It wouldn't be so bad if it only happened once a night, but when it happens every 15 minutes(some nights it's constant, some nights it only happens a few times), it gets ridiculous.Nothing like watching a movie, getting to the climax, then having to hit the info button and killing the moment.

Has anybody other than me and the op experienced the blue/purple screen that causes the rng200 to completely dysfunction until you power cycle the box? HDMI output into a Sony Bravia.

I don't get the notice but my cable box will go into a powersave mode if there is no activity for some time. I never turn off my cable box. I just leave it on 24x7.
To defeat the powersave mode I've found if I just do a backspace of 5 minutes on my DVR's live tv buffer before I go to bed that it's still up and has a full buffer when I get up in the AM. (both buffers have data in them at this point). I've done as little as a few seconds. As long as you are not 'live' it seems to work.
I have a Cisco RND200 (memphis comcast).
From 'menu' -> 'menu' -> setup -> cable box setup -> configuration (select to display).

I was getting the purple screen several times a week, but haven't seen one for the past two months. I have added a set of component cables on a seperate input to test whether the purple screen is HDMI only or across all outputs. Luckily, I haven't had a purple screen since to test them.

I have tested with components and it happens only with HDMI. Leave the box on over night and 3 out of the five week days you will wake up to the blueish/ purpleish screen.

i have the same problem in tx. i have to unplug the thing to get anywhere. and comcast "installed" my service and "forgot" to ground their own cable. i called about it, they said they would rush a tech out right away - ... IN 2 1/2 WEEKS!! EYES on the ball comcast! thats probly why ive been through so many electronics (at least 5 dvrs, 3 tvs, 2 xbox360s) and had to buy a 300$ power conditioner. More great comcast service, NOT! this guy said this
"Bothersome problem at least and an insult that the company takes the decision out of my hands. Like the screen saver option- who thinks up these solutions to non-problems anyways?????"
I will answer simply, COMCAST! Always looking out for us right. If comcast was president theyd be IMPEACHED. Some days tv/phone/INTERNET is good but most days its not worth the trouble and certainly not worth the money. However, its better than NOTHING right now AND i have a family that needs service from somebody. But when U-VERSE comes to my area im going for it! kind of like winning the lottery and going to work the next day to tell your jerk of a boss - see ya!
THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED AND FED UP
p.s. THANKS FOR "HANDLING" THE ROOT ISSUE WITHIN 6 MONTHS. (THATS THAT SPEEDY COMCAST SERVICE SIMILIAR TO THEIR INTERNET SPEED)

The same problem used to happen to me, around 1am if the TV is on the TV would ask about standby mode and I would have to press exit to cancel.
After playing with the cable box, I figured out how to get rid of this. It's the "screen saver" mode:
Go to Menu
Go to Screen Saver Setup
Toggle Screen Saver to OFF
This should stop the standby mode.
Let me know if this helped you.

I live in Homestead, fl 33032
Thanks - I will reach out to that Comcast area today and see what the issue could be.

hey any new on this?
I confirmed that there was a correction that needed to be made at the local Comcast headend that services your area. I have not heard if that correction has been made yet. I expect to hear today. Thanks for your patience.

Never mind it started doing it again after 1am EST every 15 minutes
Apologies and thanks for the update. The team is looking at this again. It sounds as though it was corrected (as per your earlier post on March 14) but perhaps a Comcast setting did not stay. They will revisit this issue again.

I've read thru this and the other thread on the RNG200N and its issues... figure I'd throw my hat in with errors as well.
I am also having a problem with my CISCO RNG200. It goes hard lock daily, and requires an unplug cycle.
I've done the following to no avail.
Switched of HDMI-CEC on my Samsung TV while still connected via HDMI, both direct connect and thru Onkyo 608.
Removed my Onkyo 608 (Its on the fritz anyway and can't hold a surrond signal... may be an artifact of earlier problems with hdmi surround mode switching) which was connected via HDMI. Sent in to Onkyo Service Center.
Reverted to an older JVC receiver... Optical Audio Connection Only. HDMI to TV caused Hard Lock overnight. Now connected via Component to Samsung TV, still hard lock in the morning.
About my hard locks:
Gray or Bluescreen, I don't remember which as the wife is usually the one up first and doing the resetting.
After plugging back in, the box registers ---- and boots to the power icon. Goes into APDL after I hit power... then we wait 5-10 minutes for the box to come back up.
I'm on my second RNG200 box, as the last one had major HDMI issues, not authorized errors and sound dropouts. The new one was picked up just before the superbowl after a service tech came and rewired the cable in my house with a new very short run with a single splitter for the cable modem and tv.
2 weeks ago we had the cable modem go out for over a week. Its a customer 6120, but a tech came and got the upstream power level down to 39-40db.
May as well put it all out there, so here are my current readings from my modem. ie, its no longer a signal issue.
|Frequency||651000000 Hz||645000000 Hz||669000000 Hz||687000000 Hz|
|Signal to Noise Ratio||37 dB||37 dB||37 dB||37 dB|
|Power Level |
|3 dBmV||3 dBmV||2 dBmV||3 dBmV|
|Ranging Service ID||1979|
|Symbol Rate||2.560 Msym/sec|
|Power Level||40 dBmV|
|Upstream Modulation|| QPSK|
So I've reverted to Component and still have an issue. I'm highly technical, so I can handle any troubleshoooting. Just received 3 attenuators in the mail as well, 3db, 6db, and 10db. I was going to put them to use in knocking down the power level issues I was having with my cable modem as I've seen suggested in other forums.
When the tech came to remedy my modem problems, he refused to check the RNG200, as in his mind, he'd rectified the problem by testing signal after the splitter.
Any other suggestions ComcastTeds?

Have the same Cisco box as it is compatible with HD and 3D television which is what we have. Got this box around november of 2011 and everything was fine until two weeks ago when it started to go downhill. Exactly at 1:00 A.M every morning and until 6:00 A.M, no matter what channel we have on ( including OnDemand ) every 15 minutes the " Entering Stanby mode. Press any button to cancel" window pops on the screen then switches right away to the Xfinity moving screensaver with the time/hour.
If in fact we press any button to cancel the standby mode, the box switches to a complete different channel than the one we are watching. It happened last night ( March 21 2012 ) while trying to watch the show "Alcatraz" OnDemand and every time we had to go back to channel 1, go to saved programs and re-start the show. This is in incredibly annoying. We are actually up all night because of our work schedule thus this is in fact the time we have to watch T.V and being unable to watch cable NORMALLY, seems to have become a thing of the past. We do have screensaver turn off, yet this issue keeps going on every night.
We are in Miami, Florida by the way. This is in the West Kendall area. Area code 305 or 786

I have in Mississippi and just started with Comcast and am a dealing with this annoying Standby Mode. Called Comcast several times and the representatives have no idea about this problem.
Can anyone tell me how to prevent Standby Mode and keep the DVR from going into power saving mode?

Forgive if this has been mentioned---- I've read most of the posts but not all.
Because I program everything I watch it sometimes happens that I try to record a program in early a.m. Those are very often interrupted or truncated.
Could that be connected to the 'stand-by' mode talked about here? I had one Comcast employee tell me that Comcast did maintenance during those hours and that was the reason.
Confused. I live in Pacific Northwest.

This standby "press any button to continue watching" mode which was removed on the S25 rollout is being brought back in the S26 update for Scientific Atlanta and Cisco set top boxes, as well as Motorola set top boxes later this year. http://forums.comcast.com/t5/XfinityTV-and-Equipme
