Tree on wire

[ Edited ]

There is a dead tree laying on the Comcast or Verizon cable across the street on Old Harford Road, 21234.  It has been there for weeks, probably the result of a storm.  I have not found any way to report such trouble to Verizon or Comcast.

It seems ridiculous to wait for the cable/wires to be broken before removing the dead tree from the cable; but I guess it is still there because it is so difficult to report.   I live a few blocks from that sight, and would expect my services to be interrupted if anyhting happens there.  Thank you

Re: Tree on wire

Have you tired calling the local office?  Go here to find the phone number of the one nearest you, probably the one in White Marsh.  Also, just in case, you might want to alert BGE.

Just an aside. I personally would refrain from posting anything identifying specifically where I live on a public forum.

Re: Tree on wire

Call your local police or fire on their non emergency number. They will contact whomever owns the wire and get it fixed.

Re: Tree on wire

Depending on local policies they may not be able to do anything if the tree is on private property. The property owner may be the one responsible for taking care of the tree.

If it is in the city right of way the city *may* take care of it.

Re: Tree on wire

It's just a zipcode, and a well-populated one.  It's also not in the city, but in an unincorporated part of the county.  Further, no matter where the tree is, the utility pole and lines used by both Verizon and Comcast are owned and maintained by the local utility company, BGE and BGE will and does remove trees that are a danger to the intergrity of the lines.  They are even moredigilant about this after the disaster of the derecho of last summer where lines were down and people without power for more than 5 days in some parts of the city and county.

The number for BGE to report problems is 877-778-2222.

I reported this situation to our Comcast office in MD.  You can report any potential unsafe activity with downed cable wires to 1-800-COMCAST.
