So it seems like this may be a known issue, but maybe I'm missing something or somebody has a workaround:
I watch a lot of shows that are on multiple HD channels; an example is "The Big Bang Theory", which airs new episodes on the local CBS affiliate, and repeats on the local MyTV affiliate as well as TBS. All three channels have SD and HD variants. I want to record the new and repeats on all the channels, but restrict to the HD channels.
Is this possible? Windows Media Center has the aptly-named "prefer HD" option. Is there any equivalent in the Comcast boxes? I've got a DCX3400, if it matters, but it seems like it's probably a non-specific guide thing.

go to your guide and find BBT on the hd channels and set to new and repeats, do the same for each HD channel it appears on when you set up the series recording go to the options sections and select this channel only, now it will only record on that HD channel new and repeats and now the SD channels. you must do this for each hd channel it appears on, I believe its only on TBS and CBS and the season is over so there are no new shows.

I tried that, or at least intended to. I set up the first channel as 'this channel only', then went to the show on the second channel, but it recognized that it was part of the series recording (even though it didn't match the rules) and only let me edit recording options - not set up a "new" series to record on 'this channel only'. If I just hit save, it's not set to record on the second channel. It seems like I'm accessing the first channel's series recording via the second channel, instead of being able to set it up again.
Am I misunderstanding something? Is the intent to set up multiple series recordings, one per channel? Or is the intent to somehow associate several "this channel only"s with the same series?
Thanks for your help

I was trying to have the same show associated with multiple series recordings. since the show is now on hiatus and is only going to be available on tbs set up your series on tbs hd and you will be caught up in no time they play it 10x a day.

Sure, but that's not really my question. I just used BBT as an example.
How about a show like Mythbusters? Reruns are on SCIHD quite a bit, which I'd like to record so I can catch up, but new episodes (and a much more limited selection of reruns) are on DSCHD. I'd like to get both, in HD. Is this possible?

I believe you can only set up a series on one channel, I in my 10 + years as a comcast customer have never tried to record a series on multiple channels for only hd. I will look into this on my box and let you know what I find.
