Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

[ Edited ]

If I walk into my local Comcast office I can very easily find a price list that describes all of Comcast's service tiers for cable TV, phone and internet and their prices, all in one small brochure. (It used to be known as a "rate card.") All the details are right there - just the facts. These brochures are displayed everywhere; just pick one up and take it home. All I have to do is go to my local Comcast office...but it's only open when I'm at work (9am to 5pm) and the thought of missing work just to get a price list does not sit well.

Try and find this same price list online and you're only asking for frustration. On Comcast's website the best you can get is "offers and promotions" with vague descriptions, scant details and lots of marketing lingo. Numerous 'chats' end the same way: they're not allowed to give out this information.

Why is it that something so easy to find at a Comcast office is so difficult (possibly impossible) to find online?

I get one of those price lists included in my bill once a year.  This past September's bill had that information, plus channel listings for all packages.  My bill is still available online, so you might try looking at yours.  Go to the "Customers" tab at the top of this page, select the "Manage My Account" dropdown, select "View Bill Details" then select the bill you want to see near the bottom of the Billing Summary.

Thank you...it was in my December 2010 bill. I didn't realize I could view previous months' bills online.

Now why can't Comcast simply put the same information online?

The cynical part of me says the reason is to make it virtually impossible for one person to see how the prices differ in neighboring communities.

It's my guess that Comcast refuses to pay their workers enough to attract people who know how to use of program computers???

So isn't it convenient that they get my services free?  :smileydevil:

The bill does not give the breakdown of the bundled services. I need the itemized bill for tax purposes, and I can't get it anywhere. Verizon Fios gives it's customers a breakdown, why can't Comcast?

Yes, I believe that is very true.  For example, I just got my price sheet yesterday.  There is no charge for cablecards, BUT there is a $8.50 charge for every HD outlet.  So if doesnt matter if you are using their HD cablebox, or your own Tivo... $8.50.  Since the system is all digital, there is no way to watch your package for the package price, without paying at LEAST $8.50 extra, even if you own your Tivo.

I am sure, from reading around, others are charged varying fees for cablecards, but do not have the HD outlet fee.   I think it is all based on your towns franchise agreement.

They are also raising the rental for the Voice/Cablemodem from $5 to $7 here.

You really dont want to see the price sheet.  It will just make you mad :smileyhappy:

AMEN

This is so you can't see how much it cost in areas where they have competition.  FIOS is having an impact.  A big impact.

I got quoted two different prices for the HD service.

Be happy I have to pay $9.25 per month for HD.

FIOS is having an impact on Comcast.  Where Comcast has competition the prices are much lower.

Yea, I was not aware, and they did not tell me, that it was PER OUTLET.  I will probably go back to DirecTv after my promo expires.  I was just trying to save some money for a year, and get a few extra HD channels, but once the promo expires, there is no way I can justify the monthly price.

You are so right on target.  I've been digging for 30 minutes and not found it.  Earlier "solutions" of finding it in a bill are not helpful to me as I generally dump all the advertising in the bill figuring the same info should be on the website.  WRONG!  Now I get to sit on hold for 30 minutes just to get a simple pricing answer.

You can try looking at your previous bills online.  Not every month, but every few months the bill online does show the pricing Information.  Keep swcrolling down on your bill.  It might not show on your most recent bill, but you could look at bills as far back as 12 months ago online.  I know this isn't the answer you want- But thought I would throw it out there as an option.

HOW TO GET A COPY OF YOUR PAPER BILL

Log in to Customer Central using one of the steps listed in the post above.

When Customer Central opens, you will see a brief summary of your bill.

You will also see View bill details, click that link OR click the Account & Bill tab

When the billing summary opens, scroll down the page.

On the left side look for Bill Details and History.

Using the drop-down arrow choose the bill you wish to view.

Click View Bill Details for a copy of your paper bill in .pdf format.

You can choose whether to open or save it.

You can also print the bill.

*This method will show only the past 12 bills.

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

Thanks CCCarol.  I gave up online and spent 10 minutes on hold to talk to a friendly customer service rep. who gave me the info I was seeking.  I was hoping to avoid the long wait on hold by searching online.  I have the answer I needed, but am still frustrated that it is not readily available online.  (I was looking for the cost of adding a set-top digital box - pretty simple).

I totally understand your frustration.  The only other thing you can do is to maybe post your zipcode when you post in the Forum with the thought being maybe someone in your area sees the post & can answer the question for you. Since pricing does vary by different regions, etc.

What you can do tho, is go to the Comcast homepage, scroll all the way down the page.  You will see a feedback link. Click on it.  There you can post ideas, questions, feedback, problems...:smileywink:

I'm online looking for rate cards, too!  My bill keeps creeping up and I want to see what I can cut out and how much (if any) it will save me.  I think you're spot on - THEY don't want customers to see what other communities have or how we can fine tune our bills.

Rate cards are in your statement about once a year, and only available from your local office.  You will not find them online.

This is a community forum, no one here knows why Comcast does what they do.

Each market does thing differently.

Looking on your bill only shows you what you are paying for your current level of subscription.

I want to see the available service option and their pricing, but Comcast tells me I can only get that by coming in to their offices.

Why is this not available online?

This is a community self help forum, all of Comcasts cable companies do their own thing with direction from the parent (as I understand it).  Maybe you could start a "chat" with Comcast service and they could pass on your displeasure?  There is also a rumor that Comcast doesn't know how to work the cup holder on their PCs..

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

I was just looking for the same thing, couldn't find it. I want to upgrade some of my services but I'll be darned if I'm getting on the phone with those people. To bad I can't look at it from the comfort of my own home with no pressure of going to their office or having to be on the phone, then just order what I want online.

They evidently have some reason for forcing you to talk to a person in order to get service. This is just one of a few problems for me and may be what sends me elsewhere. It's ashamed too, I'm satisfied with their basic physical services.

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

I also have been all over comcasts sites looking for a rate card.   Can not find it.  I called a few numbers and was only able to get one mailed to me by calling the billing department.  They are suppose to mail me one today.

They stated it was available on line at comcast sites but could not direct me to it.  They also could not email it to me.  This is ridiculous to be part of a technology company that makes it so difficult to check pricing information on all their services.  I beleive I will complain to my city cable reps so they are aware of this problem.

They are not available online, they are included in your monthly statement about once a year, or available at your local Comcast office.  The rate cards are very localized, the next town or county could have different prices and packages than you do.

Try asking them to mail you one. They did that for me a couple of years ago when I asked for one.

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

LOL This is quite True, I am looking for this information as I noticed my bill is almost $200 a month now and I remember when I wanted more channels but was not willing to pay over $120 (Total not before taxes etc.) Now for the same Service (No Premium Channels, NO PPV) is ridiculous yet I can't find the price breakdown either and want to know why I am getting charged $20 for the outlets that should be included in the main fee since without the outlets I couldn't view anything.

Its nice when you can be charged for cable service then on top of that pay another fee for the ability to use the service they already charged you once for.

I have all my previous bills yet I cannot find the breakdown of prices per service that is supposedly included in with the bill.

Got mine.  Called the billing dept to get it.  the local billing dept, stay away from the 1-800 numbers they are no help.  Took them about 10 days to get it to me.  Good luck.

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

Spudler, the bottom line her is that Comcast is shady and they make a lot of their money by ripping off their customers. A mod may stop in here and try to give an explanation to why they do what they do but, they just can't cover up the fact Comcast is what they are.

They don't make that price list readily available because as long as they keep the written/provable stuff hidden they can take you to the cleaners. If you call them, they will feed you another line of BS, but that doesn't hurt them because it cannot be proven because they know you cannot record the phone call. Comcast relies on the fact that many won't bother trying to get their bill straight and if you do, they will put you through so much hassle, many will give up. This is all set up by design. This it the way Comcast does business.

As I've mentioned here before, Comcast is a master of Confusion.

Personally, once they started their junks with me, I started dropping services, I intend to drop more and eventually, since they finally have it in my neighborhood, drop everything and go with DSL, direct TV or dish. I just want the service I was promised, at the price I was promised, no tricks so I don't have to constantly keep an eye on the comapany I should be able to trust because they are trying to rob me.

There was a time when a Company was glad to have customers and to show their appreciation for that customer, they treated their customers well and fair. That is a thing of the past for Comcast and the only way to straighten CC out is to hit them in the wallet. Loss of revenue is all they understand.

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

This must be a tactic of theirs.  I, too, need an ITEMIZED bill for the bundle, for taxes, and for reimbursement of the internet portion by my company.  I've called three times over the past month and a half.  Still nothing.  I'm going to start calling everyday until they send me what I need.  They charge ridiculous fees for a mediocre (at best) service, and can't even give you an itemized bill.  Unbelievable.

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

When I first signed on with Comcast, I paid the set up fee in cash and got a receipt. Caomcast still added that charge to my bill and shortly afterwards, it showed as "previous balance" something I was never able to access. I went back and forth with them until I finally called and got just what I expected, denial, the run around,  lies/deceit, try to confuse the customer and sock it to them.(me.

I then asked for an itemized bill so I could study it (instead of depending on Comcast customer service to confuse things, lie to me and attempt to steal my money without allowing me to see if I owed it or not.)

As soon as I mentioned them mailing me an itemized bill, the CS rep immediately said that I was right and they would get my money back to me. From the way she reacted to my request for the itemized bill, I am sure they do not want the customer to have that. These people are as shady as a Summer day is long, and they don't want to give you anything in writing where you can prove anything. This is one reason they refuse, in many cases, to handle problems by email, they want you to call so they can try to scam you on the phone where nothing can be proven.

Re: Why In God's Name Is a Simple Price List So Difficult to Get?

I passed on Comcast a few years ago because after 5 calls, I couldn't get a list of what channels for what money. I went with a satellite company and they used to have great service but now they are playing games, so I'm thinking of going to Comcast.

I have called twice and both times got different information on pricing. Is there anywhere online a non-customer can get a price list?

Thanks,Earl
