Favorites List - Any Ideas?

I just set up COMCAST TV for my 86 year old mom and got her one of the Flipper remote controls.  She is easily confused by things with more than 5 buttons so the standard remote was way over her head.

The idea was to set up a Favorites list of just the programming she would want.  She could then use the Flipper remote to scroll through the channels with out getting lost in the 900+ other channels out there.

However, it seems that the Comcast Favorites only applies to looking at programming on the on-screen menu and once you leave that menu the list no longer applies.  In other words, even though you have a favorites list chosen, when you use the +/- keys to change channels you access not only your favorite channels but all of the channels.

I left mom with favorites list of HD programming with channels 701-790 with a few exceptions in between and found her this morning lost in the 400's.

When you select Favorites on the Dish Network system, you only have access to your favorites list no matter how you change channels. Mom can't go with DISH because the Condo HOA won't allow the dish.

Any idea how to lock out the unwanted channels for my 86 year old mom?

Re: Favorites List - Any Ideas?

I wish. I know what you mean. My mom is 88 and has the same issue with the multi function remotes.

So far Comcast has no way to lock the Favorites or get rid of unwanted channels from the channel up and down search like you can do on the tvs themselves. I would love that feature as would lots of others who have posted on the forums.

If possible just have her use the Comcast remote and tell her to just press the FAV button to go through the channels that are on that list. Not an elegant solution but once the Favorites are programmed whatever channels that in there would be tuned in with FAV. Of course with your mom you would only set up one Favorite list.

Re: Favorites List - Any Ideas?

for some reason the favorites list you set gets deleted when comcast sends things to the box.  I have given up on trying to set it.  easy thing in your situation is to just make a list of whatever channels she gets or get them all :smileyhappy:

Do I understand you correctly - that "favorites" lists can not be "locked" so you can keep them for an extended time?  That appears to be the case, for me.  My "favorites" lists are constantly changing, without me doing anything to them.

Re: Favorites List - Any Ideas?

Hi Everyone,

The only way I know to stay in your favorites list is to continue to hit the "fav" button on the Comcast remote.  It will advance your channel one channel forward each time it is depressed and will keep you within your particular favorites list.  I hope I explained that well enough for everyone to understand!  As you have experienced, the moment you hit the channel button up or down, it takes you out of your favorites list.  The only way to stay in your favorites is to use the "fav" button, and it only works to advance one channel forward, you can't go backwards.  It stinks, but it's the only way I know to stay in your favorites list.  Dish and Directv are much better as you can set your system to stay within your favorites and surf at will from it and your station guide will correspond with any list that you're currently using.
