DVD connection

I am trying to connect an Apex DVD 110cw. There are no connections on the back of the player to connect to the cable box - only red, white & yellow chord to go to the back of the tv. Do I need to go through the cable box, and if so how? Or can I just go through the tv - although the tv doesn't recognize the dvd player.

Re: DVD connection

No need to involve the cable box. Connect those 3 to the TV and select the proper TV input.

Re: DVD connection

Your reply was .......................select the proper TV input.

What is the proper TV input?  I have my DVD player hooked up directly to my TV, but I am unable to get my DVD player to work.  It turns on and when I select play, it sounds like the DVD is running, but nothing is displaying.  Before I installed the cable box, my DVD was working correctly.

Thanks for your help.

Re: DVD connection

By definition, a DVD 'player' doesn't have any inputs (except for a DVD disc).  You should be setting your TV to the input that the cable box is hooked in to it for cable and set it to the A/V input that you are using for your DVD player.  I assume you are using your DVD remote (or the buttons on the front panel) to play your player..

Re: DVD connection

Should my remote be set to Cable?  Aux? or TV?

To be honest, I don't understand what this means:  "set it to the A/V input that you are using for your DVD player"  Presently I have my DVD player hooked directly into my TV set...bypassing the cable box.  I am assuming this is correct.

Thanks again.

Re: DVD connection

Use the TV remote to select the proper input on the tv set that the DVD player is connected to.

For example I have my DVD player running into the Component input on my tv. I use my TV remote to select that input on the tv when I want to use the DVD unit.

If you are trying to use the Comcast remote it would be set to TV. Then it would depend on the tv model on what button on the Comcast remote would select the different inputs available on your tv.

I personally find it simplier to use the TVs original remote to change inputs.

Re: DVD connection

It's hopeless.  I bought a new DVD player today, thinking maybe my other one was broken.  The new DVD player doesn't work either.  I guess I won't be watching any DVD's.  I have tried the DVD players on my other TV's...they have just the digital box (the one I didn't have to pay for), but that didn't work either.  Before I had to change my TV's from analog to digital, my DVD player worked fine.

Thanks for your help.

Re: DVD connection

If you are trying to hook-up a DVD Player to your TV you should not be talking and looking for information here.  You should be looking at the instruction books that came with your DVD Palyer and your TV.  If you can't get it to work using those sources then you should be going to the DVD Player manufacture and your TV manufacture support people.

Re: DVD connection

Your Dvd players are most likely fine, you just don't have them hooked up right. I don't think you understand your TV inputs and how to select them.

Re: DVD connection

All I know is that my DVD player worked  just fine before having to switch to High Definition.  I changed nothing,  From that point on, my DVD player did not work.

Re: DVD connection

I will say it one more time. Your DVD player connected to your TV has nothing to do with Comcast or HD.There are posts here telling you how to get it working.

Try this link and see if any connections have changed from the DVD player to your tv.

Also, could you post the make and model of your tv?

Re: DVD connection

The TV's in question are:  Sony Model:  KV-27FS100L and Sanyo Model: DS31590...Both very old models.  Thank you for the link to the wiring diagram.  I think I see where the problem may be:  My DVD's (Old and new) only have white, red and yellow connectors.  As I said earlier, it seems as though the dvd is running, it's just not displaying on the screen.  Before the HD connection, I would set my TV to either channel 3 or 4, insert the DVD, press play, and the movie would appear on the screen.  Now that does not happen.  Whatever program is playing on channels 3 or 4 continues while the DVD is running.

Thanks for your help.

Re: DVD connection

You will need an RF adaptor. It converts red, white and yellow to the screw type connector, which will come in on Channel 3 or 4. You can get one at Radio Shack, Home Depot ect. Not expensive.

Link is for the Sony manual. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/KV27FS100L.pdf

It does handle the Red/Yellow connections. It must be something to select that input from the tv remote to get the DVDs to show up. Check the manual for more information.

Sanyo also has the correct inputs. To select for the DVD push the VIDEO button on the Sanyo remote to select those inputs to view DVDs.

Looks like the same button is on the Sony TV remote control.

Hope this helps.

Re: DVD connection

Through much trial and error, I got my DVD player to work.  Your suggestion of using my TV remote....not the comcast remote .. was the correct solution.

Thank you for your help and patience.
