Connecting a new HDTV to existing HD box

I have a new HDTV that I want to connect to my existing HD box. I removed the hdmi connector from the current HDTV and plugged it into the new HDTV. But the screen just flashes no signal. The source input is hdmi1. Why no signal?

It is usually safer to power down all equipment than doing "hot" connections on HDMI.  Unplug the DVR / STB and the TV, and start over.
