ide wager if people didnt have this option people would not get the cadillac plans.
May I point you all to this Video on youtube about Comcasts Internet policy on the 250GB Limit.

My guess is they are telling us they are working on it so we don't drop them. They hope that within a couple weeks or a month the furor dies down and we forget so they don't have to make good on their promises. Classic stalling tactic. Classic Comcast tactic.
They knew they were screwing us over and we would be very upset, they'd have to be complete idiots to have not predicted this response. What a shocker, people who pay for HBO actually want access to it!
First chance I get I'm dropping Comcast. Unlike most people I won't forget them lying and screwing me over.

I have been a subsriber with comcast for years, and have never had an issue with their service.
That being said, this situation is absolutley ridiculous. I don't like satellitle; I don't want sattelite. But if that's what I need to get to have access to HBO Go on my TV, I will switch.
Honestly, I'm paying close to $20 a month just for HBO, and close to $200 total for comcast's services. You need to fix this sooner rather than later, or I will switch.
03-31-2012 06:35 AM
Adding another voice to this near deafening din.
I cancelled cable TV completely when Hulu launched on Xbox live. (Keeping my internet, of course.) Why pay $50 when I can pay $8? I came back with a limited tv package once I learned of HBOGO on 360 because I feel HBO's programming is worth it and the ease of access made it attractive.
Understand that things are changing and changing quickly. HBO used to need you to provide its content. It doesn't anymore, and eventually the contracts binding them to you will lapse.
If it is decided that Comcast will not support HBO GO on Xbox, I too will cancel services after 8 years of loyalty and go with a company who will allow access to content how I choose, not how they choose.
03-31-2012 10:33 AM
I agree. We are being limited by Comcast. I am paying for a service that is being restricted. I think we should look into a class action law suit.

I'm not trying to defent comcast, I am seriously enraged about this issue..... However, it should be said, that if you watch HBO content on their "on demand" or xfinity app on xbox, there are no commercials (this is only true for the content of their "premium" channels, everything else has commercials) Which further begs the question of why they aren't allowing the HBOgo app for xbox. It doesn't make any sense.
03-31-2012 12:46 PM
Comcast, do not think for one split second that we will all give in or forget about what is going on here!!
You're constant disregard for customer satisfaction is absolutely insulting to everyone that works hard for their money and hands it over to you every month. Did you not learn your lesson about pulling a fast one one your customers when you were busted for intentionally slowing P2P connections?
That is just the one we know about! Who knows how many other crooked things you're doing to put one over on the average working individual.
It's bad enough that we have to spend a 1/3 of our lives working but spending the money we make from that 1/3 on your services, only to get duped like this is infuriating!

Still waiting and getting more angry each day. I've been watch HBO Go thru my PC just to limit the use of your app! I can cancel anytime since, I'm a 30+ year customer. I need to start seeing some action from these discussions if you wish to keep this customer! I recently changed my phone service from it's 15+ year contract do I need to do the same for Comcast?
03-31-2012 03:40 PM
I am extremely frustrated that Comcast has blocked HBO GO access on the XBOX for HBO subscribers. Has anyone found a way to make it work?
If not, I beleieve everyone who is impacted by this limited access should file a complaint. Just for reference here are the other cable providers that do allow HBO subscribers to access HBO GO via XBOX
