Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

[ Edited ]

I can confirm that on Tuesday Stargate Universe on Syfy HD channel 736 recorded the second showing at 8PM instead of the "new" showing at 6PM like it usually does.   The DVR is a Motorola DCH3416.  The whole purpose of having it record at 6pm is to free up the dvr for recording other shows during primetime.  (8pm to 11pm here in northern California).  I looked ahead in the schedule and it shows that it will record at 6pm next Tuesday.  Will keep an eye on it.

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

I have had good success in swaping out the old DVR's for the new latest and greatest versions.

It takes me about a half an hour to swap out two DVRs including driving to and from Comcast and waiting in a short line. And it's all free!

Also, if you want better service use their 'Live Chat' option!

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

I just spent two hours with a technician at my home on at their service center.  There is definitely a programming glitch.  I can see that others have reported this several months to years ago, and Comcast has not fixed it.  I'm really disappointed in comcast.  I just got xfinity rolled out, and the problem is with the programming option on "new episodes only".  The code is pointing to "new and repeat episodes".  It would be an easy fix, why don't they.

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

I see this has been going on for years. Just got the new guide yesterday. Set to record only new episodes, but it recorded ALL. Show Swamp People, all times, Channel 71, box SA8300HD. also did all shows of Deadliest Catch, Channel 44. Been with Comcast from day 1, May get satellite dish now. Very unhappy!

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

Your SA box has been updated to iGuide S25 (SA/Cisco verison of Motorola A25), which doesn't have the history feature that was added to A28 on the Motorola's. Hopefully, Comcast will get the two platforms in sync eventually.

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

They've just rolled out XFINITY in Memphis, and I'm ticked to see that a 2+ year old problem is still happening. I have 2 problems that many posters listed: same programs recording multiple times (L&O UK, Breakout Kings) and that I can no longer ask to record a cable second airing in a different time slot to avoid conflicts (e.g. Breakout Kings re-airs at 10pm CT Sundays, against CSI: Miami and the last minute of DH - a whole 'nother annoying issue).

While I'm ok saying goodbye to the last min of DH, I can see this being an issue on a lot of weekday nites, when I have been used to programming Top Chef, Project Runway, etc. to record the second airing.

My box is an SA 8300 HD.

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

[ Edited ]

This new DVR software is absolutely horrible.  I'm also in Memphis (temporarily) and when the new software I was loaded, I was so disappointed in all the "improvements" that were made.

With the old software, I would record 'Fox Soccer Report' which is shown live as a new episode at 9:00pm every day.  Fox Soccer Channel (219) then repeats the 9:00pm show at 12:00am, 4:00am, 5:00am and 10:00am.  So now, in order to watch one episode, I have 5 on the DVR.  The description even says 'New' on the 9:00pm showing.

Also, I used to be able to record "English Premier League Soccer" and set it to record all new episodes, and it would work great.  I would be able to get all the new episodes on Fox Soccer.  The new software doesn't recognize "EPL Soccer" as a episodic show, so it doesn't even give me the option to record the series.  So now I have to go day by day, hour by hour and set each match to record individually.  Ridiculous!

I can't believe that they can't figure out how to not record multiple episodes of a show, when you select "New Episodes Only."  Back in NJ, we have Dish Network in our house because we were so sick of Comcast.  Dish is OUTSTANDING and will soon be switching in the Memphis apartment if they can't get this fixed by next week (which I highly doubt, since the problem has been around since 2008, apparently)

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

Unless I hit record at the time the show is on and leave it on that channel it will not store the recording. This happens on all channels for all shows. It also does not seem to matter how I set the recording. It does this with the remote, the iOS apps or online scheduleing

Re: DVR Repeat Stickie

The issue seems to be when repeated shows just give a generic overview of the show.

For example pawnstars, just talking about a family own pawn shop etc etc.

And  those get recorded.

  • What show? All
  • What time? All
  • What channel? All

  • Which box are you using? This is important. Is the box a Motorola or Scientific Atlanta? Motorola
  • Is this intermittent? Unknown

This morning when I checked Scheduled Recordings all I saw was "No Listings Available".  I have 90+ series recordings, and by going into each of them and modifying the settings I was able to repopulate the Scheduled Recordings.  Then an hour or so later when I checked again, Scheduled Recordings showed  "No Listings Available". Support reset the box, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

    I suspect a software (78.54) or firmware (22.65) issue.

    Thank you for your support.

Thanks, but it wasn't showing anything for any day.  Modifying the series settings for a show would cause it to show up in the Scheduled Reportings temporarily, but then it would disappear again after a while.

Can someone lock this thread?  It has been over 2 years since this thread was started and nothing has been done to fix the problem with the box recording shows multiple times because the guide data is wrong.  People post on here constantly and nothing gets done, so unless comcast is going to address the issue it is useless to have people still post here.

amass sorry to disagree with you but having this system for over 10 years I can tell you that not every show says weather it is new or a repeat that is why the dvr records shows 10 times when its only set to record new.  the guide data does not always show if its new or not so the dvr records as a failsafe this has been discussed and verified for years.  Ill give you an example I have to go into my dvr recordings weekly and cancel the ones that are going to record because there was no guide data just a general description of the show.  I had to cancel numerous shows last night because of this issue.

It has been mostly fixed, at least for Motorola's with the A28 software. It's that SA people are being moved to S25, which does NOT have the history list that was added in A28. That history lists helps alot, but not much can be done for programs that only have generic descriptions and no New/Repeat flag.

Just pray that Comcast gets S28 out as soon as possible.

Both Oreilly and Beck programs are denoted as "new" or "repeat" in the guide yet it still records every airing.  And, before you ask, yes I have it set up properly to only record new episodes.  That's the best part, they have the setting and it doen't work.

DVR recording issue: Ice Road Truckers. Wanted to record every episode and not just the New Episode only.

    1. Ice Road Truckers as a Series
    2. Sundays at 9 PM
    3. History Channel HD
    4. YES
    5. Cisco/Scientific Atlanta RNG200
    6. No.
    7. No
    8. Had the new guide pushed out to a SA 8300HD. Tried to record IRT as a Series set to record only NEW epsiodes but the software wanted to record every episode. Instead I was forced to set up a Manual Recording configured as a Weekly recording. I traded in the SA 8300HD recently for an RNG200 and same issue as before. This trade was done because my remote failed and figured it was time to trade in the 8300HD

    Thank you.

When I start watching a program that is being recorded, the recording cuts off before the end. For example,
The program begins at 6:00. I start viewing at 6:15, but start at the beginning (of course). At 7:00 it stops recording, but it cuts off where I am viewing (45 minutes into the program), leaving the last 15 minutes of the program unrecorded. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME I MAKE THE MISTAKE OF TRYING TO VIEW A PROGRAM WHILE IT IS BEING RECORDED. WHAT GIVES? This never happened with the old software. The new software is pathetic.

None of the repeats say repeat on the description nor the year. Adventure Time replays come on 2 times a day so I find this very inconvenient. Ironman's new season just started last night and again when I set up to record new shows, it wants to record every show. I had to setup manual recording for both shows which doesn't pickup the show's name nor description of the show.
