I currently have my remote setup to work with my cable box and TV (obviously) as well as my surround sound system. I use my surround sound for all of my sound. My TV is set to "external speaker" mode which turns off the TV speakers but leaves the speaker output active. Unfortunately, it is a nuisance to have to switch modes on my remote every time I want to change the volume. Is there a way to lock the volume control so that it controls my surround sound in all modes? Similar to how the volume control locks to the TV by default.

See the remote manual section on Volume Lock. Remote manuals are here: http://customer.comcast.com/Pages/HelpNFC.aspx?pri

I have tried the settings in the remote manual 10 times and the only time the voume buttons control my a/v receiver is when I have the AUX button selected. Am I doing something wrong? I select the AUX button, hold Setup until it flashes twice, then enter 9-9-3 voume - and it blinks 4 times indicating it worked correctly per the guide.

That sequence UNLOCKS volume control. You want to LOCK volume control to the AUX device.
To do that, press AUX, hold Setup until AUX flashes twice, enter 9-9-3, then press AUX again. You should get a 2 flash response, and Volume and Mute should now operate the AUX device even if the remote is in CABLE or TV mode.
This should work for the silver or platinum remotes with a red OK/Select button. It might work for the silver remote with a grey OK/Select button. Please let us know.

Thank you BruceW, that did the trick. I guess I mis-understood the manual/guide.
Oh, this is for the silver remote with the red OK button in case anyone else has the same issue.

Thanks for the directions Bruce, I just used them to lock the volume back to my tv after it was unlocked... I didn't see the process in the programming guide.

worked great, thx.
would be helpful if the manual gave directions to lock the volume to a device, vs just how to unlock.

DUDE! YOU ROCK!
It would help if they would explain that just a touch better in the manual. Thanks for the help!

I spent 30 minutes with a chat specialists but I don't think he had a clue what I was trying to accomplish so I got fed up.
My XR2 remote once powered my cable box and tv just fine. I then went through the correct steps to add my surround sound receiver. That worked too - once. NOW the only thing my remote will power on or off is the TV! I have to manually go turn off the cable box and the receiver. It just doesn't make any sense. How can I reset my remote to the original settings? I'd rather leave the receiver off if it means my remote will turn my cable box and tv on and off again! Very frustrating as I can't get an answer - ANYWHERE - to this problem.
