eSATA Drive

Comcast says the Magnavox RGN200N will work with an external eSATA hard drive.  The hard drive makers say to check w/the cable operator to see if the drive will work.  Comcast says they don't support external hard drives.  Since the junk Comcast says they support doesn't work well, I'm reluctant to spend $100 for an external drive.  Anyone have any experience with them?

Re: eSATA Drive

There is no such thing as a Magnavox RNG200, Magnavox got out of the cable box business in the 80's.

A Motorola RNG200 which is actually a DCX3501 will start enabling the esata port late this year by Comcast.

The Cisco RNG200's have had the esata port enabled all along by Comcast.

Re: eSATA Drive

Curiouser and Curiouser!  So the box I have w/an “M” and RNG200N logo
does not exist?  And the port that Comcast
says does work, doesn’t work?  One might
think Comcast might have mentioned that when I asked rather than saying they
don’t support external drives.

Re: eSATA Drive

The M is Motorola's logo, Motorola DVR's are rumored to get the esata port enabled late this year.

Re: eSATA Drive

In a logical world Comcast would know that....but of course in a logical world Comcast would not exist.  Thanks.

Re: eSATA Drive

As a general update, we have recently rolled out this new functionality in parts of indiana for most all of our Motorola branded DVRs. Details at the link below:

http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/cable-tv/external-dvr-storage/

A new guide release is required before this new functionality can be activated so be sure and check the availability link at the website above before purchasing the WD external hard drive.

We are deploying this guide update (and this new functionality) to new locations regularly with the goal of 100% deployment in early 2013. Thanks for your patience.
