There is almost always a bottleneck in networks at the point where the traffic enters and exits the LAN. This is simply networking 101 and I expect traffic within Comcast's network to be faster than my connection to Netflix...it's not an evil tactic or anything like that. It's the same reason why network traffic from my Xbox to my PC is faster than traffic from my Xbox to Comcast. I have a 1GB router in my house but a 20meg connection to Comcast. Obviously a bottleneck exists (aka backplane blocking).
Huzzah for the NYT article. I guess the customer base wasn't big enough on Roku/Samsung to make Comcast change its ways. Also, what a smart move on HBO's part to do this when Game of Thrones is on which is certainly when they have the most subscribers.
Comcast: We care about the customers....eventually.
This is simply not true. The network has nothing to do with this decision. Greed and their stupid Xfinity app is the only reason you aren't able to access HBO Go.
I've had enough, I don't care if they offer it next week, it's the princible. This was the last straw for me. I'm fed up with their horrible customer service, unreasonable prices, and outdated scientific atlanta cable boxes. Looking forward to the DirecTV install this Saturday.

My apologies, my post was not about why HBO GO is blocked. I was simply replying to the person who was talking about why Xfinity On Demand access is faster than streaming to Netflix. I agree that it is only greed keeping HBO GO from being accessible for is

Seriously? All these news stories going around and still nothing from comcast as far as updates? I tend to belive what's going on, but I can't belive how much comcast left their customers in the dark during the process.

Some moderately solid news about this debacle being resolved soon from multiple sources it would seem:
To add onto NYTimes and TheVerge:
Engadget and MultiChannel
All articles except multichannel basically site NYTimes as their source though.
So it looks like we'll have resolution to this issue soon...
I can only hope that this will apply to ALL devices. Comcast, if you're listening, don't neglect Roku or Samsung connected devices, even if the voices aren't as loud because of the smaller install base... those customers are equally upset.
And MaxGo too. It's just on the ipad/iphone/android... which you already allow for HBOGO. Please please please allow. XfinityTV is nice... but NOT equivalent.
Fingers crossed that all of these issues are gone by the end of the week.

I just read HBOGO access could be granted this week.
04-05-2012 12:09 PM
Xbox now offers HBO go and as you know has many more movies, programs and shows that On demand, so when I try to set it up Xfinity nor Comcast appear in the provider list, so it doesn't work.
However the app for Xfinity is there and works.

This line from Multichannel caught my attention:
Sources close to Comcast previously indicated that HBO had not agreed to all of the conditions it required of TV Everywhere partners, such as how subscriber information is handled on third-party devices and websites.
Generally that is code for "This 3rd party has pretty bad security practices and we don't feel comfortable handing over subscriber info until you fix your software." If it *was* something like that, then why wouldn't have Comcast said something to that effect. When you make it sound like you are being evil, it makes you look evil. But if there were concerns with the way HBO handles customer data, saying something along those lines would actually make Comcast look good.
04-05-2012 02:24 PM
I've believed all along that this wasn't a one-sided "blocking" type situation, and there were things to work out on both sides of the fence.
Didn't think it would end up being a privacy thing, thought they were being quiet because it was a "who pays how much" (Comcast or HBO) situation. After the months delay for the app launching, I don't mind waiting a week or two more for it to work right.

HBO Go on Xbox was announced back in December.
http://gizmodo.com/5864960/the-new-xbox-360-softwa
And I'm sure the cable companies knew it was happening before then.
If they wanted to get a deal done they've had at least 4+ months to do it, I'm not waiting any longer.

If you're interested in what's really going on with Comcast/Xfinity making the HBOGO app available on xbox, this link should help explain (it's from the NY TIMES ) http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/04/04/hbo-go-is-coming-to-an-xbox-near-you-via-comcast/?p ...
That link, as well as countless similar articles have already been posted. Threads become this long for a reason.

One would think that with all the news and publicity this has been getting we would get some sort of update from Comcast. God forbid they do something for the customers.

Comcast has proven they care nothing for their subscribers. They know that in most markets they will at least have you for Intenret service as normally there is no other cable company available to you. And they will just charge you so much for Internet if you don't have TV through thtem that it makes adding TV only like 20 bucks.
They know that not enough people will switch to Satellite for this very reason. They simply do not care. If they did, we would have more than some forum moderator sitting in his mother's basement telling us that 'talks are in the works. '

They do the sme if you just have TV to. I pay $175 for just TV with two cable cards (you don't get charged for them in the bay area though) and a cable box which I need to return.
When I had comcast internet and phone my total bill was 200. Somehow since moving to comcast business class it krept back up there and now I pay $200 for business class internet and another $175 for TV.
Even with all that money flyinf your why comcast I can't use the xbox xfinity app. Why? Only because I have business class! Your shafting people like who ACTUAL choose to pay you 4,800 a year (I Know I'm not the only who has a home office in 2012).
If I included our companies main office (my home office and regular office both have busisiness class internet from comcast) which has your 100megs/20megs connection at $400 a month! Its insanity that even with $9,600 a year being paid from just one individual you couldn't have sealed this deal before it came out.
Give me what I pay you for before I drop my residential TV for DirecTV. the only thing holding me here is TiVo and when direcTV finaly updates to the Tivo they now offer to the current Tivo Premier interface your gone.

Waiting for the typical "we have nothing to report" response. I put my AT&T switch on hold after the Times article. However, my patience will wear thin if this drags for much longer.

Q: Will watching XFINITY TV directly on my Xbox 360 use data from my XFINITY Internet monthly data usage allowance?
If I’m an Xfinity Internet customer, will watching HBOGO directly on my Xbox 360 use data from my monthly broadband data usage allowance?
nice way to punish us your cap is out dated. hbo go should not count against the cap you know kind of like your XFINITY TV app dont.
04-06-2012 06:38 PM
I know that this is slightly off topic but it still deals with watching HBO Go on TV's...
Will it be available on Roku devices and Samsung Smart TV's, both of which have access to the HBO Go App but it is currently blocked by Comast?
04-06-2012 07:16 PM
04-06-2012 09:08 PM
Anywhere to check how much you used of your cap?
04-06-2012 10:26 PM
Well done folks! It's a shame that it went down the way it did, but kudos to Comcast for doing the right thing.
04-07-2012 12:08 AM
yeah log into comcast.net goto account then goto user and settings. There is a link to bandwidth meter there. I just wish they had a windows 7 gadget that linked to the data usage.
04-07-2012 12:21 AM
Im there but for some reason I dont see a meter
04-07-2012 02:19 AM
first you wanna look for this
Then click view details and you should see last 3 months of usage.
04-07-2012 10:58 AM
Hmm, I don't see a link to any bandwidth meter. Even after searching and clicking on the link it provides, it just takes me back to the user/setting tab/page with no link/info to be found...
04-07-2012 11:09 AM
Then I would take screen shots monthly. If the comcast internet security people ever call you you can have proof there is no way for you to check your usage.

I don't trust comcast's bandwidth monitor as it pushes the last two days of downloads to the next month's usage amount. If your down loading anything on the last day of the month you might as well add that to next month's usage amount. I use a bandwidth monitor to check all my usage from my PC. If comcast claims I use to much I will have defense ready for that. I never had a problem in the past with bandwidth usage using this tracking ability and I don't expect that to change. This gives me a defense and a backup against the comcast monitor. Also, I can see when comcast is playing games with the comcast monitor system. Finally, days like today; when the monitoring system is down, I don't have to wait and wonder about the usage amount.
04-07-2012 03:18 PM
the xfinitytv app does count twords your data cap, and I would add comasts 250gb is higher than most other cable companies.
04-07-2012 03:21 PM
I just looked at my account and the bandwith meter is missing as well. It was there a few days ago when I checked it. Wonder if they took it down for some reason.

If your like me and dont have TV service and use HuLu Netflix MLB.TV GBTV and the various Networks websites to watch shows 250GB is NOT enough by far. I need 500 on average. and thats if i dont purchase any movies from ZUNE or Amazon..
